As I messaged some friends who live abroad earlier
“So the uk and Scottish governments are introducing new restrictions again. In Scotland, from tomorrow we’re not allowed to visit other people’s homes anymore. And pubs have to shut at 10pm. But they’re still open, as are restaurants and non-essential businesses such as clothes shops for example. And schools are still open.
I don’t see how my going to visit my grandparents is causing more risk than lots of people going to pubs, getting drunk, probably not social distancing that well (there’s not all that much space in some of the ones in my local area I’ve been to). Or more risky than thousands of school pupils mixing 5 days a week”
I can still meet friends and family in coffee shops and restaurants and pubs, but I can’t go and have a cup of tea at their house. Which is arguably safer, esp as I and those I’d be visiting, have only gone out a handful of times since March.
She’s always got on my nerves anyway, and has had to backtrack in the past eg with the named person scheme. And it’s been blatantly obvious to me right from the start that she’s going to use this crisis to make a case for independence in future. Never mind the fact, that it’s been the uk government bailing us all out financially by funding the furlough scheme so far. Her government have criticised the scheme ending but have made no move to implement such a scheme off their own backs (probably because it would negatively impact Scotland economically and they’d receive backlash for that).
I have no love for Boris at all, and think he’s made a right royal mess of some things but this plan doesn’t seem to be well thought through and sends mixed messages imo - ie don’t visit family members at home, instead you could/should all go out for dinner together
