To strongly dislike Nicola Sturgeon right now?

Loobyloo71 · 22/09/2020 19:22

Here to rant that Nicola has gone one step further and banned meeting in homes. She always feels the need to one-up Bojo, and hasn’t even given the rule of 6 she introduced last week a chance to see if it’s working.
Interested to know what the English think - do you think she’s taken it too far, or Bojo hasn’t taken it far enough?!

Seems like such a disparity that in England you can meet with 6 other households indoors and here none 🤯😡🤬😭😭

It is wishful thinking on your part if you think NS is going to change her mind in three weeks! There is no way she is going to row back on it!! No way at all, you would be far better understanding the full implications of what she has done now, rather than clinging to a mistaken idea that she will suddenly have a change of heart - that just isn't going to happen.

Please reread my post. I said REVIEWED in 3 weeks, depending on rate of infection. I did not cling to any mistake . It is SG policy at moment to review situation in 3 weeks where the situation is fluid. If rate of infection increases then restrictions will still apply or tighten. Exactly same as it has been since March.
I was correcting the poster who stated that NS said these would be in place for 6 months. She did not say that. Boris implies that they would.

And I do agree that this is going to be a miserable winter. Sad. I am also an optimist but it's awful that we can't even plan anything, even for next year. Can't really plan Christmas either. Usually have family and friends over, but that looks unlikely. Much as I love my husband and youngest adult daughter, I really want to see other people.

Wherrsmaclickypen · 24/09/2020 11:05

friends

Exactly. I can only imagine the grimness of the internal scientific, health and economic briefings at SG and Westminster right now.

I certainly wouldnt want to be a politician right now, and to circle back to the Ops opening gambit I dont think NS has taken it too far at all.

i susoect any optimism is also inversely linked to the time spent on these threads 😬

Maybe we should make the most of the restaurants if we are able to, as much as we can now, have a flu jab and start taking vitamin D, rally around those that are already fragile, many of us are going to struggle in many ways so I hope we can find the kindness that was shown in the spring replicated in the winter.
Whatever happens when the spring arrives next year it will have a whole new meaning to the word welcome.

Pumperthepumper · 24/09/2020 12:42

@ArranBound

Everything Mrs Murrell does is to get one up on England, or to demonstrate her hatred for England. She doesn't give a toss about the people of Scotland. She has her raison d'etre and doesn't care what happens so long as she gets rid of England.
Mrs Murrell fuck off. What a horribly misogynistic way to make a point.
Kinneddar · 24/09/2020 13:42

I missed that 😲 Referring to her by using her husbands surname instead of her own is downright rude

SBTLove · 24/09/2020 13:48

@ArranBound
Seems to have enough hatred to go around, what a vile post full of lies. Who on earth has that level of hatred towards someone you don’t know??

IncandescentSilver · 24/09/2020 14:15

Oh for God's sake, why does any criticism of NS or the SNP have to be twisted into "hatred" and childish "you said this", "yes, you did, you're bad" type nonsense?

Can't you just have a discussion about actual content! Some of us quite like discussing these issues with other people!

I will repeat. It's normal, in healthy societies, to criticise the government.

Sometimes, real people use idiomatic words and phrases which the average, well balanced person would not take offence to.

It's so obviously used to shut down anyone who dares to disagree with the SNP idealism.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see the future economic outfall of these measures, be ause it seems from what I have personally heard, that the UK measures are stricter than most of northern Europe, and Scotland is stricter still, and has been for quite some time.

No doubts my words will be policed and micro-examined..

Yes: let's rally around each other, it may be a long hard winter.

There is so much division in Society & we need each other more than ever now, whatever side of the Border or political persuasion we are.

NS is neither saint nor sinner. Nor is BJ, (I guess ? !)
Most of the 'big stuff' we cannot do anything about, until voting day.

MadameBlobby · 24/09/2020 14:42

I hate it all too but if I just keep reminding myself it’s to stop people getting sick it does make me feel a bit better.

What a horrible rude attempt at a dig at her. But why am I surprised judging at the level of some of the stuff here. Never mind the fact that some people don't seem to be able to tell the difference from wanting independence and control over you own countries affairs and "hating the English " Hmm

fuffit · 24/09/2020 17:03

I can't stand her because of the Hate Crime Bill, which will make giving a tame opinion like "I think that believing in God is silly" to a member of your own family in your own home an imprisonable criminal offence.

What does ‘brain dead’ mean to you?

Feel free to AS me - I didn’t support independence, still don’t, and have never voted SNP.

Monkey2001 · 24/09/2020 18:42

Have you all seen the latest for the poor Scottish students - they are banned from pubs and restaurants!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-54285720

SBTLove · 24/09/2020 19:04

Hardly poor students, 124 cases at Glasgow Unj, obviously they need to isolate and find a way to limit the spread. I’m sure they’ll live not going to pubs!

StoneofDestiny · 24/09/2020 20:19

Monkey
Last week there were several universities in England where students could not leave their Halls of Residence at all as individuals in the block had tested positive.
Sensible strategy to prevent the spread I’d say

SentientAndCognisant · 24/09/2020 20:59

A woman is not obliged to change her name upon marriage or to double barrell
Ms Sturgeon has not changed her name, politically & personally she is Sturgeon
So to pointedly call a woman by a name and designation Eg Murrell that’s not hers, that she doesn’t use.It is trying to demean the woman and erase her autonomy

Monkey2001 · 24/09/2020 20:59

Depressing level of self interest here. 124 out of several thousand students. No evidence that the majority were breaching the rules. The ones with covid in their bubbles are already fully isolating.

A significant number of students will now have to stay in through no fault of their own. Luckily it is only for the weekend for now. I am bowing out of this thread, so don't reply telling me that all students should have their freedom completely curtailed because of those who could not obey the rules.

SBTLove · 24/09/2020 21:05

@Monkey2001 we are all enduring restrictions through no fault of our own(mostly) why should students get special treatment especially when it’s been shown this quickly they are not being responsible or abiding by guidelines.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 24/09/2020 21:21

Oh is that what the Mrs something comment meant? I have no idea of NS's husband name and don't know why I would need to? I wouldn't answer if anyone called me Mrs (dhname) why on earth would the first minister?

StoneofDestiny · 24/09/2020 22:15

Yes - to choose to call a woman by her husbands name that she has chosen not to use is just another dig at a strong, independent woman by someone who can't handle the fact that such women exist. Pathetic.

SentientAndCognisant · 24/09/2020 22:29

Of course it’s a dig at Ms Sturgeon, pointedly declining to use her actual name
Choosing to call her Mrs Murrell when you know that’s not her name
It’s chosen to undermine and belittle. Inferring she’s the wee wifey
It reeks of wummin know your place

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 24/09/2020 22:43

A very small population, not densely populated like England,

Just FYI, most of us don't live in Highland crofts but in the central belt - the area around and between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Glasgow is the 4th largest city in the UK and Edinburgh is the 8th. I believe that the average Scot lives within a higher density area than the average English person.

So no, it's not that.

I'm very, very glad to be Scottish this year. I can't imagine being stuck with what Cummings decides.

fuffit · 24/09/2020 23:03

Unfortunately, for the foreseeable we are stuck with what Cummings decides.
And even if independence happens, we will be hugely affected by what happens in England and how they choose to treat Scotland.
