To call my baby this

So we decided this name in September 2017. We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.

Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.

We decided to call her Cove.

But now I'm worrying that it's too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.

I'm not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she'll be teased in future because of its association with Covid? Am I over thinking?

@pigsDOfly

Well, as I, and another poster said, that sign actually says 'love' it's a lowercase 'l' not a capital 'C'.

Of course it's a wind up and yes it's a stupid name.

@pigsDOfly I appreciate your concern, it is indeed a C and this is not a wind up of any sorts.

I'm not sure who has enough spare time to go out of their way to buy a little sign like the one I did, just to wind people up on the internet, but I certainly don't and haven't. For those of you who are concerned, the sign was purchased as soon as we found out we were having a little girl (by blood test, so earlier than normal scan) as we wanted to announce the name to family.

Im so glad I went with my initial choice, I know I would have regretted it if not.

Thanks again for all the opinions, I'm going to go and enjoy my baby now

Grin

There are YouTube stars (Aspyn and Parker) who called their little girl Cove @m0mmy2be. At least more unusual than Evelyn (pretty but a top 10 name for 2019). I doubt their peers will tease them for cove/covid as by the time they are old enough to bully I'd hope it isnt really a thing anymore

m0mmy2be · 14/09/2020 22:47

That's where I originally got my inspiration from 😁 @TheDaydreamBelievers

My head immediately went to Aspyn Ovard.

I wouldn’t have associated it with Covid until you said about it.

Just straight to Aspyn Ovard.

Which is fine, I guess, if that’s what you’re going for. That Mormon teen bride chic...

I think it works better as a middle name, tbh. Give her a real name as a first name, use Cove as a middle name, call her Cove as a child, then she’s still got the option of a proper name for use in adult life later on.

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/09/2020 22:59

It's a lovely word. But yeah, covid.

What about Dove?

emptyshelvesagain · 14/09/2020 23:01

I have not RTFT so forgive me if this has been mentioned (I tried but there are almost 500 post) I know of a you tuber who called their son Cove. It never crossed my mind once that it's similar to Covid

Lovely1a2b3c · 14/09/2020 23:07

Evelyn Cleo with Evie as a nickname sounds like a good idea OP.

ShinyMe · 15/09/2020 00:08

This is the second thread in a week where someone has had a question about a baby due "soon" and has coincidentally just quickly had it the next day.

emptyshelvesagain · 15/09/2020 00:42

Wait, you got the inspiration for the name from the YouTubers who's baby was born in 2019 but you decided on the name in 2017 Confused

Ha! good spot.
TakeItSIeazy · 15/09/2020 03:28

Well, Charlie Brooker*'s son was called Covey so...
Cove is a bit too smuggler-piratey for my liking but each to their own - if you did indeed even choose this and time travelled two years Tardis
*Their other one is Huxley Brooker-Huq which is awesome but good job double barrelled as Huxley Huq sounds a bit piratey too.

Im so glad I went with my initial choice, I know I would have regretted it if not.

Just be prepared for the fact that your baby might not be so glad you went with your initial choice and may very much regret that you did. Teenage children of a friend of mine have been very clear with her about how much they wish she hadn't given them the names she did (both a bit out of the ordinary but names, at least, rather than geographical features...) so do be prepared for that further down the line. It's the child who has to live with mum and dad's whimsical choice for the whole of their life, after all, which is why I think such choices can be so very selfish when it's all about the parents' feelings rather than an empathetic sense of how it might feel to be that child.

Yeah - the fact that this is clearly a wind-up is making me feel better!
Tooshytoshine · 15/09/2020 14:38

We always loved the name Isis for a girl. I am glad it was not the choice we made now...

Cove is lovely but the dates have conspired against you and it's not mean to be...

jessstan2 · 15/09/2020 17:14

Isis is an ancient Egyptian goddess of the moon, fertility, healing and magic. She is known as the essence of femininity and is exalted in her role as mother and wife. The regal name Isis also means “woman of the throne". Yes it is lovely - but not now so it's good you made the right choice.

No, 'Cove' is not lovely.

ddl1 · 15/09/2020 17:18

Isis is the name of a river local to me, and in the past some local businesses, etc. were named Isis after the river; as you can imagine, most of them have been renamed!

changerr · 15/09/2020 17:29

Just want to say this was one of the funniest threads on Mumsnet in months. Thank you everyone! Bear

Throckmorton · 15/09/2020 17:57

I'm bemused by how many people reckon no one will remember/know about covid a few years from now. We all know about the 1918 influenza and that was 100 years ago.

Mylittlelemon · 15/09/2020 18:38

The 'name' Cove reminds me of the scene in Little Britain when he asked for something a little less piratey. Also, Cove Cleopatra Grin I seriously hope this is a wind up!

queenMab99 · 15/09/2020 18:50

You never know with names, my son born in 1976 has the initials J.R. no problem in the 70s until the series Dallas was shown on tv J.R Ewing was the evil brother of the family, and my son was teased all through primary school.
Luckily he was a confident, articulate child and dealt with it well. But he did blame us!

jessstan2 · 16/09/2020 08:52

@ddl1

It also used to be an acronym for 'Independent schools' information service'; they now call themselves something else.
