Quite fancied a pair of the tiny ankle uggs this winter, my 17 year old sister tells me they are so 2012!!😂
Opinions?

I love all of my uggs and they are supportive but they can get REALLY hot, you can’t get them wet and you can’t get them dirty (they won’t wash !).

To be honest, since I brought a pair of Dublin Country boots (cheap version of Durbery) which are still very comfy but with gel not wool, so they stay cool, I hardly ever wear my uggs now.

Plus, lots of sploshy, muddy carefree walks !

WiggleSquiggle · 27/09/2020 23:54

@ImSleepingBeauty

Not a good look.
No real uggs do that, I’ve had lots of pairs and they’re all pretty perfect still.

I don’t like the original ones, however the more ‘boot’ looking ones are much nicer.
I have a lovely pair of timberlands (not like the chavvy shoe boots you instantly think of) and they’re brilliant quality, a similar price and fully waterproof.

Before I read about your sister’s comment and just saw the title of your thread, I was going to say... yes, about 10 years ago! Grin

They're hideous. But very comfy. And in Australia, still extremely popular, although I wouldn't say fashionable!

Userzzz · 28/09/2020 02:35

Best for home slippers. For outside, Ugg Adirondack are the best.

echt · 28/09/2020 03:35

It's been a mild winter in Melbourne, so only worn the Uggs boots twice, cheapo sheepskin slip-ons have seen me out.

Having said that, Uggs are only for indoors, and collecting the newspaper from the nature strip - with a mask on. A dressing gown is entirely acceptable while performing this.

HoldMyLobster · 28/09/2020 03:45

I’ve got the Llbean version - they must be at least 12 years old. Not lost their shape.

I live in Maine in a fairly drafty house and I wfh so I adore them.

They’re good for after skiing too, and whenever the snow is at that dry fluffy stage and it’s -20 out.

oreshina · 28/09/2020 04:32

Nay

They're slippers. You don't wear them out the house.
And yet there they were on the feet of Air force pilots in the war, surfers on beaches in the 80s etc

Clearly nobody told them they were wearing slippers the fools* 😂

Cool story. They're still slippers.

eaglejulesk · 28/09/2020 05:13

I wear mine as slippers - haven't owned actual slippers for decades - but they are at least 18 years old and still going strong. I do wear them outside if it's very cold. I live down-under however, so may be more popular here.

eaglejulesk · 28/09/2020 05:20

They were designed to be very expensive indoor shoes. Not to be worn outside

And you know this how?

Ginfilledcats · 28/09/2020 05:44

I love my classic tan ones. But I would NEVER wear them outside the hone as they are so out of fashion lol. However they are brilliant to wear around my home with lots of cold stone floors!

Oysterbabe · 28/09/2020 06:53

I have some. The height of fashion they are not, but I quite like them just for every day wear.

Ugg boots yay or nay?
XiCi · 28/09/2020 07:00

I dont like the longer ugg but I like the mini boots and may get a pair of these Melrose for winter. Am also coveting these ugg biker boots.

They look very well worn oysterbabe Grin

kitschplease · 28/09/2020 07:03

I wear them as slippers. That would be a stupid price to pay for slippers - these are my 4 year old well worn pair that I stuck in the washing machine. I will probably wear them out when it gets properly cold as they are so warm and I won't care what anyone thinks then.

Bluesheep8 · 28/09/2020 07:04

I prefer emus. But the very best I've had are the Costco ones

XiCi · 28/09/2020 07:05

Surely you buy the actual ugg slippers to wear as slippers. Clue in the name.

LolaSmiles · 28/09/2020 07:06

I love mine. They're not Uggs, but are a Rocket dog type version in a similar style. They're great for local errands and having warm feet.

They're not the height of fashion, but then I'm not buying new boots each year based on what's in fashion.

HoppingPavlova · 28/09/2020 07:12

I’m in Australia and we all seem to have them but after the 80’s I don’t know anyone who wears them outside, they are for around the house only. Everyone in my family has a pair but except for a late night run to the shop for an emergency item we don’t wear them out. They are very comfy and warm though.

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/09/2020 07:12

@DrManhattan

Chavy
There's always one Hmm

I love UGGs.

FloreanFortescue · 28/09/2020 07:12

The original style, absolutely not. I have had a different style from about 2009 and they still look brand new after seeing the start of their 12th Autumn/Winter. They have a much sturdier sole and quite a rigid shape. I think people see UGGs and assume sloppy. Those are knock-offs from the market folks!

doadeer · 28/09/2020 07:13

I live in a very expensive area in london and plenty of people wear them in winter doing pram walks or school runs.

Who cares if they aren't in fashion. Skinny jeans went out of fashion years ago and everyone still wears them!

I wear them occasionally if it's really cold and I'm walking with my son.

The real uggs are very different to the £5 ones I think - they don't cave in and they last really well.

FloreanFortescue · 28/09/2020 07:14

@user1471565182

You can get some actually decent looking and functional winter boots for much cheaper than those. My mate says only people who think having a bouncer as a boyfriend is desirable wear uggs.
How random!
XiCi · 28/09/2020 07:18

I think that Ugg suffer a bit from the popularity of the classic Ugg in the 00s as people just automatically picture them (and all the cheap knock offs) and dont realise that Ugg have a really great range of leather shoes, sandals & boots. Same as how the Burberry brand suffered from that ubiquitous scarf.
