To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

A small sheltered bay- (by?) Lol if you love it, or it has personal meaning to you, you name your baby whatever makes you happy. By the time shes old enough to care (hopefully) covid will be such a well known word that it won't mean much at all, look at how many don't give a crap about it right now in the heat of it all! Not wearing masks and going about their every day as normal....
The one time folks might have a giggle is when Cove Is19.

OP

Unfortunate timing but your daughter, if already named would be teased rotten!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/09/2020 21:38

I think this has to be a spectacularly successful wind-up. No way anyone would actually do this this year, during this pandemic.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/09/2020 21:39

@AdultierAdult

So within 36 hours of posting you’ve had the baby, procured an engraved sign, taken a fancy photo and logged onto Mumsnet to post Confused ok then.
Also, this.

I asked dh what he thought of ut and he liked it and could not see the link to covid .

changerr · 13/09/2020 21:49

Love the name Cleo (short for her middle name, Cleopatra).

Cove ... sounds like what Jeeves would call a chap. Confused

RaspberrySkies · 13/09/2020 21:53

Erm no.

emptydreamer · 13/09/2020 21:53

I know several ladies called Aida, born at the height of AIDS pandemic, and I haven't heard from them - or anyone at all really - about similar associations. In my opinion, you are overthinking it. If you like the name, go for it.

killerofmen · 13/09/2020 22:04

Good job the shops are open again so OP could pop out to her local wood engraver less than 24 hours post partum.

Petlover9 · 13/09/2020 22:16

So many pretty girls names OP. Why make one up - since you asked I think it is awful. Please choose another one for the sake of your child.

Toooldforthisshit49 · 13/09/2020 22:19

First thought was that's what all the young boys in our area (NE Scotland) used to call their friends as in "all right cove" like mate or bud elsewhere but each to their own.

Her OP said that they had already decided to call her Cove BEFORE Covid became a massive thing. Possible she arranged it before? Hmm Or is that not possible for an excited mum-to-be to do?
Throckmorton · 13/09/2020 22:37

How about Cleo Patricia? Gets (almost) Cleopatra in there without actually saddling her with a mouthful of a name.

killerofmen · 13/09/2020 22:40

Covid has been a thing the whole time OP has been pregnant.

HolyForkinShirt · 13/09/2020 22:46

I'm not usually one for out there name - but Cove has a really lovely sound to it.

Having said that m, I think covid has ruined it, she will always be associated with it.

What about having Cove as a middle name ?

Buttercup54321 · 13/09/2020 23:03

Silly name. My grandad used to refer to other elderly men as coves.

Oh changerr, thought I was the only old relative left 😁

Covert20 · 13/09/2020 23:12

Ah well, there’s still time before you have to register to see sense!

StepAwayFromGoogle · 13/09/2020 23:14

Cove Confused CLEOPATRA Confused

For the love of god, OP, do not call your child this!!!

CorianderLord · 13/09/2020 23:26

Presumably you haven’t registered the name yet... perhaps Cove could be a middle name instead?

Firebird83 · 13/09/2020 23:59

Cleo Juniper would be nice

FOKKYFC · 14/09/2020 00:04

Oh, come on. Hideous and cruel? The 'cold sweat' emoji? I don't particularly like it either, and the OP sounds a bit 'woo', but talk about hyperbole . . .
Plenty of names are 'just words', or ordinary nouns. Lily. Dawn. Poppy. Christian. Mason. Willow. Ebony. Mark. Ruby. Scarlet. I've actually come to think that 'Cove' is ok over the course of this thread! 😂 Better than loads of the alternative suggestions. I'd rather have a kid called 'Cove' than 'Coral' or 'Marina' any day of the week.
