Ds1 (2.6) was in the front of the trolley, ds2 (6mo) was asleep in his car seat, correctly strapped into the top bit of the trolley. This woman approached me and said I would probably be told off for having ds1 in the front of the trolley. OK, I know it is not the safest place for him, but it is hardly the most dangerous. And he has happily shopped in this position for at least a year. And anyway, as long as my children are not in IMMINENT DANGER, why should she feel inclined to dispense unwanted and unsolicited advice, especially in such a passive aggressive manner ('Someone' is going to tell me off, or you are?)??? It is hard enough schlepping through the shops without people passing judgement.

jobsworth. YANBU.

she is from the same school of jobsworthiness as our school secretary, and the security guard in wool worths who told me off becasue my 2 yo dropped a 99p flask THAT WE WERE IN THE QUEUE TO PAY FOR onto the floor. He said 'can you stop her dropping that?' and I laighed and siad 'no' and he said 'well you'll have to pay for it then' me - 'that is why i am in this big long happy queue'him- 'well when it breaks, you can't bring it back and get another one you know.' me - 'it is 99p'

why? not sure, perhaps security guard was actually equity partner of woolworths under cover for the day - perhaps your tesco lady was also, and was worried about potential civil claim!
loons.

Here's a different take -

My ds was in the seat part of the trolley when the bits holding it together broke and sent ds flying backwards into the trolley. He screamed and screamed, he wasn't hurt just very shocked.

It happened in Morrisons, the manager was apologetic and said it had happened before (dh was quite calm until this point and then exploded) and they were waiting for new trolleys!

JoFan · 10/10/2007 14:27

DS (4) is a bloody minded adventurous(sic) sort and he's quite big for his age

The kiddie seat is too small for him and as he climbs out of the trolley If I put him in it, I ask him to walk with me.

I try doing 'educational things like asking him to 'pop that in the trolly please' 'how many tins of tomatoes are there?' 'we need 4 tins of tuna' etc etc but it usually ends in chaos

So far Ds has
Snuck off when the aisle split halfway down.
Helped himself to batons of french bread (hey at least it wasn't chocolate or sweets)
Opened a multi pack of fruit shoots inthe aisle (we don't drink fruit shoots)
'Skated' down the bread aisle, crashed under the display and hurt his finger
Run off with 1/2 dozen free range eggs
Lost me and gone to the security chap to tell them he was lost (Tannoy announcement and guess who was there 1st, yep MIL!)

But no body died and hell, the world was still turning

Shopping with DCs is just hard work/soul destroying

JoFan · 10/10/2007 17:54

if only tesco/asda/sainsburys had a creche

lots more chocolate and vino would accidentally land in my trolley if i wasn't hooning round trying to keep to the centre of the aisle

nappyaddict · 02/11/2007 22:56

our old safeway used to have a creche.

don't really see the problem with dc in the trolley basket. i mean most people wash their worktops don't they? and most trollies are left outside in the rain so they are going to have germs on them anyway!!

do tesco trolly seats have straps? i always think its stupid when in some shops they don't!!
