After years of infertility (involving surgery, TSI, chemical pregnancies and a clotting disorder) and IVF, we're having a baby. I'm 12 weeks tomorrow, we did NIPT and it all came back clear. And it's a boy! We're so, so thrilled. He has a beautiful heartbeat which I can hear on my doppler as well as having seen it on scans. He had the hiccups on the last scan, which was adorable.

Please indulge me and tell me lovely things about your little boys. (We'd have been just as happy with a girl. It just makes it feel so much more real to know that he is a he, if that makes sense.)

My DS6 offered his apple to his his school friend at lunch on a Friday as apparently friend had forgotten his.

My DS4 has just started reception and looks super cute in his uniform (he is tiny so even the smallest size is big)

Thanks everyone. I still can't believe he's real and I'm actually growing a human in my uterus! Can't wait until he's ready and we can give him cuddles.

(I also love being right. DH thought it was a girl. I've been convinced from the day we got a positive pregnancy test that he was a boy.)

It is just an odd question to me. They are still human you know... boys?!

Op is a woman. Baby is a boy . Even though they dont have the same sex organs doesnt mean he is so different to her that she needs to ask "tell me what is so wonderful about your boys" like she wouldn't know what to expect. It is just a baby. With a penis. But still very much just a tiny little human.

So yeah it is odd to me.

ValidUser · 13/09/2020 16:08

That's ok, @Yeahnahmum. We all think differently. I'm more than happy to hear nice stories about girls too!

And I'm not too bothered about the state of his genitalia. It's more like my birthday is coming and I'm getting a pizza so I'm asking about other people's experiences with pizza so I can think about my birthday pizza. Pasta would be lovely too. Not entirely different. But I still want to imagine my little pizza.

Perfect response op 😁 💖
Sorry just because it is odd to me doesnt make it an invalid questions for you. Happy pregnancy. X

The major difference between boys and girls as babies tbf is make sure you have a bit of terry towelling or a muslin cloth ready when you take their nappy off because they will see this as a cue to piss all over themselves, and you, like an unmanned hose pipe full of wee. Grin

tsmainsqueeze · 13/09/2020 16:22

I had 2 , young men now , gorgeous , golden haired , angels with blue eyes, loved being munched , cuddled , kissed ,being read to , loved nature , i could go on and on .
I have a girl too , equally gorgeous but looking back i think my boys were cuddlier and needed me more .
Lucky you ! you will be totally in love the second that little boy is in your arms .

RhubarbAndMustard · 13/09/2020 16:25

My youngest DS is now 4. He tells me nearly every day that I'm 'soooo beautiful'. He's a little charmer.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/09/2020 16:35

Oh how lovely for you, how very lovely.
I don’t have a boy (just the one ever growing, slightly mardy 16 year old girl).
But just wanted to say what lovely news for you.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 13/09/2020 16:38

Congratulations OP!

My boy is now 15, taller than me, has massive feet, his face changes by the day, and he has questionable taste in clothes in haircuts and clothes, but... he's still that little tiny blob I saw moving about on a screen at 12 weeks. He is the gentlest, softest, kindest and most tactile person I've ever met. He still leans his head against my shoulder for comfort (although he sort of has to bob at the knees because he's nearly a foot taller than I am now)

He can also be the laziest, most selfish and annoying little bugger in the world. But he's never stopped smiling. When he was about nine months old we were in the GP waiting room and he heard someone laugh. He turned to look at them and instinctively giggled back. He just assumed that if there was happiness in the world, it involved him (I've had to correct him on this in subsequent years).

Desperado40 · 13/09/2020 16:40

My DS is 6. He is the kindest, gentlest little soul I’ve known. Congratulations on your pregnancy. My boy is lovely and sweet and I would not change a thing about him.

