their ineptitude during covid19 costing many thousands of lives... their corruption privatisation of health service appointing cronies in top jobs at bbc defunding of education health transport over past decade their living parallel lives with private education, private health, private travel, multiple homes.... their arrogance and lack of decency is heartbreaking breathtaking and they have 80 seat majority with many years before general election....

predicated on the certainty that the Corbyn/Abbot Labour alternative would have been worse

This is unknowable. It didn't happen, it's ludicrous for anyone to claim they can know what would have happened.

It's just blind dogma.

Also the idea that being a Christian and a retired doctor is proof of any degree of morality is illogical and incorrect.

And a tad offensive, as it implies non-Christian, non-doctors possess inferior moral compasses.

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince

Labour are now ahead in the polls.

Says it all really after they were elected on a landslide only 9 months ago.

I think the majority of the Tories want Boris out he’s a liability now. But he was elected to get Brexit done, not deal with a pandemic. I hate them too. Never thought if

The drawbacks of voting for someone purely based on one policy.
loobyloo1234 · 28/09/2020 14:04

YABU to be 'heartbroken' - im just fucking angry. They've made a total balls up of every big decision they've had in the last few years. Its infuriating that people still back them

@Babdoc

StoneofDestiny, As a Christian and a retired doctor, I’m rather puzzled by your ignorant comments about my presumed lack of morals and level of delusion. If you had bothered to read my post, you would see that my gratitude for our current government is predicated on the certainty that the Corbyn/Abbot Labour alternative would have been worse. Perhaps you are happy with anti Semitism, fiscal incompetence, and self ID allowing male rapists into women’s prisons, but I am not.
As a Jew, I wish Christians would stop pretending to care about anti Semitism. None of you give a shit when it’s the far right or Nigel Farage or Trump. You only cared when it was Labour. Anti Semitism hasn’t magically gone away under the Tories. Guess which religion is getting blamed for coronavirus and accused of raping kids and harvesting their blood? Hint: it’s us.

The drawbacks of voting for someone purely based on one policy.

In the face of all the evidence that it was going to be a shitshow too.

Hope I don't get seen by a medical professional with that level of judgement.

Hmm Where did you pick up that preposterous gem from?

Not sure your religion or your profession give you immunity (recalling how Harold Shipman used the same defence). In fact if Christianity champions the poor and underprivileged, I cannot see how Johnson, Reece Mogg and the like got your vote at all.

QAnon. Classic blood libel.

We’re apparently behind the plague, or Soros is anyway.

I'm not Jewish - but this I agree with this in abundance. Does anybody really imagine the followers of Trump (Johnson admits to admiring him and copying his strategy, and Farage give a flying fig about tacking anti semitism, racism or sexism? In fact the Tories and their love in with Farage has done more to stoke community division. Johnson was willing to deal with the DUP - the most bigoted party there is, and now willing to break International Law. Party of Law and Order my arse.

Bloody Hell, what a surprising turn this thread has taken. [shocked]

thecatsatonthewall · 28/09/2020 15:41

the Corbyn/Abbot Labour alternative would have been worse

You don't know that, its unlikely that our death toll could have been worse and of course very likely good people like Starmer and Cooper would have also been in Govt.

Perhaps you are happy with anti Semitism, fiscal incompetence, and self ID allowing male rapists into women’s prisons*

Tory party is riddled with prejudice, they wasted billions on track n trace, PPE contracts and HS2.

Isn't there a Tory MP who the party won't suspend, even though he is centerpiece in a rape allegation? Something that in any other work place would happen, to protect both parties and it is in no way an admission of guilt, just good practice.

But as you are supposedly a Christian (not quite sure why you even mentioned that) i am very surprised you support a party whose main policy is Austerity and to keep or even increase the high levels of inequality in this country and to reduce social mobility.

luckylavender · 28/09/2020 15:43

@Elai1978 - it always comes back to Corbyn doesn't it? He's gone, move on.

SerendipityJane · 28/09/2020 15:45

Because how else would you know ?

@contrmary

The virus isn't the Tories' fault. Whatever choices they make will be wrong - either more people will die, or the economy will be fucked more. It's a great time to be in opposition - most of the public will fall for the lies and deceit spun by Sir Kier Starmer KCB QC, a true man of the people!
One lie that you are aware KS has told. Just one... I've got me popcorn...

The NHS isn’t being privatised. Private firms can bid for contracts to run parts of the service for a finite amount of time. This was introduced by the Blair/Brown govs.

The Naylor Review on estates was bloody amazing and should have received cross party backing. The NHS is full of leaky old unsuitable Victorian and Edwardian buildings which are totally incompatible with modern medicine. They’re falling to bits. There’s also hospitals who have anomalies like 25 x single storey car parks.

They Naylor review said it will cost too much to bring the buildings up to scratch, so they want to sell those building and things like excess single storey car parks to developers. That would make huge sums of money which would be used to build spanking new hospitals with much more capacity, multi-storey car parks. Plus more homes will be built to help with the housing crisis.

All at zero cost to the tax payer. But it hasn’t happened because Labour to their standard wheeze of saying “oh but selling of teh NHS, Sky es falling” bollocks. And they block it even though they know it’s a good thing which should be happening.

But no, it’s just a political football to Labour. If you want to apportion blame for the NHS, look at Labour’s consistent blocking of reform.

Labour claim they’re saving the NHS from privatisation. That usually just means they’ve saved a pisspoor substandard bit of NHS estate which is unusable and costly to maintain. Well done. slow handclap
