To say that Tom Hardy as James Bond is all wrong

I just cannot get my head around him being the new James Bond. He just isn’t that. I know exactly what he will do to James Bond and if I know that already, why would I want to see the movie?
Please give us someone else. 😖

I wanted Idris Elba

Theyeasayer, I wished our school dads looked like TH! Smile

Stripesgalore · 20/09/2020 17:23

Tom Hardy went to boarding school so I’m pretty sure he can come across as posh when he wants to.

RaraRachael · 20/09/2020 17:24

I wouldn't know Tom Hardy is he walked down the high street. I've never really liked many of the James Bonds especially the one who couldn't do an accent if his life depended on it Grin

fantasmasgoria1 · 20/09/2020 17:29

I would rather he took over a wolverine because I'm not a bond fan. That being said he's an excellent actor, you only have to watch legend and his portrayal of the krays to see that. I think he will make a very good bond.

Rhubardandcustard · 20/09/2020 17:29

Was hoping for Sam Heughan as the next bond. Could do with another Scottish accent bond. That said I don't mind Tom, was never keen when they announced Daniel Craig and then changed my mind after watching Casino Royale, so maybe Tom will surprise us.

Smallsteps88 · 20/09/2020 17:29

I’m a humongous Tom Hardy fan and I totally agree with you OP. Much as I want more opportunity to see him on the big screen suited and booted, he is very much not James Bond. I think they’ve chosen poorly here. He’s the wrong person for the role but I wonder if it’s because there isn’t anyone else who is better for it?

IcedPurple · 20/09/2020 17:29

@MrsTerryPratchett

It's never someone that well known. They always float a lot of very well-known names for the media attention then pick a less famous actor. Less money to pay them and a wider pool to pick from.
Agree. They usually go for someone who isn't that well known, certainly not an actor who's already been in a superhero film. They'd want more of a 'blank slate'.

Also, Tom Hardy is 43, which is getting on a bit to start out as Bond. I think this is just headline grabbing stuff, much like all the Tom Hiddleston hype a few years back. The next Bond will likely be someone many of us have barely heard of.

UnfinishedSymphon · 20/09/2020 17:30

I thought the next James Bond had been touted as Lashana Lynch who is in the next film with Daniel Craig?

Which one was it? Please tell.

Idris is too old now.

James Norton maybe but is T1 diabetic so stunts might not be doable.

Henry Cavill: runner up to Daniel Craig as was too young...and is now right age but they might not mix franchises

Tom Hardy.....not sure. It's rumour. He's surprisingly (disappointingly!) short in real life.

Depends what they're going for: the charming twinkly eyed Brosnan type or the 'ard nut Craig look.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/09/2020 17:32

Sam Heughan is an excellent shout. He would be great.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 20/09/2020 17:34

Sam Heughan looks a bit like Roger Moore, had to google him Sam that is not Roger. No way would Tom Hiddleston be a credible Bond he looks like Tintin!

IcedPurple · 20/09/2020 17:35

Henry Cavill is easy on the eye but he's a terrible actor. Also a charisma vacuum, so really not a good choice for Bond.

Totickleamockingbird · 20/09/2020 17:38

When I read Outlander, I didn’t imagine James Fraser to look like Sam Heughan. But he has pulled it off spectacularly and owned the character. He just falls a bit short on the height side of things (Fraser is much taller than Claire in the novels and Balfe is nearly 6 feet herself). Otherwise, perfect for the role.

I think he will be perfect!

InFiveMins · 20/09/2020 17:43

YANBU. Hardy is a great actor, but he is not right for the role of James Bond, IMO.

Disappointedkoala · 20/09/2020 17:54

Only if he plays JB as Alfie Solomons. That would be something.

Katharinablum · 20/09/2020 17:57

Richard armitage but probably a bit old Sad

bringbackfonzi · 20/09/2020 18:03

James Norton would obviously be the best Bond! I can't understand why everyone can't see that...

VeryLittleOwl · 20/09/2020 18:04

@UnfinishedSymphon

They've been crafty with that one, they've said she's the next person to use agent number 007, not the next Bond.
Alleycat1 · 20/09/2020 18:07

I don't care as long as it is not Tom Hiddleston. Weak-chinned James Bond is not!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/09/2020 18:09

He broods well but looks awful when he smiles, which I think he's aware of so picks roles accordingly. Broody, miserable types so the smiling is minimal.

Bond twinkles so it wouldn't fit. I know Daniel Craig is also a miserable git but still.

UpToonGirl · 20/09/2020 18:16

Henry cavill was really good in The Man from U.N.C.L.E looked like he was having fun and the role suited him. He's definitely improved from Cold Light Of Day.

My favourite description of him is "All the sex appeal of a lawful good water biscuit".