Holdmysandwichplease · 13/09/2020 16:53

My boy is 15 months. He is an absolute terror for exploring and taking things apart 😑 he loves pulling all his toys out and making a mess and frequently burps and laughs. However I find all of this somewhat amusing and highly endearing! I love stroking his little curls when he sleeps and snuggling in with him. Sometimes I like to give him big cuddles and imagine what he will be like when he is a fully grown man. I even love his little sweaty smell when he wakes up from his naps.

Like you we didn't have an easy journey to finally meet him but we did and I could burst with the amount of love we feel for him.

Totally unmumsnetty gush from me here but I don't care ! He is bloody amazing !!

Oldbagface · 13/09/2020 16:58

I have girls and a boy. DS is the easiest and always has been. Good as gold. The girls however, while being older have caused be some sleepless nights.

I think boys are much more easy going.

Mammyloveswine · 13/09/2020 17:08

Ah congratulations! I have two boys and they are total mammys boys! So loving and caring! They are funny and find pumping and poo hilarious!

I love the bones of them! They are very different but both very special!

Speminalium · 13/09/2020 17:09

My boy was the most cuddly baby ever, all blonde and round and we used to spend hours on the sofa cuddling and laughing at nothing. Pure joy. He's 9 now and regularly blows my mind with his deeply intelligent and perceptive take on the world, his incredible wisdom, his strong sense of justice, the power of the music in his bones. He also drives me and his teachers up the wall because the world in his head is much more interesting than real life. He has a calm and peace in his soul I learn a lot from. Congratulations OP, what joyous news!

Speminalium · 13/09/2020 17:10

And what I learnt about boys. If he's eating, he's happy. If in doubt, feed him!

Mammyloveswine · 13/09/2020 17:11

Oh and my eldest tells me every day "mammy you're my best friend!" And clambers into bed with me
"For snuggles". He's almost 5 🎅

Sophoa · 13/09/2020 17:22

There are no words to describe how great my boys are. They’re amazing in every single way. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to be a mum to boys. I have a girl too, I “get” girls. Boys were new to me and I wouldn’t change it for the world

Misbeehived · 13/09/2020 17:47

My son is wonderful and there is no one is this world I love more - it shocks me sometimes how overwhelming the love is. He is kind, funny creative, intelligent, curious, stunningly beautiful. He is 100% built from slugs and snails and puppy dog tails (or more accurately monsters, Pokemon, minecraft, dinosaurs and ninjas). He is fabulous company sensitive, caring and since has the most excellent manners. I have loved getting to know him and watch him grow and change. Every stage has been lovely.

I say this as although all I wanted was a healthy baby I’d always imagined myself with a girl like me.

I wish you every happiness with your pregnancy and family life with your beautiful baby boy.

nokidshere · 13/09/2020 17:48

I'm not an emotional person really but reading that brought a tear to my eye and took me right back to my first scan. Congratulations.

My "ivf didn't work/nor did anything else/go home we can't help you anymore/15 yrs of heartache" boys are now 19 and 21 and I still remember the shock and elation (and horror for a few mins) of finding out I was pregnant and then seeing the scans.

My boys are, and were always, amazing. Funny, kind, lovely, messy, noisy, a real joy to be around even, or probably more so, as teenagers.

I wish you well. Enjoy.

LolaSmiles · 13/09/2020 17:50

I love the way my son tries to climb things but stops, looks at me and smiles before trying again.

Soundbyte · 13/09/2020 18:17

I’ve already replied to this thread but I’m sat here cuddling my sleeping baby and I realised I forgot to mention how wonderful they smell 🥰

Soundbyte · 13/09/2020 18:19

Also all of my kids have inherited my dimples, but the baby has like three different lots.. think Jennifer Lawrence... when he breaks out a smile his face goes batshit crazy with dimples, it’s adorable 😂

morefun · 13/09/2020 18:24

My 3 year old son is so loving and lively. He tells me about his dreams when he wakes up and notices when I change my hair or clothing. He has a brilliant sense of humour.
