To strongly dislike Nicola Sturgeon right now?

Here to rant that Nicola has gone one step further and banned meeting in homes. She always feels the need to one-up Bojo, and hasn’t even given the rule of 6 she introduced last week a chance to see if it’s working.
Interested to know what the English think - do you think she’s taken it too far, or Bojo hasn’t taken it far enough?!

Seems like such a disparity that in England you can meet with 6 other households indoors and here none 🤯😡🤬😭😭

Me thinks she's enjoying this power she has over us too much! Keeping up with the daily briefings and having so little time for anything else says it all in my book.

Whammyyammy · 22/09/2020 19:37

As a general rule I don't like NS, but I have grown to respect her decision process during covid

FelicityPike · 22/09/2020 19:38

If she had shut the pubs in Glasgow the same way she shut them in Aberdeen then things might be different.
She’s doing a bloody hard job though and trying as best she can.
If folk would follow the bloody rules things would be better!

fluffyugg · 22/09/2020 19:38

I live in Scotland in a low case area but honestly I think she's done the right thing and acted early. What was the UK government's big announcement? Pubs shut at 10 and keep working from home...really? That's it?

CalmYoBadSelf · 22/09/2020 19:38

Most of the North of England already has the "you must not meet in homes or gardens" so she is hardly breaking new ground.
I think she is a dreadful woman but I'm not Scottish so my opinion means nothing on this anyway

Loobyloo71 · 22/09/2020 19:38

Solidarity to Wales & NI 🤝
The outdoor thing is jokes because it’s going to be too cold & dark soon because..Scotland

The arsehole in this situation isn't Nicola Sturgeon.

lyralalala · 22/09/2020 19:42

@Loobyloo71

Yeah to be fair he does usually copy what she does a week later. It’s just the injustice that makes me mad. It’s not been that bad up here really and yet we’ve always had it stricter.
Can't you see the connection between "It's not been that bad" and "We've always had it stricter"?

The restrictions in Scotland are much clearer as they now apply across the board. They're simple, rather than you can do X in Y place, but not in Z place.

They've also put more thought into children, families and non-cohabiting couples.

princesspap · 22/09/2020 19:43

As a Scot living in England, Nicola has grown on me massively. Would rather have her in charge than Boris with his waffle. She seems to be more decisive and "on it"
Boris will no doubt copy soon enough.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 22/09/2020 19:44

I've never been a fan really, but I do think that the Scottish government acted quickly and decisively to protect the fragile and vulnerable island communities which were at grave risk. As a result, the Western Isles has had the grand total of 8 cases so far (official figures say 10, but 2 turned out to be false positives according to the health board). I'm very grateful for that.

lyralalala · 22/09/2020 19:45

I also find it bizarre that people have continual pops at her. Scotland, Wales and NI have always been pretty close in their actions through this whole thing. They've stayed stricter.

Yet somehow they're all wrong/enjoying playing games/playing politics because they've done different to Boris, Cummings and Hancock?

Loobyloo71 · 22/09/2020 19:46

@lyralalala ok yes, I do get your point, but I’m too busy with my tiny violin here!

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 22/09/2020 19:46

I don't think anyone would be happy whatever decision was made to be fair.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 22/09/2020 19:46

It’s not been that bad up here really and yet we’ve always had it stricter.

Doesn't that tell you something.

I think she has been great through this, far better than Bojo and his waffling.

SonjaMorgan · 22/09/2020 19:46

I quite like Nicola. It is a crappy position to be in. You can't stray too much from what England is doing as the border is open but Bojo has and is always screwing everything up.

RantAndDec · 22/09/2020 19:49

I think she's great and I do notice how she gets so much more stick than Mark Drakeford in Wales, even though he has also implemented stricter measures. A great deal of unconscious bias against women comes into play when people pick on Nicola. People can't stand strong women.
People are so Anglocentric too. Why do you think her policies are all a reaction to what's happening in England? Do you really think that Scotland's government works simply on a one upmanship basis? It's not all about England. She's taking the steps she feels are appropriate to ensure the safety of those she is responsible for.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 19:51

The thing is Scotland has a small, similar sized population to Yorkshire. So it's the equivalent of what we already have in place with areas not allowed to mix households. There would be no point doing it in areas ike the south west with low rates. She just enjoys her head wobbling one upmanship.

sorryforswearing · 22/09/2020 19:53

I’d have been pleased if Boris had done 6 people one household. I always thought the 6 different households was stupidity. I don’t think he’s done enough to make a difference. Also think the U.K. should have the same rules. Probably not the ones favoured by Boris. I think Nicola Sturgeon has done a much better job.

BrazenlyDefying · 22/09/2020 19:54

Only right now?

Lots of us have strongly disliked her for years.

Arthersleep · 22/09/2020 19:55

If you see which countries have handled the pandemic the best, they have important women at the helm. Yes, she does have a tendency to stick two fingers up at Boris, but I wouldn't trust his strategy which has been inconsistent and arbitrary.

UnholyStramash · 22/09/2020 19:55

Why can’t we have a proper MN vote on this.

RedRumTheHorse · 22/09/2020 19:55

She is copying NI and Wales.

BJ is the odd one out here.

Loobyloo71 · 22/09/2020 19:56

@RantAndDec I mean, I live in Scotland, that’s why I’m annoyed at Nicola. I’m sure if I lived in Wales I’d be just as annoyed at Mark!

But also, a lot of SNP’s rhetoric is anti-England and ‘we’re better than them’, so yes, I do think there’s political one-upmanship at play here too.

I'm in Scotland and I think she's done the right thing. Household transmission seems to be the driving force.
