When will the BBC wake up....?

Good. More women should be paid high salaries because comparatively I'd guess that her male counterparts are paid more.

liverbird10 · 20/09/2020 16:53

@popcornlover I remember her from Kenickie, actually, but hey ho. You sound like someone with an axe to grind. Confused

hexmeginny · 20/09/2020 16:54

Definitely worth every penny - she's great. A breath of fresh air.

emilyfrost · 20/09/2020 16:55

So? What’s the issue exactly?

popcornlover · 20/09/2020 16:55

I personally think she’s not diverse enough - too white and middle class, that’s all.

Bearnecessity · 20/09/2020 16:55

No-one batting an eyelid that she is paid more than the prime minister of our country then....I have also taken issue with Gary Linekar's pay on here before so it is not because she is a woman. I also like her and for those struggling to have a discussion without accusing me of 'picking on her' I am not my issue is with BBC pay scales. If you find my thread odd or strange naff off to other threads and leave your odd and strange comments there.

@popcornlover

She’s not very talented. Bottom class at everything she tries to turn her hand to. She owes her career to the fact she dated a music journalist when she was younger - she made all the connections she needed then dumped him. Kerry Katona has more personality, and that’s saying something. I can see why she might appeal to MNers though.
Hmm Are you thinking of Donna Air?
Palavah · 20/09/2020 16:56

@popcornlover you sound very bitter.

Goldenbear · 20/09/2020 16:56

Why does the BBC have to pay salaries like that, why can't they mostly be on a good salary say £80,000 plus? What makes there jobs worth more than £200,000 which is very generous, why can't they work and live off that? Genuine question? Many people won't see that as even combined income and aren't lucky enough to be in a job that is a Labour of love.

LavenderBucket · 20/09/2020 16:58

@MrsTerryPratchett

Is there a word for vague-booking, but on MN?
AIBV? (Am I being vague)
Smellbellina · 20/09/2020 16:58

Hahaha ahhh poor Boris, if only I had my teeny tiny violin to hand.

CCSA · 20/09/2020 16:59

Market forces... pretty simple. If they can earn it commercially the BBC has to cough up to have roughly equivalent talent. It could be smarter about the way it pays / ties people in though.

Smellbellina · 20/09/2020 16:59

Why would they work for the BBC for a reduced salary when they could get so much more else where, for the kudos?
It’s not like, I dunno, choosing to be a politician!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/09/2020 16:59

Stealing this.

Struggling to comprehend how an individual can be "diverse". Should she paint a different colour stripe down one side of her body? Or regularly swap between two different accents?

I kinda loved Kenickie ...Grin

WTAF. She was brought up in a working class family in Sunderland. And too white?

Bemyhat · 20/09/2020 17:03

Well if Boris wants to become a female radio presenter - then he should go for it. Grin

unimaginativeusernamehere · 20/09/2020 17:04

Honestly, until the pay gap between men and women is completely closed I will applaud any woman on a high salary whether her jobs 'deserves' it or not.

DominaShantotto · 20/09/2020 17:06

She used to let me play Tetris on her gameboy under the desk in lessons at school. Glad financially she's being rewarded for her contribution to my gaming high score.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 20/09/2020 17:07

It's not her fault she couldn't get a decent tan this year!

ancientgran · 20/09/2020 17:08

No one complains at the legions of useless men being paid the net worth of a small country. They do, that's why we know what they get paid isn't it because people moan about it. I think footballers in particular are always being criticised about it, I always think it is because they are mostly working class and frequently black. Posh white blokes seem to get away with it.

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 20/09/2020 17:08

Tee and Mo is a fucking abomination, I'd pay £400k to never have to see an episode ever again.

NotABridezillaToBe · 20/09/2020 17:08

It’s madness any radio presenter gets paid that much, especially those at the BBC. As a pp mentioned, if they got paid 80k I am pretty sure enough decent people would be lining up to do the job.

GherkinTherapy · 20/09/2020 17:09

She was brought up in a working class family in Sunderland I know she likes to describe herself as working class, but her parents were a university lecturer and a teacher, so the epitome of middle class I would have thought.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/09/2020 17:09

She is certainly doing more good for the country than the prime minister.
