To strongly dislike Nicola Sturgeon right now?

Here to rant that Nicola has gone one step further and banned meeting in homes. She always feels the need to one-up Bojo, and hasn’t even given the rule of 6 she introduced last week a chance to see if it’s working.
Interested to know what the English think - do you think she’s taken it too far, or Bojo hasn’t taken it far enough?!

Seems like such a disparity that in England you can meet with 6 other households indoors and here none 🤯😡🤬😭😭

she cannot stand the fact and makes all her own announcements as if what the UK PM says doesn’t apply to Scotland

Well funny enough since lots of things such as health are devolved to the Scottish Parliament lots of things Boris says doesn't apply to Scotland. Hmm

ssd · 22/09/2020 20:33

I'd forgotten about the much larger population in England, I take the point of the poster before me.

MJMG2015 · 22/09/2020 20:34

I think she's doing really well. I like the way she explains things and doesn't waffle.

She's 'on it' Boris is snoozing.

Appreciate what you have!

Votesforpedro · 22/09/2020 20:34

I think she has made a good choice and does appear to be laying out clear and reasonable instructions.

SallySeven · 22/09/2020 20:34

I think she's very professional too. I admire her right now for taking unpopular decisions.

SorryImKnew · 22/09/2020 20:35

I loved Boris saying something like 'our peoples love FREEDOM' or something similar in his speech today. I chuckled and thought 'what the fuck would you know you dictator/colonialist bleep'.
Then I turned the TV off.
Nicola I don't like just because.

saleorbouy · 22/09/2020 20:36

It's really like all the heads of the parliaments /assembly are just trying to be different. It would be too simple to just have the same rules across the whole of the U.K. But for them that would be sacrilege and make it seem like it's one nation.....God forbid!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 22/09/2020 20:36

Look at the Shetland Islands, jesus they want out of Scotland completely because of how many promises she has broken to them

Sigh.... this garbage again.

Daisychainsandglitter · 22/09/2020 20:37

There are already quite a few places in England under these restrictions. I live in the West Midlands and we can't visit anyone's home or have anyone round to ours. I think it won't be long until those rules are in place throughout England.

BusyDreaming · 22/09/2020 20:38

Huge swathes of England have had extra restrictions for weeks/ months.
Some areas have had them introduced today.

What I dislike is the narrative that the Scots have done ‘better’, whatever that might mean.

We were in Glasgow visiting relatives the weekend before further restrictions were implemented there.
We’d never seen anything like it in the part of England in which we live.

Hordes of folk inside and outside pubs and restaurants, no social distancing, no face masks apart from a few elderly people walking about.

But then, apparently Scottish idiots are superior to English idiots.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 20:39

I dont know why the Scots aren't annoyed tbh as it's out of control in Scotland. A very small population, not densely populated like England, I mean why hasn't #ThankyouNicola done better I thought she smugly said she was eliminating it a few short weeks ago? That app's doing a great job.

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 20:39

I don't see how she has done 'better' seeing as the cases there are rising more than most of England.

it will be interesting to see what happens and if it 'works'.

Frazzled2207 · 22/09/2020 20:40

in England and honestly, she is the voice of reason as far as I can tell.
I wish she was in charge, not Boris.
She gets many points in my book for making young children exempt from all the rules.
I honestly don't see it as constantly trying to upstage Boris - unlike him she's actually a grown up.

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 20:40

also they are far less ethnically diverse in most areas than the rest of the UK.

Viviennemary · 22/09/2020 20:40

She has become a total pain in the neck.

MidnightCitrus · 22/09/2020 20:42

@Loobyloo71

Yeah to be fair he does usually copy what she does a week later. It’s just the injustice that makes me mad. It’s not been that bad up here really and yet we’ve always had it stricter.
so what does that tell you?
asprinklingofsugar · 22/09/2020 20:42

YANBU

As I messaged some friends who live abroad earlier

“So the uk and Scottish governments are introducing new restrictions again. In Scotland, from tomorrow we’re not allowed to visit other people’s homes anymore. And pubs have to shut at 10pm. But they’re still open, as are restaurants and non-essential businesses such as clothes shops for example. And schools are still open.

I don’t see how my going to visit my grandparents is causing more risk than lots of people going to pubs, getting drunk, probably not social distancing that well (there’s not all that much space in some of the ones in my local area I’ve been to). Or more risky than thousands of school pupils mixing 5 days a week”

I can still meet friends and family in coffee shops and restaurants and pubs, but I can’t go and have a cup of tea at their house. Which is arguably safer, esp as I and those I’d be visiting, have only gone out a handful of times since March.

She’s always got on my nerves anyway, and has had to backtrack in the past eg with the named person scheme. And it’s been blatantly obvious to me right from the start that she’s going to use this crisis to make a case for independence in future. Never mind the fact, that it’s been the uk government bailing us all out financially by funding the furlough scheme so far. Her government have criticised the scheme ending but have made no move to implement such a scheme off their own backs (probably because it would negatively impact Scotland economically and they’d receive backlash for that).

I have no love for Boris at all, and think he’s made a right royal mess of some things but this plan doesn’t seem to be well thought through and sends mixed messages imo - ie don’t visit family members at home, instead you could/should all go out for dinner together

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 22/09/2020 20:44

I am English and have lived in Scotland for 30 years but have noticed the amount of ant English sentiment has increased during the last decade of SNP

How can you be certain this is down to the SNP, and not, for arguments sake, the increased xenophobia, isolationism, hostility to immigration, and total contempt for Scots opinion shown by successive Westminster Tory governments?

Anti-Englishness directed at individuals is reprehensible, but I think you need to differentiate that from 'anti-English' sentiment directed at an intransigent government that Scots don't elect, acting directly contrary to Scots stated opinion. Why does it follow this is a consequence of the SNP governing Scotland, and not Tory governance from Westminster?

Buccanarab · 22/09/2020 20:44

It’s not been that bad up here really and yet we’ve always had it stricter.

Gosh it's almost as if applying stricter control measures helps stop the virus spreading...Shock

The issue isn't the government(s). The issue is we're a nation of fucking morons with a "that doesn't apply to me cause I'm special" mentality and an inability to maintain basic hygiene practices.

SallySeven · 22/09/2020 20:47

The basic hygiene and ability to give others space does seem to be an issue.

AnyFucker · 22/09/2020 20:49

I don't understand how she has the time to do daily briefings for months on end. Hasn't she got other pressing work to do ? Confused

And if I see her in another pair of fugly white heels again I may just throw my tellybox out the window.

CayrolBaaaskin · 22/09/2020 20:50

I think some people will dislike Nicola whatever she does

FreshFreesias · 22/09/2020 20:50

Wee Jimmy is completely out of control.

Purpledaisychain · 22/09/2020 20:51

A bit of both. Boris hasn't taken it far enough in some instances, but she is being pathetic with her need to get one over on him.

GetTheDoorFrank · 22/09/2020 20:54

At least nicola can coherently string a sentence together as opposed to boris saying uh after every second word
