Might be all the stress in the world at the moment but it’s made me think about what I’d give for a couple of doves and the clammy hands that come with them. Don’t think my heart could take it now Sad

@KarenCaron

No it wasn't. It was just a night like many others. Which has always made me think that it can, and does, happen anywhere at any time

Fair enough. I hope not to experience a night like that then! My nights out are generally not as eventful.

No I bet, and thankfully mine haven't been since either once I did feel OK to go out again.

With you OP - as soon as I read your post, I smiled and thought - those were good days, happy memories Grin

The posters who have posted on here to gloat about never taking drugs and preach about death and destruction are just blindly parroting the party 'Drugs are baaaadd' line, or thinking about the poor heroin addicts they see shivering in the town centre. This is not what party drugs and psychedelics (E, MDMA, LSD etc.) are about. They give a sense of connectedness, of love, of increased social bonds. They are not addictive, nor are they a gateway drug to other drugs. MDMA is being used in the treatment of soldiers with PTSD that was previously classed as untreatable. It has been used to help people with Aspergers cope socially. Psycobilin from magic mushrooms is used for the treatment of severe clinical depression. These are useful, wonderful substances and they should be available, safely, for all people to use if they so choose. Making drugs legal will remove a huge source of funding from criminal gangs.

Alcohol is 1000x more dangerous. I never saw a punch up at a rave, but have seen plenty in normal clubs and bars.

pepsicolagirl · 05/10/2020 15:37

I sometimes think how clean my house would be if I could get my hands on a few lines of speed...

Sleepingdogs12 · 05/10/2020 15:56

Alcohol is more dangerous than some drugs but it is legal and doesn't exploit people (including children) or rely on criminal gangs to supply it. If you want to change this campaign for a change in the law so that you can enjoy them without bringing misery to other people's doors and lives.

Lollypop4 · 05/10/2020 16:02

I am so naieve , always have been, I thought you were going to say you missed a Tv show/ character... , by the name of ,"E".
😂😂
Ive never done drugs or smoked, Ive just no interest, I am incredibly naieve to it all tbh, If you all walked in here high now , Id likely believe you were all drunk tbh.

Oh god LSD

That is some silly stuff right there.
I've only done it twice
The first time, me and two mates convinced ourselves the bridge over the river was not going to hold our weight (totally missing the point it was Victorian and metal so had stood quite happily for quite some time). We had found an abandoned long board skateboard so decided we all needed to sit on it and wheel across. We were only going across because Kwik Save was on the other side and opened later than others and we convinced ourselves we had no cigarettes (we all had them and found it hilarious later on when we found them and realised we didn't actually need to go on a mission anyway).
The next time was a dare, I remember finding an armchair in my living room tremendously funny for no reason.

Until the 70s I’m pretty sure that’s how most housewives in America got through the day:

www.smithsonianmag.com/history/speedy-history-americas-addiction-amphetamine-180966989/

I don’t think it ever took off here in the same way.

I took speed a couple of times but was warier if it than other drugs because of learning about amphetamine psychosis, and having a cousin who was later diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic but who I suspect was a heavy amphetamine user in his teens. I know you’d have to be seriously caning it to end up suffering to that extent but it was enough to put me off.

3 students lost their lives this weekend taking illegal substances but you all ‘crack’ on reminiscing.Angry

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 05/10/2020 16:37

What do you think the answer is @Benjispruce2? Because whatever the current system is isn’t working.

Benjispruce2 · 05/10/2020 16:40

I definitely don’t think glorifying drug taking helps anyone.

Which is another reason why they should be legalised and heavily controlled. Drugs now (and no doubt back when I did them) are cut with all manner of stuff. They've not been pure for quite some time. If they were regulated they could earn tax from them and regulate what is in them. Like with counterfeit fags, they aren't always what they say they are.
Benjispruce2 · 05/10/2020 16:42

That’s not what this thread has been about though.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 05/10/2020 16:43

To be fair, a thread on somewhere like Mumsnet is probably making drugs less cool, not more.
Lonelycrab · 05/10/2020 16:43

@Benjispruce2 yes it’s tragic. Given that the only real way this could be avoided would be some form of legalisation and quality control, do you think just carrying on with the ‘war on drugs’ will stop this happening again? It hasn’t worked has it.

What do you see as the answer? Genuinely interested.

Benjispruce2 · 05/10/2020 16:45

I don’t profess to know the answer. I find this thread deeply insensitive and irresponsible.

Lonelycrab · 05/10/2020 16:51

But I take it you’re against any form of legalisation or controls, no?

Don’t you see that by refusing to actually engage with the issues, and wishing the whole problem would just “go away” gets everyone nowhere, the criminals rich and our kids dying from tainted drugs.

wink1970 · 05/10/2020 16:57

Count me in! I often tell the kids the stories from way back when....

I lives between the north & south at the height of it all so roll call:

The Quad (Quadrant Park)
Back To Basics
Bagleys
The Cross
MOS

... like PP I would love to go back but Gin gives me palpitations nowadays. I was actually surprised to make it to 50 recently given my 90's consumptions.....

Benjispruce2 · 05/10/2020 16:58

Start a thread about that then, not about missing taking drugs, glorifying them and justifying your behaviour.

Quietlyloud · 05/10/2020 17:09

KenDodd Thats is sad. I hope he got his life back on track but I wouldn’t be surprised if simply being in prison would have him come out worse.

FrancoBranco · 05/10/2020 17:12

That's great insight and some wonderful suggestions @Benjispruce2 thanks for stopping by to tell us all we can't talk about our actual, lived experiences. Hmm

Is there a political party that supports decriminalisation? The more I think about it the angrier I get that young people are consuming toxic poison for a high, when this could be easily avoided with quality control and legislation.

To miss E?
DioneTheDiabolist · 05/10/2020 17:15

The answer is Legistlation or, failing that a proper grown up conversation about drugs and a testing kit. The answer is not a pathetic attempt to scold and silence others for talking about their experiences.

Quietlyloud · 05/10/2020 17:19

Benjispruce2 I really hope you never have a drink or ever reminisce about being drunk and silly or having fun because I’d many have died from drink. So you can take your faux concern and shove it.

Quietlyloud · 05/10/2020 17:21

Benjispruce2 Why don’t you start a thread like that then? You can’t come into a thread about remembering the past and then get huffy because it’s not all doom and gloom like you want it based on only your views. Grow up a bit.

ferntwist · 05/10/2020 17:22

Double dropping Mitsubishis in the early hours and walking up Oxford Street off my face mid-morning with a gorgeous but irresponsible boyfriend. Fun times. Thanks for the reminder.
