Might be all the stress in the world at the moment but it’s made me think about what I’d give for a couple of doves and the clammy hands that come with them. Don’t think my heart could take it now Sad

I was actually thinking this kaut the other day, I always enjoyed drugs way more than alcohol and E was just so lovely. In small amounts and infrequently, however. Not dropping 5+ pills in one night several nights a week, like some of my friends and relatives!

I even liked the come down, it always felt warm and mellow to me, never felt rubbish.

Mushrooms were also good, small amounts feel a bit like an E but less chemical.

Of course, these days I'm a responsible professional with children, so none of that now. Kind of hoping to sneak some misbehaviour into my 50s though when the DCs have all grown and left home!

Emeraldshamrock · 30/09/2020 15:13

Ir was most likely PMA
Wow that was interesting I had no idea.
Users should definitely invest in a pill testing kit.
Another reason why legalising would make it safer.

westr · 30/09/2020 15:15

Inspired by this thread I just went for a run listening to old school cream playlists

garlictwist · 30/09/2020 15:17

I sometimes feel like this Grin. I had some fantastic times on drugs in my younger years. If I see something on a film or in a novel about clubbing or E, I feel a real sense of nostalgia for it. However, then I remember the awful bits - the wasted next day, coming out of the club when it was light to birdsong, for example and I go right off it again.

EternalOptimist7 · 30/09/2020 15:18

I just miss dancing - no drugs needed, alcohol aside. The natural high is enough for me.

Whatsgoingon77 · 30/09/2020 15:36

@garlictwist Coming out of the club to birdsong when it was light was one of the good bits! 💓

I enjoyed watching the series on Netflix recently set in Ibiza and Manchester, some tunes that sent shivers down my spine.

Oldskool weed varieties are hard to find now.

There are literally so many types, as any trip to Holland will show you.

Indica =mellower Sativa= more of a head high.

I had a brutal attack of shingles in Lockdown, the pain was ;ike being stung by 100 wasps, over sunburn with a deep gnawing ache underneath.

Nothing touched the pain. Not codeine or ibuprofen

A very kind London person sent me some to eat ..{Indica} It was a huge relief. An absolute blessing.

However, eating can be dodgy of you ingest too much.

A lad I know of also takes it for chemotherapy nausea.
It has it's place, but if someone has a tendency to paranoia, it can make it much worse.

Speed! You could clean the house from top to bottom in 2 hours.

Sooooooo true!

Boring repetitive tasks were such fun. ''Let's clean all the windows''
Inside and out. With a Q tip.

“Whatnext2018: yes I was a Hacienda regular but a bit older than you. I went to uni in Leeds from 92 to 95 so was also a Back to Basics girl and Vague if anyone remembers that place.“

Oh yes! Vague was the BEST club night, ever! TWA Grin

Just popped back for a browse on this thread.

Glad to see that it has got back on track and that the miseryguts who "reported" you all to the nightwatch didn't get their way Grin

Oh yes...I'm glad too.

It isn't ''Glamourising' drug use ..Rather the opposite, being practical and realistic. {Legalisation/Drug testing kits}

Probably the bosom hoiker who snapped ''REPORTED'' was looking forward to ''Wine O' Clock''.

What is so bizarre..Humasnd have cannabinoid receptors in their brains...and opiate receptors in brain, spinal cord and lungs...
It is as if humans have evolved alongside these plant based drugs.

Romans used them...Greeks and Aztecs did..Heck, there is even an hallucinogenic honey that makes people trip out {doesn't look very pleasant though}

Drugs will be with us til the end of time. Education in sensible use is the best way,...Scare stories don't deter the curious.

Mumsnet mods are no fools. They know this thread is not ''Glorifying'' drug use...most of us are reminiscing an era long gone, not advocating buying some random pill and swallowing it.

Hallucinogenic honey :

Posted before I'd read the whole thread. A few people mentioned head massages, that was my thing! That and we used to do back massages all sitting topless in a row.

Unlike most of the PPs, most of my E taking was at house parties/in small groups of friends rather than clubbing as we lived really far from any. It was just a cheap and fun way of livening up life in a small village at the weekends. I was never a big drinker, didn't like being drunk (still don't really, I like tipsy but not drunk).

