Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

Clean all your toilets yourself, if I had a cleaner, I would not ask her /him to clean toilets. I use a toilet brush, and can't understand all the debates about them. ( in any case, there will soon be no toilet rolls to buy, so people will have to poo in a bucket,or the garden ha ha)

Wannabegreenfingers · 24/09/2020 15:44

This again. Get the brushes, they aren't dirty and can be kept clean. Once used, run under the flush occasional squirt of bleach.

I have one for each of my three toilets and I've never had to stick my hand, gloved or otherwise down the toilet.

OpEd · 24/09/2020 15:47

We have silicone ones, they're pretty good.

Dawnlassie · 24/09/2020 15:48

Either that of the cleaner takes the brush between them and drips shitty water over the floor.

Suzi888 · 24/09/2020 15:49

YABU toilet roll? seriously... yuck

PainyRuddles · 24/09/2020 15:53

Never mind the ick factor, its just such a profligate waste, especially if the numpties start panic buying the Andrex again.

Theres so many more options: Bog brush, old knickers used as rags, old cleaning cloth. Double bag the old rags though and bin afterwards.

paintspatteredpants · 24/09/2020 15:59

How do you exercise such control as to never ever leave a skid mark?

Line the bowl with loo roll before evacuating

paintspatteredpants · 24/09/2020 16:00

Either that of the cleaner takes the brush between them and drips shitty water over the floor.

And this is why no one should be using toilet brushes. They are covered in shitty water

SpecialchildSupermum · 24/09/2020 16:51

I use a toilet brush but I only like ones that sit in the container and are covered with a lid type thing so the brushes aren’t exposed. I clean the toilet with toilet cleaner and squirt loads into the toilet bowl then leave the brush sitting in the water with cleaning fluid for about twenty minutes. Clean toilet and clean brush 😬

SmileyClare · 24/09/2020 17:04

I do that supermum but go one step further and then shut the handle of the clean brush under the toilet seat so it balances there to dry. I prefer to put it back in the container dry. Grin

okokok000 · 24/09/2020 18:39

Personally I see brushes as a necessary evil. I don't buy expensive ones. Tesco do cheap £2 ones in white frosted plastic. I could get fancy ones but I like to change them frequently so don't see the point.

Kalula · 24/09/2020 19:02

@moanyhole Toilets also dont need to be scrubbed

It is a receptacle that continually has water in it - not to mention other things - which means bacteria creates slime/algae. Toilets NEED to be scrubbed, anyone who thinks otherwise is, well deluding themselves. Anything that has water in it as well as human waste and chemicals, needs to be scrubbed. It's really scary reading the lack of hygiene due to ignorance.

Do you believe teeth don't need to be brushed either?

Murphs1 · 24/09/2020 19:11

I’ve never had one, I bleach every day and if someone poops and it leaves marks I pop bleach down and flush 5 minutes later. My loo is sparkling!!

Kalula · 24/09/2020 19:15

@oreshina It's not just about excrement. That is what I think a lot of people are missing. Water creates slime growth and bacteria/algae growth. Squeezing some cleaning stuff in the bowl won't remove slime buildup. Forget excrement for a moment. Would you not scrub any other water receptacle?

chunkyrun · 24/09/2020 19:20

You can get them for £1 in home bargains

Aerial2020 · 24/09/2020 19:31

It's well known that toilet brushes carry germs and are very very unhygienic.

I don't know about cleaners as I don't have one but I use bleach and it works fine. Antibacterial wipes around the loo wearing gloves.

Aerial2020 · 24/09/2020 19:32

Yep
lockeddownandcrazy · 24/09/2020 19:34

I hate toilet brushes - but if you have to have one the silicone ones are more hygenic

HeronLanyon · 24/09/2020 19:51

Toilet brushes are absolutely disgusting ! Phew it’s been a few months since I could say that on a mn thread. Let’s hope it’s not so long next time. There could be an explosion !

pigsDOfly · 24/09/2020 19:55

I'm really puzzled as to how you can clean anything with toilet paper.

It's made to disintegrate as soon as it gets wet so unless you've got a great big wad of it it's just going to just fall apart as soon as you start scrubbing, and it's going to be completely ineffectual.

Perhaps that's where all the loo rolls went at the beginning of lockdown bought up by the anti loo brush folk.

Maybe it wasn't about Covid and panic buying at all. After all, you're going to need an awful lot of loo rolls if you're using a couple of rolls every day to clean your loo.

paintspatteredpants · 24/09/2020 20:14

Would you not scrub any other water receptacle?

Only if I was drinking out of it. I don't scrub my water butt

Thehop · 24/09/2020 20:24

I’ve never had a toilet brush I think they’re disgusting. Squirt bleach or cleaner round the rim every night and clean the toilet every other day and my loo is clean.

Mollyboom · 24/09/2020 20:26

FIlthy things. My cleaner made such a request and I told her no. There really shouldn't be shit marks on a decent human beings toilet as you should clean with spray and toilet roll immediately or put bleach down for those under the water mark. There is simply no need for toilet brushes to clean the seat of a toilet.

Lovely1a2b3c · 24/09/2020 20:31

I don't like loo brushes either. Maybe get the disposable ones? Or one where the brush sits in bleach in a holder?
