To say that Tom Hardy as James Bond is all wrong

I just cannot get my head around him being the new James Bond. He just isn’t that. I know exactly what he will do to James Bond and if I know that already, why would I want to see the movie?
Please give us someone else. 😖

More posh white men in film just what everyone needs!

Flirtydove · 20/09/2020 18:21

I also think James Norton would make an excellent Bond

bringbackfonzi · 20/09/2020 18:25

Thank you flirtydove. Why aren't there more of us??!!

QuestionableMouse · 20/09/2020 18:31

He's American but I always thought Jensen Ackles would be interesting as Bond. He has great comedic timing but can do the action stuff really well too.

shartsi · 20/09/2020 18:32

Definitely Sam Heughan. He has said repeatedly that he is not gay, wonder why people think he is closeted. Who cares anyway?
Tom Hardy is too short.

But the character is a posh white man.
IncandescentSilver · 20/09/2020 18:37

The producers seem to be going for a stereotyped "rough British made good" vibe with Tom Hardy here.

I find that a bit boring. Almost won't watch it.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 20/09/2020 18:51

He looks a lot like Daniel Craig doesn't he. To be fair I thought DC would be awful but he was really good. I think Henry Cavill would have been awesome but I've thought that since the Tudors. I wonder though is he's a bit too distinctive with his height and presence to be a secret agent. Although when that ever bothered the Bond producers...Tom Hardy jsut feels to famous already though?

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 20/09/2020 18:54

I suspected Tom Hardy might have gone to a posh school too and I was right, his father was a screenwriter and playwright. So the bit of rough thing must be a persona. I think he'll be fine as JB.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 20/09/2020 18:55

I should really RTFT sorry 😐

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 20/09/2020 18:58

Ugh I hope he's not

Whoever next! Jason Statham?

thedevilinablackdress · 20/09/2020 19:08

James Bond may be the quintessential Englishman to some... But he's not really English. Scottish Dad, Swiss Mum. (WHY do I know this!!?) And did you not see the family home in Spectre?
Anyway, that doesn't affect my casting choice - James Norton for me please.

IcedPurple · 20/09/2020 19:13

Oh but there are!

James Norton is tall, yummy, posh and a good actor. He's also the right age - most of the people being suggested, incl Tom Hardy, are too old - and not so well-known or type cast that he'd bring a lot of 'baggage' to the role.

And he's even called James! He was practically born to play the role!

LakieLady · 20/09/2020 19:17

James Bond is meant to be a well educated Englishman - not saying Tom Hardy isn’t but he always brings a working class ‘bitta rough’ to roles

He's an excellent actor, so I' m sure he can do "posh".

I think it's a waste of a great actor though. And if he does it, I hope he's not tied in for several films, like Bond actors usually are.

After all, who'll play Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders if Hardy is busy being Bond? Grin

LakieLady · 20/09/2020 19:21

I also think James Norton would make an excellent Bond

He'd be very good, but I think he may not want to be tied in for several films.

Aidan Turner would be good, and would bring something rather different to the role imo.

CherryBlossomPink · 20/09/2020 19:22

Tom Ellis for me - probably the only way I’ll go to watch a Bond movie 😂

Pellewsmate · 20/09/2020 19:23

Luke Evans or Nicholas Hoult.
For all those defending TH, this is the moment that lost him JB. Thank God.

Jensen Ackles as Bond will be magical if he pulls off the accent. I strongly suspect that he cannot.

A white posh man thing is an issue, yes. I don’t know the solution though. A new book? Or may be just ditch the idea of a non-white, male Bond? I don’t know. My first choice was always Idris Elba but he is now too old for Bond. Daniel Craig shouldn’t have happened. Elba should have. But we can’t change that now.

Ah yes, the summer of Hiddlesswift... what fun that was!
DangerMouse17 · 20/09/2020 19:29

It should be Theo James

Redcups64 · 20/09/2020 19:30

He is good looking but other than that he is a great actor! His done so many varied roles too, he is perfect!

Redcups64 · 20/09/2020 19:30

I take it back and second Theo James Grin

SBTLove · 20/09/2020 19:31

Tbf apart from Daniel Craig other Binds weren’t exactly stellar actors. I’d be surprised at Hardy accepting it, he has a good career on the rise and this is very restrictive.
I agree regards his mumbling 🙄
