Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

@toiletbrushtrauma

Ok fair enough it's a thing.

I won't be buying them I'll just tell her not to clean the bowl (I don't leave it covered in shit anyway like the rest of you seem to).

We don't leave our toilets covered in shit because we use toilet brushes!
oldwhyno · 24/09/2020 10:38

"Do people honestly leave shit marks on their toilets" er.. no, we use a toilet brush.

^"There aren't any shit marks in there. Do people honestly leave shit marks on their toilets and expect their cleaner to clean them off."^

I'm an ex-cleaner. Some people really do. And worse.

BertiesLanding · 24/09/2020 10:42

Put bleach round the toilet bowl; take the toilet brush and sit it in the water for several minutes before using it; brush is bleached and cleaned while being used. Hey presto!

This thread is peak mumsnet! 😂😂😂

@candourclegane

Using a toilet brush to clean off skid marks is disgusting.

If you make a mess, it is easy to clean it up with loo roll and and an extra flush whicle it is still, er, fresh. A squirt of fairy liquid and some hot water every now and again keeps things clean.

However, if I was paying someone else to clean my loo I would provide what they asked for I think.

@candourclegane I understand it's easy to clean up abover the water line but how do you deal with anything undesirable below the water line?
queenMab99 · 24/09/2020 10:49

Do people use rubber gloves and a brush, for 'ahem' personal care?
No, they just wash their hands thoroughly afterwards.

daisyjgrey · 24/09/2020 10:50

I don't have toilet brushes, never have. The very notion of them makes me heave.

My toilets are clean, they get squirty bleached every night before bed, a fizzy harp thing in them once a week and a cistern block for every flush.

How filthy are you all that your toilets need physically scrubbing all the time?!

festfestfest · 24/09/2020 10:50

So are you saying you put your bare hands down the toilet and scrape off poo?
PivotPivott · 24/09/2020 10:51

So disposable toilet brushed are bad for the environment but 'fizzy tablets' for your toilet aren't? Wink

How crazy are you to put that much chemicals down your toilet constantly. You probably kill about 200 fishes a week. Selfish.
OneFiveFour · 24/09/2020 10:53

If bleach cleans toilet brushes, how come it doesn't clean toilets?

That's what I want to know.

How come so many brush-advocates are determining that standing the brush in bleach makes it clean but bleaching the toilet does nothing?

MulticolourMophead · 24/09/2020 10:53

OP, if you've ever had IBS, or maybe D&V, you might then understand why some people need a loo brush.

id rather stick my hand down the toilet to clean it than have a shit covered brush hanging around in the bathroom - but then I clean my own toilet.

SmileyClare · 24/09/2020 10:55

Op: There aren't any shit marks in there. Do people really leave shit marks in their toilets and expect their cleaner to clean them off?

So what's the issue then? Your cleaner is not cleaning shit off your toilet, you've done that before she arrives.

She's asking for a brush to scrub off the build up of bacteria laden limescale that builds up in every toilet. How is the brush going to be "covered in poo".

As for the poster that has a Toilet brush phobia is that a thing? You're scared of it? Grin

HaggieMaggie · 24/09/2020 10:55

I don’t believe the people that say their poo has never slid down the side of the bowl and there are never any skids in their loo.

I do the same as some others and clean skids with toilet paper and flush. Then I bleach and scrub the bowl, the brush is then stood in diluted bleach in its pot. I buy Wilko cheap white brushes and change them regularly.

OneFiveFour · 24/09/2020 10:56

Toilet water doesn't get pumped into wild water. It goes to a sewage plant to be treated.

Why would you leave it covered in shit? That's just slack
Crystal87 · 24/09/2020 11:01

You can't clean a toilet properly without a brush. How do you get under the rim and scrub under the water line? Just get the cheap ones and replace every few weeks and flush with beach after each use.

knittingaddict · 24/09/2020 11:03

I don't own a loo brush. Loos all look lovely and white with a good dosing of loo cleaner once a week. I could post a picture, but that's going too far even for me.

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/09/2020 11:06

I can only understand not wanting to keep a toilet brush in the bathroom. They don’t have to be kept there. I have one toilet brush for whole house and I keep it in my utility room under the sink.
Not having one at all is a bit Hmm
Btw- Bleach doesn’t remove limescale, it only bleaches it.

knittingaddict · 24/09/2020 11:06

I have IBS too. Sometimes have to wipe with some spray cleaner and tissue, but I hate loo brushes.

81Byerley · 24/09/2020 11:09

You can buy silicone brushes, which are more hygienic, but as an ex cleaner I can tell you that a brush is essential. At home, I clean the loo every morning, and I use the brush every time, on a loo that looks clean, because I reckon it needs it. I put bleach down first, brush round, then leave the brush in the toilet in the bleach water while I finish cleaning the bathroom. The brush always seems clean to me!
