To say that Tom Hardy as James Bond is all wrong

I just cannot get my head around him being the new James Bond. He just isn’t that. I know exactly what he will do to James Bond and if I know that already, why would I want to see the movie?
Please give us someone else. 😖

I don't know who Sam Heughan is but going by a quick Google he's a bit too square-jawed for my liking. Might look good as Bond if he's tall though.

I'd forgotten about James Norton. He was in the running at one point, wasn't he? He'd be good –he looks like he could do the physical rough-and-tumble side of it but he also scrubs up well. He has a quality of inherent kindness though, IMO, that I'm not sure would work so well.

Jack O'Connell would be good; has an edge of slight violence that would work. He's too young for the Broccolis though I think.

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 10:23

I don't find Tom Hardy to be a good actor, personally.

Likewise Riz Ahmed, Aidan Turner or Dominic Cooper. All just a bit lightweight. As is Santiago Cabrera (and he is a bit too pretty/fey too).
Tom Burke, though... interesting thought.

I didn't know James Norton had T1 diabetes! He or Jack O'Connell might still be my top choices.

Although now I've got Tom Burke in my head and I can kind of see it... Posh enough, charismatic enough, but also a bit miserable and a bit mysterious.

A quality of inherent kindness? Did you see him in Happy Valley? Pure evil!

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 10:35

TheYeaSayer, yes, but Bond doesn't have to be 'pure evil'; I'm thinking of the more subtle stuff – the slight heartlessness/distance, particularly towards women, in Bond.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him as Bond. I'm just not 100% convinced he's right.

TheYeaSayer · 23/09/2020 10:40

I wasn't suggesting that Bond need be pure evil, @IntermittentParps - just that JN doesn't always emanate kindness.

I think he'd be pretty good as Bond.

HalloumiFries · 23/09/2020 10:40

Jack O'Connell is a fantastic shout. A younger Bond could be interesting too.

I can definitely see Sam Heughan in the role but from pure personal selfishness, I'd rather it didn't go to him. Poor Sam, I've nothing against him and he seems lovely but I know someone who knows him and this person is insufferable about his showbiz mate already. I can't begin to imagine how tedious it would be if he ends up being mates with James Bond Grin

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 10:45

TheYeaSayer, no, I know. My point is just that I don't quite see that specific Bond quality in him.

TheYeaSayer · 23/09/2020 10:58

Hmm, that certain Bond je ne sais quoi @IntermittentParps? Yes, it's very hard to pin down. But it's a bit like the new Dr Who as well... you always dislike a new one until you get used to them!

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 11:01

Maybe that's true, YeaSayer. And I'd be happy to be proven wrong! Although I'm more and more intrigued by the thought of Tom Burke or Jack O'Connell…

bellinisurge · 23/09/2020 11:02

I could put up with it. Actually, having seen the Riz Ahmed suggestion on here, that would be good. Bulk him up a bit (sorry for the body shame comment) and he'd be great. He's a good actor.
Of course, on a Star Wars theme, the mighty John Boyega might make a good Bond

MojoJojo71 · 23/09/2020 11:04

Erm, because Tom hardy is in it? I haven’t watched a bond movie for years but might do now. I even watched the CBeebies bedtime story with him without DD 😂

DillonPanthersTexas · 23/09/2020 11:09

Michael Fassbender would be good

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 11:11

There's a comment above about Michael Fassbender's racing being a problem –I don't know what that means but maybe it would be.

He might be good actually; he's not THAT great an actor, a little bit of a plank, which I think fits Bond quite well.

His Assassins Creed films were utter bollocks but he was good in 12 Years a Slave, the Alien reboots and even X-Men. He has that slightly cold edge that Bond requires.

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 11:23

Agree with this but I don't think he's all that good in 12 Years a Slave or X-Men. Or the Steve McQueen films he did, or Jane Eyre, or Macbeth. He's quite good in Fish Tank but I suspect that's his 'metier'; he seemed very comfortable in it, like it came naturally.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/09/2020 15:42

John Boyega is massively too famous (and too good an actor). I struggle with Fassbender after hearing a few things about him and his girlfriend. Tom Burke might be great. He's definitely charming enough.

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 16:08

Ooh, what about Fassbender and his girlfriend? [agog]

campista · 23/09/2020 16:56

Read to page 4 and began to think Tom Burke, then ff to the end and see there are like minds!

Have a google of 'Fassbender' and 'abuse'. Not nice reading.
IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 17:23

Christ, yes, I see what you mean.

Well, I haven't thought much of him ever since he was interviewed by Miss Piggy and was just not getting it/not playing/maybe both.
I'm only being ever so slightly facetious about that; I think that kind of thing is quite revealing.

ILoveYou3000 · 23/09/2020 17:24

Never been proven. There's witnesses that saw them the night it allegedly happened, after the fact, and the ex had no visible injuries (broken nose claimed). I believe there are also photos of them the day after the alleged incident and she has no sign of any injury. She also claimed the same of a previous boyfriend.

ILoveYou3000 · 23/09/2020 17:31

Did you watch a different interview to the one I've seen? He's laughing and playing along quite happily.

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 17:41

Maybe. I remember him not hearing and asking her to repeat things all the time, which ruins the timing and the mood.

Tom Hiddleston OTOH looks quite overcome Grin and Daniel Radcliffe gushes with excitement. And Gary Oldman plays it completely straight and it's hilarious.

RaspberrySkies · 25/09/2020 06:02

I'm good with Tom thanks 😍

RaspberrySkies · 25/09/2020 06:03

Hardy that is!
