Might be all the stress in the world at the moment but it’s made me think about what I’d give for a couple of doves and the clammy hands that come with them. Don’t think my heart could take it now Sad

@Marylou2

My partying days in Manchester in the late 80s early 90s we're severely curtailed/made much safer by working as a nurse. Will never forget seeing people lose limbs by compromising their blood supply while injecting drugs. Sex workers with severe infections who left hospital straight for the street corner to get money for drugs. Working on an 18 year old in cardiac arrest after taking E. Not a happy outcome.
Nothing is without risk. I can never understand why smoking and alcohol are perfectly legal, but other, could be argued safer, drugs are illegal. It's arbitrary.
DioneTheDiabolist · 29/09/2020 17:40

I think we should focus more on educating people about natural highs (sports, etc) good mental health strategies from a young age, some structured resources for travelling, camping, exploring nature, at home and abroad and responsible attitudes- all sounds boring u til you do it and realise that it’s not.

Many people do/did these things as well as taking legal and illegal substances. I went camping once, I will never do that again.😖

BatonRouge · 29/09/2020 17:46

I do feel immensely privileged to of been part of the rave scene back in the late 90’s. The people and places I’ve connected with over the yrs, all formed through a connection with dance music. This is an element of nostalgia talking but in the last 5 yrs I’ve found the ‘rave’ again and its been such a positive. The thread has a lot of hyperbole and hypocritical comments. As its been said alcohol has so much to answer for.

Have to agree that sitting in a tent does not compare with loving your tits off

There is another side to it all though - that I don't think some people are really acknowledging. It is gang related and causing huge problems (county lines?) in areas and I do not think it is a benign effect just because those on here who took it had a great time.

My point is that the great time some people had doesn't equal out the bad effects on others.

CroutonCrab · 29/09/2020 18:29

I don’t think the thread had the intention of suggesting we create an almost geriatric mumsnet rave (unless there’s enough demand Wink) where we all buy bucket fills of pills. Just reminiscing about fun, gurney times

To be fair, I think various posters have acknowledged the supply chain as a problem. Certainly no-one's said it isn't an issue.

However the question people have raised about whether it's uniquely bad are valid ones (Primark t-shirt anyone?: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Dhaka_garment_factory_collapse)

Also, so many of the shitnesses, including the supply chain, could be moderated if not eliminated by legalisation. Controlling the supply of those drugs that are (relatively speaking) safe would not lead to everyone being ripped off their tits/dying of septicemia from Crack/Cake/Krokodil/PCP within six months.

The thread has descended into a childish boast to.see who took the most drugs and when.

No it hasn't. It's gained the attention of boring people though.
Lonelycrab · 29/09/2020 19:32

@KaptainKaveman I don’t see it that way.

Some people reminiscing and being honest about the fun they had.

Some people disgusted but with no real answers or thinking in general.

And some talking about the merits of decriminalisation re overall harm.

Kazakaren · 29/09/2020 19:33

Yep

KaptainKaveman · 29/09/2020 19:44

If it is ' boring' to link drug use to the drug trade, with its legacy of murder and destruction of lives, then I'm happy to be considered so.
This thread is honestly pathetic; like a bunch of adolescent fools attempting to outboard each other.

MiniMum97 · 29/09/2020 19:48

I really miss my raving days and taking pills. It was life changing for me in a good way. Before raving, I would never have danced in public and was very self conscious generally. I loved the feeling of being part of a tribe that you get at a rave where everyone is dancing in time to the same thing totally absorbed. Amazing times. Best times of my life. Wish I'd done more of it! Too old and chronically ill now to partake but I miss it.(my ill health is not related to my raving days before anyone chips in with that!!).

You don't have to read it then do you. Go and do something more interesting (to you). Go camping or do a bit of yoga. Have some green tea. Channel your inner peace.

I don’t think many (any?!) posters have talked about the amount of drugs they took Hmm

Userzzz · 29/09/2020 19:55

OP, I have been very depressed working from home. I have started watching rave videos on YouTube and it picks up my mood. Then I get depressed that I’m old now and even if I wanted to do it, I couldn’t take the risk, having my kids now and all that..

sassypants72 · 29/09/2020 19:56

Oh yes I remember those days so well. There used to be big raves at the Sanctuary in MK. Don't think you've lived until your experiences the waltzers speeding your tots off Grin

sociallydistained · 29/09/2020 19:59

100% agree!

Yes that's exactly it! That togetherness and empathy and feeling of acceptance. If you by others and others by you. Love and hugs all! 😍

I know me too! Love watching them and then it makes me sad that I no longer have that in my life or at the weekend to look forward to. Mixed emotions!!

Literally nobody has done that. If you've ever been on the dance music/ MDMA scene you'd know it's absolutely a competition to see who can consume the most. It's nothing like drinking in that way.

It's the opposite of binge drinking culture in fact.

MrDarcysMa · 29/09/2020 20:14

Absolutely *NOT a competition that was meant to say!
