Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

The best solution is to ask the cleaner not to clean the toilets when she comes. You can then clean them using your method. It's quite a small job and not worth all this angst with your cleaner.

I do understand your dislike of the look or idea of toilet brushes in every bathroom.
I clean for a woman with a beautiful house, very minimalistic artfully designed bathrooms and she simply doesn't like the look of brushes in those rooms.

I carry a toilet brush from room to room. It's a bit of a nuisance I must admit and I have to be careful that no bleach or water drips from it when I'm transporting it.Sad

Cadent · 24/09/2020 10:00

Do people not realise that bleach just bleaches the stains so they don't seem to be there?

I think it does clean too but needs agitation. You can’t just squirt and leave.

MidnightCitrus · 24/09/2020 10:01

@JonHammIsMyJamm

No toilet brushes here either. I’ve had cleaners for 15 years. They put gloves on and scrub under the waterline. Just as I do. The scrubby sponges then get put on a boil wash with zoflora in the washing machine. No drama. Toilet brushes with the puddles of dirty water in the pots give me the heebie-jeebies. My toilets are clean as whistles.
so what happens to the gloves?
Kalula · 24/09/2020 10:01

@JinglingHellsBells

All this pearl clutching over bleach- unless you tackle the big boys of industry and farmers who pour all sorts into the water supply, a bit of domestic bleach is not making any difference. I assume you all use ecover laundry stuff, etc etc etc to stack up your principles?
So in other words, give up on making a difference, any at all, because.....industry and farmers? If everyone had that attitude, we'd be a lot, LOT worse off. Even a single household can make a big difference.

I am literally about to start work. The answers are all there people - I use fizzy tablets and cleaner to clean the bowl.

The gloves are only for the rare occasion I have to wipe up after my kids. I throw them away!!

A toilet will never be hygienic it is filled with shit and piss ever day. If it looks ok I am ok with it.

What I am not ok with is a standing puddle of shit flecks from houseguests - as apparently they will smear your toilet with their shit - sitting permanently in every bathroom.

How do your houseguests clean your toilet brush by the way? Surely they cover that thing in their shit, what then?

When I wear the loo cleaning gloves they are given a going over with antibac spray or a wipe (whatever I have to hand) and then washed with soap and water whilst wearing (like when you wash your hands after the loo). It’s not a big deal. I don’t know what the cleaner does and I don’t really care, tbh.

Brefugee · 24/09/2020 10:03

the easy answer is clean your own toilets. Sometimes they need a bit of a scrub and sticking your hand down someone else's loo (gloves or not) to scrub at it with a bit of loo roll is disgusting.

canigooutyet · 24/09/2020 10:03

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

No toilet brush here. The shape of the toilets means that you can't give a proper clean down the bottom at the u bend if you use a brush - only using a brush is pretty minging tbh. Rubber gloves and a cloth means you can give a proper clean in the right bits like the u bend and around the rim.

Very few skid marks in this house either - the occasional tiny smear above the water is wipes with toilet paper at the time, below the water will go with the next flush. I agree with the OP, I really worry about some people aim / diet if a bowel movement results in shit all around the inside of the bowl.

So rather than having a brush around you would prefer to leave the stains below the waterline?

Sorry but that's not a clean toilet. Your visitors don't want to see your families shit regardless of where it is.

Heavy periods also can leave trace above and below the water line. IBS I believe is also another potential pebble dash. I have bowel issues due to an accident in surgery, occasionally when I can go I do pebble dash.

I thank you.

I wish I could stay.

Love to all.

It's not pearl clutching though. Bleach doesn't clean, there are no cleaning agents in it. It's weird and lazy af.

I am chuckling at those who won't have a brush but use bleach, like it makes them superior in some way though Grin

SmileyClare · 24/09/2020 10:05

Toilet brushes, disgusting things covered in poo standing in a pot

Well that's your choice or your experience (?) but most people clean the brush after use and replace it fairly regularly. It's easy to rinse out the dirt and bleach/disinfect it.

As a cleaner working in a hardwater area a stiff brush is by far the most effective way to remove dirt and limescale build up.

Wow what a first world problem... "my cleaner doesn't want to put her hands in any of my three toilets during a pandemic"

I feel really sorry for you.

SallySeven · 24/09/2020 10:06

If it looks ok I'm not going to be ordering a full Quincy style Petri dish investigation into the microscopic state of the porcelain.

keeprocking · 24/09/2020 10:07

Only on MN are toilet brushes such a souce of controversy! I have three, each one lives in a bleach solution when not in use, seems simple.

BruceAndNosh · 24/09/2020 10:08

Squirt toilet cleaner down there, use those fizzy tablets of if the kids have made a mess use gloves and clean it with toilet roll and cleaner

So many unnecessary chemicals entering the sewage system
A brush is actually better for the environment

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/09/2020 10:08

Hard water here. No bleach and no loo brush.

A long glove and old kitchen sponges and a quick scrub under the rim, round the bowl, under the waterline and as far round the back of the pipes as I can reach.

Flush the loo with gloved hand inside to flush off particles and then wash in hot soapy water. Keep in a waterproof bag until next time.

Can be done daily in less than 5 minutes and no chemicals needed.

candourclegane · 24/09/2020 10:09

Using a toilet brush to clean off skid marks is disgusting.

If you make a mess, it is easy to clean it up with loo roll and and an extra flush whicle it is still, er, fresh. A squirt of fairy liquid and some hot water every now and again keeps things clean.

However, if I was paying someone else to clean my loo I would provide what they asked for I think.

Conkergame · 24/09/2020 10:09

YABVVU! Why on earth wouldn’t you have a toilet brush?!

What do your guests do if they leave a mark? So gross and embarrassing all round. Why would you want to put your own arm down the loo to clean poo off?! Shock

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 24/09/2020 10:10

Each to their own but personally I think toilet brushes are grim. There are always going to be shit particles left on it and it's just sitting there... I used to have cheap £1 ones and it was basically a disposable - every time it was used, it was binned. Complete waste and terribly bad for the environment. So now I just bleach, leave it for a bit and flush. I also live in a soft water area so no limescale build up. Shiny sparkling white toilet all the time!

toiletbrushtrauma · 24/09/2020 10:11

Oh my god I have had to sneak to to the toilet to write this...

YOU PEOPE ARE USING THE SAME BLEACH TO CLEAN YOUR TOILET BRUSH AS I AM USING TO CLEAN MY TOILET

How does my bleach harm the environment but yours does not ConfusedConfusedConfused
