DH has been eating crisps he doesn’t want for years

Ok not really an Aibu - but Dh just came home with a meal deal for us each - so two sandwiches drinks etc, and one packet of salt and vinegar and one cheese and onion.

I don’t like c&o (which he knows) and Dh just leaves his crisps. I said “oh are you not eating the ... he said no I don’t fancy that flavour...

It turns out that he always buys both for me as he still gets confused the by the green/blue packet thing! He’s being doing it for years and I’ve never noticed.

So Aibu to ask - is it really that hard to tell the difference between the two - even though walkers does muddy the waters!

I didn't grow up in the UK and we had the following flavours:

Salt & Vinegar = pink
Cheese & Onion = Yellow
Chicken = green
Tomato = red

and I've still never managed to buy the wrong flavour as I learnt early on to read the packets - but then i am very into crisps Grin

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 23/09/2020 23:23

Why on earth would chicken crisps be in green bags?! Madness

Grilledaubergines · 23/09/2020 23:33

Those of you criticising the OP for eating a meal deal at home never get a takeaway (for bringing home) because you should eat what food you already have? Or never go to a restaurant because why leave the house to eat elsewhere when you have a table and chairs to sit at, at home?

The minor details people get fixated upon is so odd!

Grilledaubergines · 23/09/2020 23:35

And Smiths Square Crisps are my favourite. Loads of flavour and in the correct, logical, coloured bag.

For eating meal deal shite, ask yourself.... the food miles and logistics when the sandwiches were made and if the people making them were germ free. ( I am not referring to Covid)

Just ask yourself how "fresh" they are. Hmm

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 23:43

@FinallyFluid I have no idea what you’re referring to in terms of them being “clean”... As clean as anything else in the fresh aisle of M&S I’d imagine.

Ask yourself that of the majority of food though. Unless you’re living in The Good Life, your food has travelled and workers associated with the process will have had the same level of involvement in the food as a pre-made sandwich (which will have been put together via a machine anyway.

@Grilledaubergines I do love MN - I’m surprised no one has yet mentioned how many calories in a sandwich and packet of crisps and pointed out that it would take them six days to eat such a huge meal. Wink

Has anyone answered the question of whether prawn cocktail flavour exists in Australia as their salt and vinegar is in pink packets? Because I really want to know!

Oh yes the “oh I couldn’t eat that in one go. How do people manage to eat all that?. I could just about manage a quarter but I’d have to forego dinner”

Or my favourite “mmm seriously deficient in protein. Perhaps add xyz to give more balance.

It’s a sarnie ffs😂

Hope you enjoyed it OP, you food-prep slattern!

Not crisp related but when they go out for meals my grandad always lets my gran choose what she wants then he orders what he thinks she would prefer. 9 times out of 10 they end up swapping. I’m not sure he’s eaten a meal he’s actually chosen in years but I think it’s super sweet of him Smile

Don't you think it would be sweeter to just order what she asks for?! Bizarre...
Wobbitcatcher · 24/09/2020 00:02

@StephenKong he orders what she asks for but will also order something he knows she likes as his meal (say she usually has lasagne but decided to try the steak)
When it comes she will say oh I should have had the lasagna instead and he will offer to swap his.

I don't think that's sweet at all! He's basically saying she doesn't know her own mind. If he always does that, despite (nearly) always ending up swapping, don't you think it's about time he ordered what SHE's chosen for herself? It must be incredibly frustrating for her to always be overruled over what she's going to eat. He should respect the fact that she's capable of choosing her own food.
Italiangreyhound · 24/09/2020 00:04

Presumably he knows now that you both like the same flavour so he just needs to get he ones he likes for both of you. Or can he not even remember which flavour he likes!?

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 24/09/2020 00:04

@Oysterbabe

I can't think of a single flavour of crisps I don't like.
What? Even these ones?😱

Ah, I get you! That is sweet 😃

Wobbitcatcher · 24/09/2020 00:12

@StephenKong ah phew I was sad that my sweet story was misunderstood Smile

CharityDingle · 24/09/2020 00:36

@CharityDingle

So, has he been eating the ones he doesn't like, up to now?
I have to ask again, because I don't understand.
skittycat · 24/09/2020 00:54

I got super excited this year to discover that the little icon on the back of walkers bags to do with throwing the packets in the bin (I may or may not have managed to attach a photo to explain better) is different across several ranges that they do - the one on the back of the wotsits bag is different to the monster munch and quavers ones for example.

TwoShades1 · 24/09/2020 06:18

Don’t ever let him come to Australia! Salt and vinegar are purple here! Dark Blue is usually plain/salted. Green is usually chicken flavour. Some brands do a light blue which is sour cream and chive. The cheese and onion ones are yellow.
