It s getting cold and I was looking through coats online when I found this monstrousity.
Last week I was agreeing with parents who called their teenagers ridiculous for refusing to wear a coat in bitter cold weather.
Now I so sympathise having remembered my mother buying me this horror in year 9.
It was long wine coloured and sectioned like picture.
I was a skinny kid and looked like a long and very cold earthworm.
This thing came off as soon as I approached the school gates and stayed in my bag till hometime (shoved in my locker).
So aibu to ask you to share coat or other clothing shame teen memories and to ask parents of teen dc to consult them before buying clothes of shame?
Here it is

The Campri ski jacket (late 80’s), everyone had one usually in hideous neon colours. Mine was red, green and black. I also owned a lightweight summer version.

Op one of the mums at school wears a coat like this. It's in a pale colour though and looks like she's wearing her duvet.

Plump82 · 27/09/2020 18:19

Honestly? Ive seen a lot worse than that coat.

HeyDuggeeWhatYaDoin · 27/09/2020 18:20

Spliffy jackets 🤣🤣

recklessruby · 27/09/2020 18:20

Oh God that is migraine inducingGrin. My coat was mid 80s (and apparently still being made).

AlmaWhittaker · 27/09/2020 18:23

It would have to be the mid 80s luminous yellow shirt and matching socks...

recklessruby · 27/09/2020 18:24

@loutypips that s a real mum type coat Grin. I was a 14 year old goth. My dm was always trying to get me to wear colour.

Similar to you OP. Instead of the wildly fashionable, but totally impractical black leather biker jacket I wanted, my Mum bought me a huge, black 'ski coat' for school from C&A, with a badge that said 'polar patrol'. I hated that coat so much! I used to shove it in a bag as soon as left the house and leave it in my locker all day until it was time to go home. I preferred to freeze rather than wear that coat!

TacosTuesday · 27/09/2020 18:33

Those t-shirts that used to change colour depending on where you were hot/sweaty...she'll suits!

TacosTuesday · 27/09/2020 18:33

Shell!

recklessruby · 27/09/2020 18:34

@VioletCharlotte I wanted a black biker jacket too but got stuck with an earthworm coat. Lol at Polar Patrol. I can imagine your shame.

I remember going bowling wearing a black bra with a sheer purple top over it Blush

D4rwin · 27/09/2020 18:41

80s jumpsuit. I thought I looked like Ace from Dr Who.

My Mum used to buy these velvet skirt with matching waistcoat numbers for both of us to wear for parties. Now they were dire.

Pelleas · 27/09/2020 18:45

Leg warmers. Thought I looked the biz ... wearing them with a skirt and jumper Blush .

D4rwin · 27/09/2020 18:46

Giggorata · 27/09/2020 18:47

Shell suits. I just googled to find a picture and they are now classed all over the Internet as fancy dress.

Alwaysinpain · 27/09/2020 18:49

Skirt Trousers, Dungarees, Culottes, Combat pants!

ChaToilLeam · 27/09/2020 18:50

My DM used to inflict denim dungarees and ribbed polo necks in vile colours on me. Just what an overweight teenager needed to diminish her self esteem further!

Lantern156 · 27/09/2020 18:53

Mega wide leg jeans that acted like sails and constantly trailed in puddles and caught on your shoes. The more ragged, tattered and unkempt your hems, the cooler you were Grin

emilybrontescorsett · 27/09/2020 18:54

I remember as a child having a long dress with Holly Hobby or similar on the front. It was cream with a brown frill along the bottom and long brown sleeves. I also remember wearing a home knitted poncho I think It was bright yellow.

Time40 · 27/09/2020 18:54

Ooooh, I love that 70s maxi dress and the embroidered suede coat. I want them.

WINDOLENE · 27/09/2020 18:55

Reversable jumper with so called cute pics on.. My lovely long blonde hair was cut like a boy because apparently nits were going round in what us now year 7. My school coat had massive collars. School jumper was small I was medium.. I swear I was put in ugly clothes with an ugly boy hair cut and blue fucking suede shoes so no boy would ever come near it.. It bloody worked.
