Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

I hate toilet brushes, always have! I also abhor dirty toilets (and bleach, I can't stand the smell 🤢) - to the extent where even as a very young child I would refuse to use the toilet if in deemed it 'too dirty'. I've never found that brushes get things very clean anyway, there's always crevices they can't reach. The thought of them sitting covered in poop particles or in poopy water makes me feel sick 🤮 No matter how well you rinse/bleach them they never look clean once they've been used!

I use an old kitchen scrubby sponge thing that needs to be changed and toilet cleaner, give the whole thing a good scrub. Under the rim, below the water line, everything. Then when I'm finished I just throw it away 😊 I have a separate pair of long gloves just for toilet cleaning that are washed with anti bac hand wash after every use.

That's just what I do and I'm happy with it, no manky brushes hanging around and everything is properly clean. But if others want to use brushes then go for it, each to their own! To be fair though, my toilet never gets that dirty as I live alone and don't have many visitors. I don't do number 2 in other people's toilets, ever 😂

toilet brushes are utterly revolting imo. I use bleach. Also those duck cleaning things, you can dispose of the pad after each use. Maybe use a different cleaner.

FelicityFisher · 24/09/2020 13:14

I'm with you OP! I have three toilets and shock horror - not one toilet brush! I think having a poo covered stick in your bathroom is just revolting

And nope, there are no marks in my toilet. Super easy to clean with just folded tissue if need be and bleach/ fizzing tablets. All my toilets are pristine so god know what the rest of you are doing that you need shit covered sticks in every bathroom Envy(sick face)

However each time their own. I'd just tell the cleaner not to do the toilets OP

Three loos, three loo brushes. I buy the Ikea 50p ones because they’re small and tuck behind the loo.

moanyhole · 24/09/2020 13:17

@SayWhatTheWhatNow

Toilet brushes are minging A squirt of bleach for stuck stains does the trick
Exactly. Little bits of shit left on the bristles that are hard to get off. Vom. I spray in some disinfectant, wipe clean with a wad of toilet paer and flush all evidence away. Toilets also dont need to be scrubbed- a squirt of toilet cleaner and left for a while once a week does the job perfectly. Plus my dog liked to play with the toilet brush when DH decided we needed one.
Straven123 · 24/09/2020 13:22

My cleaner was avoiding cleaning the toilet so, rather than crusty toilet brushes around the place I clean the toilet meself
She does everything else brilliantly.

PainyRuddles · 24/09/2020 13:22

wipe clean with a wad of toilet paer and flush all evidence away.

What a waste of toilet paper. I suppose you are one of those who has to panic buy eleven thousand rolls because of your disgustingly profligate ways.

Also, You all need to consider ceramic ornamental toilet brush holders. They would make an excellent feature on your mantels.

Proudboomer · 24/09/2020 13:24

I have three toilets and more than three brushes as each loo has two different style brushes.
It is not only skids that need a brush but limescale. We live in a hard water area and limescale it much more a problem than the odd skid mark.

redgin · 24/09/2020 13:29

Toilet brushes are just 🤢

How are you sure you've got all the poo off the bristles before you leave it sitting there, in your bathroom 🤮

Furbs · 24/09/2020 13:32

I don't use a toilet brush and never have. Bleach once a day is absolutely fine Confused

AntsInPenzance · 24/09/2020 13:35

No toilet brush here. Just use a toothbrush and give it a quick rinse before cleaning my teeth.

Furbs · 24/09/2020 13:37

😂

2bazookas · 24/09/2020 13:40

Perfectly normal to have the same number of toilets and brushes. I'm amazed you don't know that. Do you also share one toilet roll between all toilets? One bar of soap and one towel shared between all basins?

FeminismIsForALLWomen · 24/09/2020 13:44

Middle class people really are hilarious.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/09/2020 13:49

"Bleach once a day is fine" no it's not! It fucks the enviornment! It is toxic and smells disgusting.

Proudboomer · 24/09/2020 13:52

Bleach won’t remove limescale or watermarks. It just bleached it so you can’t see it but at the first pee in the loo the yellow will return especially if you have the no flush at night or the don’t flush after every pee.

fishywaters · 24/09/2020 13:55

I don't understand the fuss about toilet brushes on here. Have one next to every toilet. Leave the brush in its toilet brush pot with bleach mixed with water at all times (so it covers the brush bit) and it is really not that disgusting.

VirginiaWolverine · 24/09/2020 13:56

Do all the non brush people live in soft water areas? A squirt of liquid under the rim once a week isn't enough to stop limescale build-up here.

LakieLady · 24/09/2020 13:58

They are never used on shit, just for scrubbing bleach or loo cleaner. Then they are soaked in bleach solution until I next want to scrub the loo. Otherwise over time there is limescale build up which stains (I lived in a very hard water area). Seems reasonable to me

And to me. We have very hard water and if the bog doesn't get a good scrub every day, and Harpic daily, we quickly get limescale build up. I swear it would grown into stalagmites if we left it.

I'd like to know how people in hard water areas manage to limescale at bay without using a brush.

It's got worse since we've been WFH, as the Harpic doesn't get as long to work now we're home most of the time.

Blueuggboots · 24/09/2020 14:00

They're 99p in ikea?
MN has a real aversion to toilet brushes and many people seem to think that the germs are going to magically move from the toilet brush to crawl over your face while you sleep....
The toilet brush goes down the loo and cleans off any marks then sits there until next time to do the same? What's the problem??

damnthatanxiety · 24/09/2020 14:03

Fascinated to know what the OP thinks of toothbrushes...a new one used daily?

TheKeatingFive · 24/09/2020 14:04

It’s just the classic MN demographic all trying to out-hygiene each other.

It’s ridiculous. But quite amusing when they get in their stride and start hyperventilating over ‘shit sticks’ Grin

oreshina · 24/09/2020 14:08

Unless your teeth are covered in excrement it's hardly comparable

Topseyt · 24/09/2020 14:08

This is really weird. Can't your guests shit straight?

Years ago on here someone did claim to have taught her children to poo straight. Same OP?

Northernsoullover · 24/09/2020 14:09

This thread is hilarious. All you toilet brush fans why can't you accept that bleach dissolves skidders? I am a not proud owner of an avocado loo (rented) and I can assure you that there is not 3 years worth of shite in white in my lav.
I've never had a bog brush, but I don't care if anyone else does.
