To say that Tom Hardy as James Bond is all wrong

I just cannot get my head around him being the new James Bond. He just isn’t that. I know exactly what he will do to James Bond and if I know that already, why would I want to see the movie?
Please give us someone else. 😖

@GuyFawkesDay

Bond is 183cm tall according to the books

So not that tall.....but that's based on 1940s averages, so realistically based on the fact everyone is a bit taller these days he'd be a over 6ft.

So much this. Has to be someone TALL. James Bond isn't a tiddly little short arse.

Tom Hardy is only 5'9!

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 15:37

I think it should be Fiona Shaw.

Failing that, I've thought for years Paul Bettany would be good. I think he's mid/late forties now so POSSIBLY a bit old, but probably OK.
He looks good in a suit

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/09/2020 15:49

I love Paul Bettany but he's 49. Much too old.

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 16:16

TBF Daniel Craig is 52. I know he was younger when he started as Bond, but in Spectre he'd have been about 47 and looks older and more haggard than Bettany

DrDetriment · 22/09/2020 16:17

How on earth is 49 much too old? Bond is an experienced spy, not some hot young flighty thing.

Totickleamockingbird · 22/09/2020 16:18

@Nikori

It's all rumours though. I heard Daniel Craig likes to do this to negotiate a pay raise. Lots of names will get thrown around and then it will be decided that he will stay for one more movie after all. It's also free publicity for the next movie.
That is really not on. I am quite tired of Daniel Craig.

Well, in the books it's mentioned that Bond is 8 years younger than the mandatory retirement age of 45.

But even if we agree that the films have departed somewhat from the books, 49 is way too old to start out as Bond. There won't be another film for at least 3 or 4 more years, which would mean an actor who is 49 now will be in his early 50s by the time of his first film. And they will want to hire an actor who can play the role for several films, so no way they're going to give the role to an actor already pushing 50. He'd be old enough for his bus pass by the time he was done!

There are tons of younger actors out there who would be good for the role, so why give it to someone who's clearly too old?

Daniel Craig is 52 at the end of his Bond career. Paul Bettany would be 52 at the start of his.
IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 16:32

Yes I know, Iced, I did caveat what I said. You seem quite het up about it.

At the younger end, Daniel Kaluuya would be good. Dapper, good screen presence, but humour and a 'twinkle' as well.

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 16:35

Sorry, Taboo, I've just seen that you mentioned him already.

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 16:35

I mean PigWhisperer Confused Long day...

Upherefordancing · 22/09/2020 16:42

I haven't RTFT yet, so this may have been mentioned already, but surely this is still just rumour - it was originally reported on an obscure Star Trek blog and then started to get picked up by other media.

Also, to those saying TH isn't refined enough, wasn't Sean Connery a milkman and male beauty contestant before he was cast as Bond?Hmm

HalloumiFries · 22/09/2020 16:44

I'm sure I reads something recently which said that the Broccoli family (always love the image that conjures) insist on a new Bond being between 35-45. I can't find the source now though.

I love Tom Hardy. Absolutely adore him. He's not Bond though and I've surprised myself with the strength of feeling I have about this. I just cannot see him doing the Bond Girl romance thing. And he is too short.

A younger Paul Bettany would have been a great shout though - have never thought of him in the role before. I always fancied Hugh Dancy as Bond but he'll be too old now too.

Before the Tom Hardy announcement, which isn't yet fully confirmed but seems to have come from reputable sources, I really wanted to see David Olewayo get the role and I'm still holding onto some hope there.

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 16:50

Oh yes, David Oyelowo would be good!

TheSpottedZebra · 22/09/2020 17:30

David Oyelowo looks like he cries after sex. He is no Bond.

DarlingCoffee · 22/09/2020 17:44

I would still love to see Idris Elba as Bond

GrouchyKiwi · 22/09/2020 18:12

Grin Spotted

adawong · 22/09/2020 18:13

Idris Elba is too old and a shit actor
David Oyelowo is a short arse.
Daniel Craig will do one more after that who knows.

Jellykat · 22/09/2020 18:19

Well apparently Daniel Craig is only 5ft 10, so only an inch taller then Tom..

I think Tom would be excellent, hes a sexy beast

Mytholmroyd · 22/09/2020 19:26

Too bad - would have gone to see it if Sam Heughan got the role but not much interested otherwise. He is stunning on screen.
A poster above (sorry cannot remember your name) said he was too fey - have you seen him in season 1/3 of Outlander? He could easily play a suave but tough guy spy with class - I really rate him as an actor - huge range and a bit of a chameleon. AND he does the best sex scenes I have EVER seen!

Mytholmroyd · 22/09/2020 19:27

And he is 6'3" Grin

AuntyPasta · 22/09/2020 20:27

A little invested there Mytholmroyd Grin

TheSpottedZebra · 22/09/2020 20:45

It was me who called him fey.
And I stand by it Grin

Spanglybangles · 22/09/2020 21:09

I’m ok with Tom Hardy for the role, but my personal choice is definitely James Norton, he would be great and is rather attractive Grin

Mytholmroyd · 22/09/2020 21:53

Sorry thespottedzebra am on my phone and it was difficult to scroll back up! Well, if that is fey count me in! I don't think James Bond was ever meant to be rough and ready type though.

Guilty as charged Auntypasta Wink