DH and I did have some a few years ago when we went to an outdoor gig, it was lovely but only did it as we had no DCs for the weekend so had time to recover.

Still smoke the odd joint, but not skunk as I can't stand it, way too heavy. Nice Thai weed however, all good.

My brother microdoses mushrooms for depression, apparently that's really helpful.

LetsBeSensible · 30/09/2020 17:27

Well when we are old, we will be lucky if care homes exist.
But if they do, I don’t want some west life knockoff coming to sing to us on a Tuesday afternoon.
I want one of these kids who are obsessed with the 90s turning up dressed in a tracksuit doing big fish little fish blasting sister bliss at us!

I was at uni in the 90's, never tried anything more than an odd spliff, somewhat regret it now. Drank like a pissed fish though. Still do, at the odd party.

As @LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard says, now the kids are growing up, I'm hoping to sneak some misbehaviour into my 50's once the DC's are grown up and gone - and I'll bet I'm not the only one. Already the biggest growth in STI's and alcoholism is in the Boomer generation, sounds like they're having fun!

Also I don't care much for what the pearl clutchers say - puritanism and moral outrage is just another form of wanting to exert control over others. The voters run this country, not the puritanical brigade. And the police follow the law, they don't get to make it.

There's a lot of highly qualified professionals in responsible positions out there that look back on their 90's days and think what one-sided bullshit they were fed. I sincerely hope that times change - maybe the older generation will want to be legalising drugs, and the younger generation doing the pearl clutching!

Or Goldie Lookin' Chain... Their song from years back warning about a bad type of hash is bloody funny.

Love this thread!!! The 90s were the absolute best time for clubs, drugs and music. I miss that time so much. I was 16 in 1990 when I had my first tablet, and it was a fantastic era in which to be young.
To the PPs who mentioned Vague and Back to Basics in Leeds, I loved them and went frequently when I stayed with my friend. I had another close friend who lived in London and we'd go to the Boys Own nights, Flying, Pure Sexy, Kinky Disco, can't even remember the names of most nights. We'd go to Manchester sometimes for the Hacienda, but mostly Liverpool for the Underground, G Love at the Mardi, The State, Macmillan's, the 051, Rio's, the Baa Bar... Sometimes I just wish I had a time turner and could experience that feeling one more time. Not just the physical effects of tablets but also that feeling of excitement and being carefree. And I'd also give anything to be that skinny, size 8 girl, in hotpants and bra tops, now that I'm a chubby, boring responsible middle aged mum!!

oakleaffy · 30/09/2020 18:06

Been listening to this while reading people's experiences ..

carreterra · 30/09/2020 18:32

I agree with Woundedadmiral, did Leah Betts and other youngsters die for nothing?

AliceAbsolum · 30/09/2020 18:46

Oo yeah. My best drug experiences were Full Moon parties in Thailand. The waves, warm sand, coloured lights, free people with glow in the dark paint everywhere, all the shroom pictures and psych music AHHHHH. Fuck.

AliceAbsolum · 30/09/2020 18:49

This is my memory. Just. Awesome. But. Wouldn't do it now.

To miss E?
oakleaffy · 30/09/2020 18:56

@carreterra

Leah died of water toxicity.

Her inquest showed this. She consumed 7 litres of water in less than an hour and a half...
That is almost two gallons.
Completely tragic.

It was though a side effect of her taking the E..Had she not taken it, she'd probably not have tried to force water down.

Sadly these from events don't put people off. If they did, scare tactics would work, and they don't.

Leah and every other young person who dies from drink or drugs is a tragedy. 🙏

No easy answers, but harm minimisation seems to be {currently} the best way.

Countries that have a legal approach have less domestic drug users.
Amsterdam is full of tourists. Dutch people work in the coffeeshops &c, but the tourists are from Countries with more draconian drug laws.

vintageyoda · 30/09/2020 18:57

Oh my! The Blue Note, C. 1997 - mashed to bits, loving the whole world! Shiny happy people in rural raves and never any trouble. Happy days!

Tadpolesandfroglets · 30/09/2020 19:42

@ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN sadly, he's not young. he's mid 50s and it's due to long term, habitual use. I was never really in to weed but do remember full moon parties in Goa, nights at Hacienda and Cream, but loved a Wigan Pier night.
