to think that this woman was very selfish

This morning at the petrol station she was in the shop with her husband, they walked round several of the aisles without buying anything and then she went with him to pay for the petrol, he was wearing a mask and she didn't. He paid for the petrol and they didn't buy anything else.

She should have waited in the car, there was no reason for them both to be in the shop Angry

Pobblebonk · 20/09/2020 00:23

OK, assuming she had a reason. I do not think there was any valid reason. Wanting to go in the small petrol station shop is not a valid reason.

It is, actually, Because the law says people are allowed in shops without masks if they are exempt.

notangelinajolie · 20/09/2020 00:25

Yes very selfish. If she couldn't wear a mask then she should have stayed in the car,

Pobblebonk · 20/09/2020 00:27

She didn’t snitch to anyone, she didn’t mentioned any names, she didn’t phone the police and she didn’t speak directly to the couple involved. She simply asked a question on a forum.

Well, no, she has done a lot more than that, hasn't she? She's claimed that the woman was selfish and could have infected her, and has repeatedly said that this woman could have had no reason to go into the shop and shouldn't have been there - even though the chances are that she is exempt and was acting perfectly lawfully.

From that yourself and other posters have leapt to mentioning the Nazis and dictorial states.

Demonising people, including disabled people, for being different is certainly a fairly typical tactic on the part of fascist states.

BetterCare · 20/09/2020 00:28

@Havaiana it wasn’t @happythankyoumoreplease it was me that said that.

My point is OP simply asked if anyone else thought this woman was being selfish in her actions.

She hasn’t videoed anyone, she didn’t call anyone a name she asked if her actions were selfish.

So far she has been called a bitch, a stasi and Nazi Germany and dictorial states have been mentioned.

All these people that have responded to her in such an appalling way need to take into account she just asked a question.

simitra · 20/09/2020 00:29

"that's what we should all be doing."

You sound like the kind of rule Nazi who would snitch on her neighbours for breaking the rule of six or hugging their grandchild. There is a puerile arrogance about your tone like you feel you are entitled to interpret the rules for everyone else.

I am mask exempt and I can tell you that if any little twat who isn't a police officer, government official or doctor (with ID to prove it ) has the temerity to question me about my health issues they will get such a tongue lashing they will wish they never opened their mouth.

Barrowmanfan22 · 20/09/2020 00:32

@notangelinajolie

Yes very selfish. If she couldn't wear a mask then she should have stayed in the car,
Why?

Are you aware of this woman's life and medical history and know it was safe for her to stay alone in the car ?

If not , why are you judging?

Did I say I had questioned her?

No but you judged her and posted about her on a public forum ?

elenacampana · 20/09/2020 00:41

Behave OP - you don’t know her and saw her once so you have no idea of her reasoning. This kind of picky, bitchy, judgmental attitude isn’t what anyone needs.

You’ve said you ‘find it hard’ to wear a mask rather than you are exempt and by the sounds of it, you don’t wear a mask either so I’m really not sure why you think you’re in a position to comment on this woman. Unless the tap is about to start dripping, you don’t wear a mask because you don’t fancy it and that’s not a good reason either.

I find them hard to wear, but I wear them anyway because that is being truly responsible and considerate.

Kisskiss · 20/09/2020 02:29

Because there’s probably quite a few people wearing it because they can’t be bothered/ don’t think it’s necessary. Let’s just say there a number of Asian Countries where many many more people are walking around in masks. I don’t believe the incidence of health issues that prevents mask wearing is skewed so much higher in the UK...

froggygoneacourting · 20/09/2020 02:29

I bet half the posters who are in uproar are the loons who believe Covid is a hoax designed to spread 5G and force us to wear “muzzles” as part of some NWO mind control. There are loads of far right wing conspiracy theorists on MN ranting about muzzles and claiming COVID doesn’t exist or isn’t a big deal.

In the real world everyone acknowledges that some people behave like selfish, thoughtless arseholes. There’s literally no reason someone needs to go into a petrol station when they aren’t buying petrol or anything else. It’s not exactly some big mystery what petrol stations sell. If she wanted chocolate or something her husband could have got it for her. Until recently most supermarkets and other shops banned more than one person per family.

I’ve spent a lot of time defending those who are mask-exempt but This thread is ridiculous.

Kisskiss · 20/09/2020 02:30

People *not wearing

ArranBound · 20/09/2020 02:32

Are you a Covid Marshall, OP?

YABU to be that bothered. Maybe they didn't have whatever she went into the station shop to look for?

Rtft abs you'll see I do wear a mask.

Behave ?! I'm not a child, is that the best you can come up with ?

And saying I think somebody is selfish is as bad as calling somebody a nazi? Are you always this punitive ?

Have you got your application form for a Covid Marshall position yet?

You sound like the ideal candidate.

tobedtoMNandfart · 20/09/2020 07:18

Here's an idea. Read the thread again but filter out everyone else's comments. Every post of yours is you arguing back against someone else. Is that what you came here for?...

I've not noticed any virus deniers on MN.

I have noticed a growing number of people who are advocating a proportionate response now we know more about it though. Proportionate doesn't include turning your neighbourhood into a mini police state full of snitches and haranguing people you who don't fit your extremely narrow definition of "non selfish".

MsTSwift · 20/09/2020 07:52

Also rather than frothing about it surely it’s quite easy to keep more that 2 metres away from this hardened criminal therefore protecting yourself?

Bluntness100 · 20/09/2020 08:07

I think the op has explained she suffers from anxiety, and I would assume that’s what’s behind her behaviour.

Op are you getting medical help for it?

Yes. Not helped by a bereavement this month.

OP sorry you are being given a hard time.

I agree with you, we are on the verge on a second lockdown, people need to take more care. If she was on her own and needed to do a grocery shop then find not to wear a mask if she can’t. But people that are exempt from wearing masks could show some more consideration by not making non essential visits into public places such as accompanying somebody else whilst they pay for petrol. Who does that anyway!

Lockheart · 20/09/2020 08:29

There are a lot of very unpleasant posters on this thread, but I'm not sure the OP is among them.
