To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

Daft choice of name pre Covid. Now she just sounds like a pandemic baby of parents trying too hard to be 'quirky'. Looks just like Love on the sign. Ho hum.

m0mmy2be · 13/09/2020 20:34

@saffy2 Thank you, means a lot. If you do end up with another, let me know, I'm yet to meet another although I have seen lots on Instagram, there's a beautiful little girl on Instagram called Cove Ferris Halo

Sounds like a nickname for vulva.

Not trying to be quirky by any means, I just didn't particularly find any 'traditional' names that I really loved.

God please please don’t call your child Cove during a global pandemic

I completely agree you should call your child whatever you like but I really do think you’ll live to regret it in the future

Justgorgeous · 13/09/2020 20:46

Yikes, no !

Callingallskeletons · 13/09/2020 20:47

I’m sorry it’s worked out like this though, We had agreed on a name for DD long before but a film was released not long before my due date and suddenly the name was EVERYWHERE and linked to a particularly crappy film 🤦🏻‍♀️

Khadernawazkhan · 13/09/2020 20:48

Please choose something sensible or traditional. She will thank you dearly for it.

Namechange8471 · 13/09/2020 20:49

You’re not a terrible mum but what the fuck op...

Plus the sign looks like it says ‘love’.

Hopefully you come to your senses before you register the baby’s name...

mrsmummy1111 · 13/09/2020 20:49

Oh this makes me so so sad. I'm VERY MUCH in the camp of "you do you" but there's a limit. Naming a child after a pandemic, even unintentionally, is unforgivable.

Starksforthewin · 13/09/2020 20:50

I call bullshit.

No one could be this daft.

Megan2018 · 13/09/2020 20:51

Bloody hell, poor child. That’s dreadful, really poor taste. Please change it!

Laaalaaaa · 13/09/2020 20:52

Were you on holiday in Aberdeen when she was conceived..?

shesgonebatshitagain · 13/09/2020 20:53

You are just trying to convince yourself I suspect

But congratulations on the birth of your daughter in any event.
The sign does look like you’ve called her Love which is infinitely preferable imo

DrSK2 · 13/09/2020 20:56

I really wouldn’t name her Cove. That will definitely hurt her as the virus will be around for long. Why not choosing another lovely name?

AdultierAdult · 13/09/2020 20:57

So within 36 hours of posting you’ve had the baby, procured an engraved sign, taken a fancy photo and logged onto Mumsnet to post Confused ok then.

Matildalamp · 13/09/2020 20:57

I know someone who had a baby a few months ago and, a boy, his name is Lockie Hmm

LouiseNW · 13/09/2020 20:58

DoubleDolphin

Silly name, especially now“

First bit, quite unnecessary.
Agree with the second bit though.

HmmGrey · 13/09/2020 21:09

Congratulations! Enjoy the baby bubble 🥰 I think you were right to go with your gut. Who cares about anyone else’s opinion?! You’ve had the name picked out for years. Wishing you a blissful time with your new little girl.

ALittleBitOfHappiness · 13/09/2020 21:11

Can I just ask, Covid aside, are names like Lily, Rose, Iris, Holly, Hazel, Willow, just as 'stupid' and terrible as Cove?

I get everyone's issue with the association with Covid, but the rest is surely just personal choice.

In my eyes, when kids will be old enough to judge her, there will be no association made between Cove and Coronavirus. The kids her age won't even remember it (hopefully it'll be forgotten by then) and when and if they eventually learn about the Coronavirus pandemic, coronavirus and Cove really don't sound too similar. Covid does but not something I really think you'd get teased about 'oh your name sounds like an illness'.. it's not like OP called her Vagina, now that would be something to be teased about.

I don't suppose little girls called Flo are teased because their name sounds like Flu, or Aiden doesn't get teased because his name slightly resembles AIDS?

RichPetunia · 13/09/2020 21:12

Cove - Covid, cough. Don’t do it.

SoManyActivities · 13/09/2020 21:16

So you have called her Cove then?

I'm sure this thread is a wind up!

MaryShelley1818 · 13/09/2020 21:26

I think it's a wind up too, I just genuinely don't believe anyone would be that stupid to saddle their apparently "loved child" with a name in the middle of a Pandemic that will be forever linked with death and suffering. What a horrible thing to do to a baby.

Completely agree!!! People are judgemental as crap, and also quite stupid. Lily is a flower. It was a flower before it was a name. Therefore once upon a time someone decided to name their girl after a flower. And now everyone does it and suddenly it’s a traditional and normal name. And bloody popular...not all of us want our kids to have the same name as half their class 🙄 individuality counts for a lot. My name is unusual, I’ve only ever met one or two others, and it’s an object, not a name. Despite there being other similar objects which are acceptable names...think dandelion versus daisy. Both weeds but only one an acceptable name these days. It’s very silly that people have this mentality and it really does show people to be very judgemental and closed minded.

@Candyapple49

What about Haven . It has the same meaning and a similar soft sound .
@Candyapple49
