Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

I actually cannot believe there’s an adult who doesn’t have a toilet brush next to each toilet in their home.

A toilet will never be hygienic it is filled with shit and piss ever day. If it looks ok I am ok with it.

Remind me not to visit your house within a month or anyone having been ill with D&V if you think it’s pointless to scrub a toilet as it won’t be hygienic anyway!

HappydaysArehere · 24/09/2020 10:12

If you don’t have a brush how do you clean under the rim of the toilet. Anyway, toilet brushes aren’t expensive so why not supply them. If you can afford a cleaner then that shouldn’t be a problem.

zatarontoast · 24/09/2020 10:13

I put a squirt of thick bleach under the rim every night and don't flush it until the morning. This has eliminated the need for a brush, toilet is very clean, it even cuts through the skid marks (and removes them, rather than just bleaching them as a pp said)

DysonFury · 24/09/2020 10:15

Did they also request a poo knife for each loo?

SmellsLikeFeet · 24/09/2020 10:15

@PatriciaPerch

toilet brushes make my blood run cold
Dear God....... 🙄
IceCreamSummer20 · 24/09/2020 10:16

I don’t get it. You can afford a cleaner, but not toilet brushes for each toilet?

What about on the rim of the bowl? The bit men and small children wee on? Ugh.
EchidnasPhone · 24/09/2020 10:17

No toilet brush here. Squirt the bleach in around the rim. Bit of wadded up toilet paper to wipe down. Flush and done. A soggy crap stained brush isn’t a necessary accessory in our house.

laidbacklife · 24/09/2020 10:20

Loo brushes are revolting! Just throw bleach down it and let that do all the hard work for you. I would never dream of leaving an evidently dirty loo for anyone else to deal with anyway and certainly not our cleaner who I have to look in the eyes each week!

Diva66 · 24/09/2020 10:21

We have 3 bathrooms and there’s a lavatory brush in each one.

LimitIsUp · 24/09/2020 10:22

I have got over my toilet brush phobia by putting them in the washing machine on a hot wash (on their own - not with laundry) on a regular basis

mumwon · 24/09/2020 10:23

its not just skid marks its also hard water stain build up where the bacteria builds up within it - nb when skid mark is left I poor hot water in loo to clean worst of it off. I rinse brush in loo by flushing each time.
So I put cleaner down each day & brush under rim & than clean right down deep in bowl to turn than I flush (with brush under flush) than put in more cleaner & rinse in clean water with cleaner.
I assume (hope!) you use gloves & dispose of them each each day? If you don't use gloves you would be contaminated by a whole zoo of bacteria, virus etc that you would find difficult (almost impossible) to wash off. Carrying loo brush from loo to loo is daft & time consuming & leads to possible cross contamination let alone the risk of drips, cleaning with tissue paper won't get stuff off under the water line.

candourclegane · 24/09/2020 10:24

@Conkergame

YABVVU! Why on earth wouldn’t you have a toilet brush?!

What do your guests do if they leave a mark? So gross and embarrassing all round. Why would you want to put your own arm down the loo to clean poo off?! Shock

Using a brush to clean off poo is disgusting, just use a bit of loo roll. If I leave a skid mark in another person's house, that's what I'd do. If under the water lines, then another flush will get rid of it.
Anordinarymum · 24/09/2020 10:25

There aren't any shit marks in there. Do people honestly leave shit marks on their toilets and expect their cleaner to clean them off confused

No because most of us have a loo brush which we would use first before the cleaner even gets there

Playingchesswithpigeons · 24/09/2020 10:27

NOOOO ! I don't own a toilet brush.
I thought they went away, with the carpet toilet lid & carpet toilet rug!

My bathroom including toilet is clean & sparkling. Toilet cleaner, bleach, tissue/wipes/disposable cloth is enough.

To have a dirty recepticle, with it sole use to clean multiple household faeces, having a permanent place in the bathroom is repugnant, cover or no cover. I don't clean up after my family, the expectation and norm is for them to do that themselves.

Anyone leaving marks in the toilet for the cleaner to remove, is also repugnant and disgraceful. My expectation of a cleaner is to disinfect and wipe clean.

candourclegane · 24/09/2020 10:27

Gosh, I have got quite het up about toilet brushes, what's wrong with me?!

Whatthebloodyell · 24/09/2020 10:28

I don’t see why putting a loo brush down the loo and then back in its pot, is any yuckier than using gloves and then putting them back in the cupboard (or using them for
Other cleaning jobs...).

Anordinarymum · 24/09/2020 10:29

The thing is.. with a toilet brush you don't have to put your hand into the loo under the water. Neither does the poor cleaner YUK !

Peachy1381 · 24/09/2020 10:29

This is a fake post surely.

catherinep80 · 24/09/2020 10:31

I don't like toilet brushes either but it's kind of yuck not to have a toilet brush in each toilet. In our house, everybody is expected to brush the toilet themselves after use if any marks are left. I can't imagine carrying a toilet brush around from one toilet to the other to clean them.

Namechangeme87 · 24/09/2020 10:32

I don’t get why people are asking how do people clean the rim of the bowl with no brush ? A cloth ? Sponge , wipe with a bit of bog roll in between proper cleans ?

You mean to tell me to clean pee from the outside rim of the toilet or the seat people are taking their skid marked toilet brush and using that ? How do the bristles not flex when pushed down to scrub n ping off little particles of pee everywhere when u do that ?

I am being light hearted btw just find it funny the two totally opposing sides that loo brushes bring out on here

Namechangeme87 · 24/09/2020 10:32

I mean the top part were men / kids always seem to leave pee

Mumratheevergiving · 24/09/2020 10:35

@SleepingStandingUp

Do you at least have one in your guest toilet?
I would hope so or does she issue her guests with a pair of marigolds and a bottle of bleach on arrival?

I wouldn't like to be a guest and not have access to a toilet brush. I like to ensure our family can leave the toilet as clean as they find it.

Sleepinyourofficeinstead · 24/09/2020 10:36

Because my life is somewhat empty at present I do find myself occasionally mulling over how anyone can convince themselves that putting their hand down a toilet to clean it is somehow preferable to using an implement designed to clean it. It's a circle I can never square.

Also can everyone stop boasting about never doing skiddies? It's actually quite insulting to those of us with a... softer tendency.

RandomLondoner · 24/09/2020 10:37

Think those who don’t have a brush must have soft water.

I don't understand all the people saying brushes are need because limescale. I live in London, my water is hard. The only time I've had a problem with limescale in a toilet is when the cistern was leaking a trickle of water. The solution there was to fix the cistern. That aside, in 30 years I've never had a spec of limescale in my toilets, and I've almost never used a brush. (The only cleaning ever is a squirt of bleach. I actually do have brushes in case I ever need to get rid of shit faster than bleach can dissolve it, but I seldom have visitors, so this isn't an issue.)
