This morning at the petrol station she was in the shop with her husband, they walked round several of the aisles without buying anything and then she went with him to pay for the petrol, he was wearing a mask and she didn't. He paid for the petrol and they didn't buy anything else.

She should have waited in the car, there was no reason for them both to be in the shop Angry

Get over it.

Cadent · 21/09/2020 14:42

If someone is truly exempt, I’m sorry but in the current climate it’s probably advisable to not be indoors in a public place unless they have no other choice. For their own protection as much as the risk to others.

You should be sorry, that’s a disgusting attitude. People who are exempt have just as much right to shopping as you. You stay home if they bother you.

Goldenskies · 21/09/2020 14:52

YABU.

She could have been looking for anything from tampons to food specific to her dietary requirements or she could have just wanted to browse. She doesn’t have to explain herself to anybody. If you were worried about the space inside then you could always stand outside until she’s gone.

ticktackted · 21/09/2020 17:46

I know someone with young onset dementia. You'd never know to look at her, she looks like any healthy middle aged woman. Her husband can't leave her at home, he can't leave her in the car (she may wander), she won't wear a mask, she would have to go into shops with him & she wouldn't buy anything herself. They effectively don't go anywhere now because of people like you. She is declining faster for the lack of normality and any stimulation. Many, many people have other challenges you can't see. Be thankful your life is so easy you can assume you know everyone about someone else's, and if you can't learn to live with other people through this, go to petrol stations where you can pay at pump and get your shopping delivered.

That’s a little bit OTT don’t you think? She hardly named the woman or stated her location!

I’ve been out shopping into our town this morning, to 3 shops and a supermarket. Have seen a large number of people all doing the same, all different ages, ethnicities, some disabled, some able bodied. They were ALL wearing masks, I didn’t see one without. I’m sure that plenty had medical conditions but they all seemed to be managing just fine.

I’ve also been into my work, at a hospital. Lots of people waiting for tests and investigations, probably with varying medical histories. ALL wearing masks.

If someone is truly exempt, I’m sorry but in the current climate it’s probably advisable to not be indoors in a public place unless they have no other choice. For their own protection as much as the risk to others.[/quote]
so the vulnerable should stay at home??? What if they have to go to work? Hospital appointments?

“so the vulnerable should stay at home??? What if they have to go to work? Hospital appointments?”

Well obviously not, as if you read my post you’d have seen that there were numerous people of all ages, disabilities etc wearing masks with no problems. And obviously if you have an absolute need to go out, and you can’t wear one for 5-10 mins then that’s fine. But probably advisable to stay outdoors as much as possible due to the risk to them.

In lockdown people were banned from going into shops in pairs if you remember, except single parents with small kids. We are heading back to that I’m afraid.

Ps. With hospital appointments we are keeping the vulnerable and high risk patients out of hospital as much as we can at the moment, and doing virtual appointments where possible. Again this is to minimise the risk to them.

If this were back in April or May, I know for certain all these people telling you YABU and practically berating you for feeling as you did on this occasion, would be answering very different

Why? There was no requirement to wear masks then.

Kate139 · 22/09/2020 10:18

YABU. It's quite sad to read this and think this is how you are going about your life at the moment...judging others. The lady could have a condition that means she can't wear a face mask. Maybe she was looking for something in the shop and couldn't find it..please stop judging...It's not good for you. This pandemic has really brought out a lot of division between people.

Bl3ss3dm0m · 22/09/2020 11:03

OP if you had posted this 5 months ago everyone would have agreed with you, but unfortunately you had the temerity to post it now, when too many people are so fed up that they don't care about other people's health anymore.

No they wouldn’t.
birthdaybelle · 22/09/2020 12:03

Maybe she had her period and couldn't describe to her husband what she needed. Maybe she has mental health issues and has been advised to try to get out for small tasks like popping to a shop but can't wear a mask. Maybe her husband isn't able to be out on his own and needs her with him but she isn't able to wear a mask. Maybe they're just selfish twats. Who knows? Who cares?

Tootletum · 22/09/2020 12:05

This attitude depresses me far more than anything else. How is everyone with no scientific knowledge suddenly so sure that a mask is the golden ticket? What matters is testing and isolation.

I really don't understand this. There were no rules or guidance about wearing masks then, in my experience the majority of people weren't wearing them. If OP had posted this five months ago people would have thought she was bonkers.

This sums up what I am struggling to put into words without descending into a rant. So thank you.

To the OP - Mind your own business

Ori32 · 22/09/2020 12:45

I think you need better things to occupy your day. You're clearly bored.

Bl3ss3dm0m · 23/09/2020 12:37

Sorry to both pp's for not making myself entirely clear. I meant the attitude at the time was that anyone who did anything even slightly against the lockdown rules was considered a pariah. They were vilified, and called some awful names.
Nearly all of us at that time were terrified of this virus, the OP is obviously still very worried, and it might have affected her MH. I know that I have become far too judgemental and short tempered over the last few months, so I am trying to see both sides of any story, and I am also trying to just be nicer.
