AIBU?

To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

To be honest I think it will be alright because she will only be a baby for now so by the time she's even 3 years though or going to nursery I'm sure it will already have cal m down so only people may say things to you and DH rather than anything to her probably which isn't so bad if they do

@Whitbylover

I like the name Cove , I did not immediately think of Covid . Go with what you like ... there are plenty of nouns which have become names like Fern, River , Reef, Pearl , Star etc . In today’s society there is such a mixture of modern and traditional names, I really don’t think it matters.

Reef?! Nope, not a name I've heard. Another ridiculous one.

It makes me think of cloves. Actually OP, Clover is a lovely name and has the advantage of being an actual name too and you could still call her Cove for short if you wanted to.

What a nasty, mean spirited comment to make when someone has just had a baby.

I don't think you are being unkind at all but I do not believe the op would have called her daughter, 'Cove'. It's too ridiculous and not because of Covid. As a name it usually refers to a man.

Let us hope little Cove does not end up being the manager of a sheep station in Australia or a rum cove; she may well be an old cove one day.

Should have double barrelled... "Cove-Ida Smith"?

Congrats on baby Cove. I actually quite like the name x

I love it, congratulations!

It’s a lovely sounding word, with a lovely meaning, to me it evokes a quiet, peaceful, very small secluded beach, with cliffs around it and the sea lapping.

Never heard of the other connotations mentioned above, and to me it’s definitely a feminine sounding name.

This thread is a wind up, nobody would seriously call their child 'Cove'.

But some are allowed to call their children 'poppy' or 'willow' or 'ivy' and no one bats an eyelid?

That's getting old now Confused
I don't get the need to be unkind at the expense of someone else? I mean seriously there's enough shit going on in the world, I don't think your nastiness is necessary. But I guess if you have nothing better to do and this is what keeps you happy 👍 - go ahead.
