To strongly dislike Nicola Sturgeon right now?

Here to rant that Nicola has gone one step further and banned meeting in homes. She always feels the need to one-up Bojo, and hasn’t even given the rule of 6 she introduced last week a chance to see if it’s working.
Interested to know what the English think - do you think she’s taken it too far, or Bojo hasn’t taken it far enough?!

Seems like such a disparity that in England you can meet with 6 other households indoors and here none 🤯😡🤬😭😭

@willselfdestructin10seconds

We call her Wee Jimmy Krankie in our house Grin
OMG! That's so funny, how on earth did you think of something so original!

@TheNewLook

England says pubs to shut at 10pm, Sturgeon announces pubs in Scotland to close at 9.55pm

I know this is a joke but it is very apt. Constant one-upmanship. Scotland is part of the UK and Boris is her PM but she cannot stand the fact and makes all her own announcements as if what the UK PM says doesn’t apply to Scotland.

It generally doesn't apply to Scotland. Health, law and education are devolved.
ALLIS0N · 22/09/2020 20:24

@lyralalala

I also find it bizarre that people have continual pops at her. Scotland, Wales and NI have always been pretty close in their actions through this whole thing. They've stayed stricter.

Yet somehow they're all wrong/enjoying playing games/playing politics because they've done different to Boris, Cummings and Hancock?

This.
Redcups64 · 22/09/2020 20:25

To me she seems to be the only one who is actually trying to stop Covid as much as possible...which she PM’d England too!

ChodeOfChodeBall · 22/09/2020 20:25

@KeepingPlain

I've always strongly disliked her - nothing to do with a global pandemic

This. She's a stupid woman who has done nothing but ruin Scotland with her obsession to make it independent, and if she gets her way there she will completely ruin us. Fix the schools and NHS first nicola, then we'll see about trusting you with everything else.

Completely agree with this.

Nothing to do with misogyny, as I am just as pissed off with Johnson, but for very slightly different reasons.

Redcups64 · 22/09/2020 20:25

lyralalala · 22/09/2020 20:25

No it’s usually the other way around. Boris will say “we’ll open schools” and she’ll say “no, we’re not opening schools.” And then two days later she says “we’re opening schools.”

Given the difference in school term dates that simply didn't happen.

MaintainTheMolehill · 22/09/2020 20:25

I have every confidence that the decisions she makes while difficult are for the best. I am glad for Scotland that we don't have to rely on Boris.

I suggest you read up on the devolved administrations, your ignorance is showing.
SallySeven · 22/09/2020 20:26

Scottish Conservative leader agrees with her on TV right now.

museumum · 22/09/2020 20:26

I’m not a big fan but I feel safer up here and feel we’ve more chance of our kids getting a whole year of education this academic year.
It’s a bugger. But I don’t think boris’s restrictions will be any use at all.

SallySeven · 22/09/2020 20:27

I think Boris bottled it tbh.

ChloeCrocodile · 22/09/2020 20:28

it's not a great hardship to have no indoor visitors .

Maybe for you. Lots of other people are really struggling.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 20:28

'Its not done in some sort of competition with Johnson, who takes advice from Cummings, one of the worlds leading experts in manipulation.Johnson will be introducing far tighter restrictions v soon.'

🙄

England has a population of 54m, Scotland 5m. England has areas the same size of Scotland already in tighter restrictions. If it ends up that more areas have to be locked down that won't be because Nicola led the way, it will be responding to an ever changing situation.

ssd · 22/09/2020 20:29

I watched the BBC news earlier, the interviewer was in a pub in England discussing the new 10 pm closing with the landlord, neither of them had masks on, I'm really noticing the difference from up here, people here are mostly all wearing masks in pubs and shops with very few exceptions

I can see how it's spread around England so much if masks seem so optional.

candourclegane · 22/09/2020 20:29

Yes, I think some Edward Leigh and others had a strong word with him.
WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 20:30

Clackmannan has had 20 positive tests (i can't even call them cases to be honest) in total since the end of May, I repeat May. They aren't allowed to meet in each others homes, yep that seems proportionate.

Wtfdidwedo · 22/09/2020 20:31

Mark Drakeford is doing it on a county by county basis which is much more sensible than locking down every area. Some counties in Wales have 1 or 2 cases per day. I would be really irritated if my county went into lockdown because 10 other counties had high cases.

52andblue · 22/09/2020 20:32

I am no fan of the SNP. They've made a mess of many devolved issues one of which affected me personally very badly. I am English and have lived in Scotland for 30 years but have noticed the amount of ant English sentiment has increased during the last decade of SNP

BUT NS has come across as far more states-person like than Johnson during this and I think her political capital has increased hugely. I think she is correct to restrict things more at this point. Johnson says: 'a stitch in time saves nine' but he isn't doing it.

Personally - I met her once about 5 years ago. I had taken my kids into the Pizza Express right next to Holyrood at an odd time - around 4pm. We were the only ones there, except one lone middle aged guy.
She walked in and went to his table. It was her husband and they were grabbing a quick pizza together. Yet, when my 8 yr old son recognised her and whispered, she noticed and came over and spoke to my kids and did selfies with them. She seemed v pleasant and I cannot imagine Johnson bothering to do that with plebs like us.
I think she is very professional and very good at her particular 'brand'

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 20:32

Cases seem to be rising quicker in Scotland in many areas so it makes sense for them to have stricter measures I guess...

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/20/coronavirus-uk-map-confirmed-covid-cases-and-deaths-today

i feel sorry for my parents there.

jasjas1973 · 22/09/2020 20:32

She also comes out almost every day and has done from the very start for the press briefings... compare with Johnson?

A lazy man.

SentientAndCognisant · 22/09/2020 20:33

Nicola Sturgeon is an excellent FM she has a good team,I trust her judgement , I don’t trust or like BJ
Yes it is difficult but the R rate is rising,we are facing another health emergency
Services are still impacted after the adjustments made for covid

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 20:33

Yes, to promote herself and for political reasons Hmm

a lot of naiivity on here at times

ravensoaponarope · 22/09/2020 20:33

I think she's great and I do notice how she gets so much more stick than Mark Drakeford in Wales, even though he has also implemented stricter measures.

Don't worry, he gets slagged off quite a bit over here in Wales.
But I think Nicola gets slated because the SNP actually poses a real threat to Westminster's control of Scotland.

KeepingPlain · 22/09/2020 20:33

Nothing to do with misogyny, as I am just as pissed off with Johnson, but for very slightly different reasons.

Yeah it's got sod all to do with her being a woman and everything to do with her being a shit leader. Look at the Shetland Islands, jesus they want out of Scotland completely because of how many promises she has broken to them. Our NHS is a fucking joke, and she gets all the stick for that, she runs it! Our schools are quite literally falling apart. Our councils are mostly broke. Our mps that are snp lie to us continuously. Despite her promising there would be no council tax rises, ours rose recently. So a liar as well.

Boris is a shit leader too, not arguments there. He is equally as useless. She however is dangerous to Scotland. If we go independent, we are screwed. She can't even run this country well with everything that she has under her control. If she could, I'd be willing to give her a chance. But she's made so many mistakes because she thinks about independence only. I don't trust her with even more power, she won't get it right when she can't even do basics right.

But we will probably go independent anyway. Bring on even more debt for Scotland and more taxes for us, yay! Hmm
