To call my baby this

m0mmy2be · 12/09/2020 08:29

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

My mum had a King Charles spaniel called Cleo.

A child's name is usually the same for life. It belongs to the child, not the parents (or anyone else). Think EXTREMELY carefully before naming a child, as a name may lead to bullying, teasing. etc.

THEDEACON · 14/09/2020 01:20

Ridiculous idea

momtoboys · 14/09/2020 03:17

I think it’s a beautiful name (and one I haven’t heard before) but I really do think it will make everyone think of the pandemic!

Imworthit · 14/09/2020 03:27

But she's not gonna be a baby forever. In a few years there will be a new joke/drama. Call her what you like

kimmsutt · 14/09/2020 06:52

I think it’s a beautiful name (I’m thinking sandy beach cove?!) but maybe call her it officially but immediately use another name (equivalent Teddy/Edward; Bella/Isabella) as a diminutive for now, just to avoid the 3000 sarky comments. Then she can choose?

Petlover9 · 14/09/2020 07:55

@Catra. Totally agree with you . Pity the child if this is real, lumbered for life with a joke name

CourtneyB123 · 14/09/2020 08:02

How about just call your child what you want, you don't need the acceptance of others especially online.

Whitbylover · 14/09/2020 09:07

I like the name Cove , I did not immediately think of Covid . Go with what you like ... there are plenty of nouns which have become names like Fern, River , Reef, Pearl , Star etc . In today’s society there is such a mixture of modern and traditional names, I really don’t think it matters.

Weave · 14/09/2020 09:29

I think it has a nice soft sound, although it did immediately make me think of Julie Burchill describing herself as a “cheery old cove”.

Samlew89 · 14/09/2020 09:38

I personally love the name. And since your daughter will only be born now the pandemic won't be an issue by the time she is in school and old enough to be teased. Name your child what you want to. Kids will find a way to tease each other anyway.

di2004 · 14/09/2020 11:09

There’s loads of lovely girls names .. but I personally wouldn’t choose Cove.
Obviously it’s your decision so you have to make sure it’s right for her.

Littlemissdaredevil · 14/09/2020 11:21

Maybe she will use the nickname CiCi at school?

ProfessionalWeirdo · 14/09/2020 12:33

I haven't RTFT so apologies if this has already been said, but apart from its meaning of "bay" or "beach", I've only ever heard "cove" used in the context of "old cove", which means much the same as "old codger". In which case, even without the additional associations with Covid, I wouldn't use it.

boxtysandwich · 14/09/2020 12:49

Have you considered "Chap" instead?

pigsDOfly · 14/09/2020 12:50

Yes, over the 19 pages of this thread it's been said many, many times.

pigsDOfly · 14/09/2020 12:51

Oops, too much quoting in my last post.

DavesSecondWife · 14/09/2020 13:11

And all of a sudden the baby was here with a ready made sign 😂 Such a wind up but quite glad because it’s a stupid name!

pigsDOfly · 14/09/2020 14:31

Well, as I, and another poster said, that sign actually says 'love' it's a lowercase 'l' not a capital 'C'.

Of course it's a wind up and yes it's a stupid name.

Petlover9 · 14/09/2020 14:53

@pigsDOfly. - agree, I wondered if the whole thread was a wind up - surely it must be?

ShebaShimmyShake · 14/09/2020 15:07

Yes, but at 19 pages, it was a good one. I don't really mind when it's something harmless like this.

Heyyyyhey91 · 14/09/2020 18:13

I won’t lie to you it’s an extremely odd name and sounds like something a beach house would be named after. Maybe that could be your daughters middle name. On a great note congratulations on the pregnancy! Also I wouldn’t associate it with Covid but you might get a few ofd smiles when you register your daughter

Partayyyyy · 14/09/2020 18:57

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅

ColdCottage · 14/09/2020 19:35

I think it's fine.

VerbenaGirl · 14/09/2020 19:39

The middle name suggestion is a good idea.
