To strongly dislike Nicola Sturgeon right now?

Loobyloo71 · 22/09/2020 19:22

Here to rant that Nicola has gone one step further and banned meeting in homes. She always feels the need to one-up Bojo, and hasn’t even given the rule of 6 she introduced last week a chance to see if it’s working.
Interested to know what the English think - do you think she’s taken it too far, or Bojo hasn’t taken it far enough?!

Seems like such a disparity that in England you can meet with 6 other households indoors and here none 🤯😡🤬😭😭

'People can't stand strong women.'

Bollocks. I think Arlene Foster comes across well as does Angela Merkel.

Sturgeon has used this whole crisis as a party political broadcast/indyref rally.

ThousandsAreSailing · 22/09/2020 19:57

She has handled it as badly as BJ she just sounds more believable

Nquartz · 22/09/2020 19:57

@Loobyloo71

Yeah to be fair he does usually copy what she does a week later. It’s just the injustice that makes me mad. It’s not been that bad up here really and yet we’ve always had it stricter.
Is that why it hasn't been as bad though?

Personally I think the 6 people from different households rule makes no sense, 6 people from 2 households makes more sense.

amijustlosingmymind · 22/09/2020 19:57

Can’t stand her but I think she’s doing her best

RasberryRoyale · 22/09/2020 19:58

I can’t stand Nicola Sturgeon but ban on meeting others in their homes and vice Versa has been in place in my area for a few weeks due to local lockdown. Now it affects the whole of Scotland.

I thought pubs were 10pm? Except in Scotland it changes on Friday not Thursday.

Give it a week and Bojo will copy.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 19:58

'Household transmission seems to be the driving force.'

Yes that is why great swathes of the North of England have more restrictions.

RepDom21 · 22/09/2020 19:58

@fluffyugg

I live in Scotland in a low case area but honestly I think she's done the right thing and acted early. What was the UK government's big announcement? Pubs shut at 10 and keep working from home...really? That's it?
I agree with this.

There’s no time to be “waiting a bit longer” what exactly are we waiting on? March Confused

KeepingPlain · 22/09/2020 19:59

I've always strongly disliked her - nothing to do with a global pandemic

This. She's a stupid woman who has done nothing but ruin Scotland with her obsession to make it independent, and if she gets her way there she will completely ruin us. Fix the schools and NHS first nicola, then we'll see about trusting you with everything else.

flashbac · 22/09/2020 19:59

So much misogyny...

Elieza · 22/09/2020 20:00

I’m in one of the areas that’s been banned from meeting indoors for the last couple of weeks, so no change in that regard for me.

Apparently there has been a bit of an improvement in our area from the last fortnights new rules already. I guess that’s why they are being extended.

We are all sick of it all but I’m happy to continue with the rules in the hope it will save lives. Older and younger people are getting it just now. Perhaps it’s mutated. I wish it would just bloody well die and gie us all peace.

lyralalala · 22/09/2020 20:00

@RantAndDec

I think she's great and I do notice how she gets so much more stick than Mark Drakeford in Wales, even though he has also implemented stricter measures. A great deal of unconscious bias against women comes into play when people pick on Nicola. People can't stand strong women. People are so Anglocentric too. Why do you think her policies are all a reaction to what's happening in England? Do you really think that Scotland's government works simply on a one upmanship basis? It's not all about England. She's taking the steps she feels are appropriate to ensure the safety of those she is responsible for.
It always makes me laugh when people rant about her "gazumping" Boris by announcing stuff "First".

People forget that Westminster made early in the day announcements for a couple of times, the other nations set up their daily briefings to follow. Westminster then chopped and changed their times before settling on a time.

Obviously the pleb lesser nations should have changed their times right away so the great leader could go first....

She can't win. If she announces first she's gazumping and posturing. If she announces after she's copying (are we all 5?) and lax

angelopal · 22/09/2020 20:02

She should have locked down Glasgow like she did to Aberdeen. Instead she is enforced the Glasgow restrictions on the rest of us.

justfinefornow · 22/09/2020 20:02

I think she's impressive.

lioncitygirl · 22/09/2020 20:02

She’s just an idiot - trying to ‘out-do’ Boris at anything. Not necessarily better - just trying to be different. No idea what she’s trying to prove, but she looks stupid doing it. IMO.

AshenQueen · 22/09/2020 20:03

I don’t even compare us to England’s rules anymore, or to what BJ says vs NS. I’m not sure why the Irish and Welsh FMs aren’t also getting ‘one up’ on the PM if that’s what people really think.

I think we’ve done pretty well in Scotland and I’ve trusted her judgment so far, although it is pretty devastating that I can’t visit family (but can still go for a drink in a pub Hmm).

I think she’s very clear and comes across human, which genuine or not, I like. And although it’s really not the time and very childish, I hate Boris so much that I’m quite amused by her little digs!

JustSaying101 · 22/09/2020 20:03
@RantAndDec I mean, I live in Scotland, that’s why I’m annoyed at Nicola. I’m sure if I lived in Wales I’d be just as annoyed at Mark!

But also, a lot of SNP’s rhetoric is anti-England and ‘we’re better than them’, so yes, I do think there’s political one-upmanship at play here too.
Of course there will be political oneupmanship, she is paving the way for an independence vote. With BoJo's constant u-turns and weak cabinet, this certainly works in Sturgeon's favour. I think England will follow the no mixing of household policy by October/Nov. Reckon BoJo is just easing his way in to gauge public opinion.

It's not hard to out do Boris - he's the fucking idiot!

@flashbac

So much misogyny...
I mean, it’s really not, there’s a lot of us up here who dislike her leadership and her party’s governing (covid-19 aside). Nothing to do with whether she is a woman or not.
OP posts:
fluffyugg · 22/09/2020 20:05

@lioncitygirl I really don't see that and find it hard to understand when people say this. I genuinely think she's trying to do the best for the Scottish people in a really challenging situation. Do you truly believe she's just trying to beat Boris and doesn't care about anything else?

lyralalala · 22/09/2020 20:06

I mean, it’s really not, there’s a lot of us up here who dislike her leadership and her party’s governing (covid-19 aside). Nothing to do with whether she is a woman or not.

There is a lot of misogyny directed toward her though.

She gets shit for things much, much more than Mark Drakeford does.

BeanieB2020 · 22/09/2020 20:06

At least extended households can still meet in each other's houses so if you're single like me you're not forced into complete isolation (again). Glad she's actually remembering the impact of lockdowns on single adults this time.

AlternativePerspective · 22/09/2020 20:07

Yeah to be fair he does usually copy what she does a week later.

No it’s usually the other way around. Boris will say “we’ll open schools” and she’ll say “no, we’re not opening schools.” And then two days later she says “we’re opening schools.”

TBH while I can see that some think Boris hasn’t gone far enough, if banning household gatherings in Scotland doesn’t make a difference then there isn’t much further scope to bring in restrictions which don’t involve a full lockdown. Boris still has additional steps to take before it comes to that.

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 20:07

I think it will be bad in terms of mental health and she may have suicides, the cure may be worse than the disease...let people have more of their own choice rather than treat them like babies..

also it may not work, it has not shown much change in Northern England possibly due to non compliance but not sure.

willselfdestructin10seconds · 22/09/2020 20:07
