To think that if you are high risk you should prob not be on the bus?

Prepared to get lynched here but i get the bus to hospital placement every day. There is a young man on bus who normally wears a mask. Today he wasn't. He forgot.
A woman on the bus kicked off at him massively as she has cancer. Yes i do sympathise with her but if I had cancer I wouldnt be travelling by bus. Id go to chemo by taxi. The risk is just too great atm.
He should have worn a mask but she should be protecting herself. My mum died of cancer so I know how hard it us.

Taxis are expensive, and chemo happens often. She may not be able to afford a taxi every time. A bus may be her only option.

RubyJack · 14/09/2020 07:16

Perhaps she can't afford to pay for taxis.

Flynn999 · 14/09/2020 07:16

If she’s on chemo, she’s probably on either a reduced income or benefits of some time. Not everyone can afford £20 for a taxi every day/second day.
I would also think a taxi is just as risky as a bus.

VashtaNerada · 14/09/2020 07:16

Taxis cost more OP Confused

Shoxfordian · 14/09/2020 07:17

Maybe she can't afford a taxi

listsandbudgets · 14/09/2020 07:17

You're assuming she can afford to go to chemo by taxi on top of all of her other living costs. Im sure she'd far prefer to go by taxi and is worried about needing to use public transport hence her reaction.

Your judgement didn't stretch as far as offering her the taxi fare home??

m0use · 14/09/2020 07:17

Are you volunteering to pay for her taxi?

icecreamconie · 14/09/2020 07:18

Jesus Christ - are you serious?

This persons travel arrangements are fuck all to do with you Hmm

DamitJanet · 14/09/2020 07:19

Maybe she can’t afford a taxi each and everytime she goes to hospital. She shouldn’t have kicked off, but as you say he usually wears a mask then he should have been wearing one. Most people have forgotten masks at some point by now but the responsible thing is to head back and get it.

luckylavender · 14/09/2020 07:19

I hope you understand now OP. Maybe it will teach you to be less judgemental.

AlexaShutUp · 14/09/2020 07:20

The lack of awareness that some people have is astonishing. Why do you assume that she can afford a taxi?!

TakeMe2Insanity · 14/09/2020 07:20

Taxis cost more. If there are LTNs around it might be quicker going by bus.

solidaritea · 14/09/2020 07:22

She shouldn't have kicked off.

But she also can use whatever transport method she can. If she could afford it, I'm sure she'd take a taxi.

Bagadverts · 14/09/2020 07:22

Or the young man could walk (no taxi without the mask).

Phoenix21 · 14/09/2020 07:22

I’m neutral. He should have been wearing a mask but I get that it’s easy to forget.

She must be scared but has every right to take the bus as it’s probably a necessity for her. She also should be able to rely on the rules being enforced.

How did he respond.

Soubriquet · 14/09/2020 07:22

A bus here to get me home from town centre is something like £4.00

A taxi is £15.00

Big difference there yes?

And chemo happens very often. It would soon add up

Persipan · 14/09/2020 07:23

Yeah, I would definitely make sure only to have cancer while sufficiently well off to be able to afford frequent taxis. Hmm

KatherineJaneway · 14/09/2020 07:23

He should have been wearing a mask. It's not as if he can forget there is a pandemic. Surely most people carry an extra disposable mask just in case.

She has every right to be on the bus. I presume she'd love to travel by taxi but can't afford it.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/09/2020 07:24

Jesus OP, you should be ashamed of yourself.

AuntieStella · 14/09/2020 07:24

To me 'high risk' is the person who is putting other people at risk.

Those with cancer are all covered by DDA and should never be kicked off buses

Like you, They knew that the person just 'forgot' their mask, no clash of competing disability requirements.

The person nit in the mask should not of been on the bus.

That's clear bothe from the rules, and from common sense as he was the one posing the rush (high or otherwise) to every other person

Sirzy · 14/09/2020 07:25

Surely the onus should have been on the man who forgot his mask to get off the bus until he has nipped to get a face covering rather than the woman travelling to the hospital to have to feel more at risk than she already does.

I would imagine if she had any realistic alternative she wouldn’t be using public transport

TheClaws · 14/09/2020 07:26

So vulnerable shouldn't ride buses now? Confused

TheClaws · 14/09/2020 07:27

*People

Emeraldshamrock · 14/09/2020 07:27

Yabu. How stressful for the lady.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/09/2020 07:27

What about people with cancer who carry on working and need to use public transport, do you expect them to use a taxi everyday?
