Apparently there wasn't enough butter to make his sandwiches.

I'll attatch a photo, please do let me know what you think. I'm not taking him seriously, obviously.

When I said that there quite clearly is enough for two ham sandwiches he said "well I just like alot of butter" and chose to leave without any sandwiches at all and a face like a slapped arse.

I suspect he's got the ump about the fact that my DM had sandwiches here this afternoon and is blaming her for the lack of butter (I never use it)

So just for my amusement..

YABU - there isn't enough
YANBU - there's plenty

YANBU there is more than enough in that picture for four slices of bread, he's been a knob and gone hungry because of it.... maybe he'll get an extra one so it never happens again ...... but wait, that would involve him doing the shopping or taking responsibility for his own fuel intake.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 12/09/2020 08:04

There's barely enough spread for one sandwich, much less two.
Yes he can buy his own spread and he should, but right before work might not be feasible.

In his mind there was enough left, make his lunch/midnight snack ,go to work.

OH has his own lunch stuff and I don't use it or give it to guests because it's his. Especially not when he's nearly out.

Being pissy about it isn't necessarily a bad thing(I probably would be too if i had a plan in my head) , but there was no need to have a temper tantrum.

ClareBlue · 12/09/2020 08:05

I can't believe you left him without enough butter for his sandwich. It is literally one of the most important roles of being a wife and you've failed.
Not sure there is any coming back from this, but my advice would be to maybe create a big message in butter for when he comes home, saying how sorry you are.

You have no right to be forgiven for this but let's hope he loves you enough to get through it.

Good luck,

timeisnotaline · 12/09/2020 08:06

*It's probably not about the butter.

It always astounds me in these threads that people can o ly see a selfish lazy man having a tantrum What about a man who feels unloved generally, who's dreading going to work, who's worried about something else in his life?*
I think the op has said what it’s really about. It’s that her mum dared to visit and help her with the house and children as she’s hurt her leg. And she ate lunch while she was there helping.

Marmite27 · 12/09/2020 08:08

Im a butter monster, I like a bit of bread with my butter, but trees definitely enough for a couple of sarnies there Hmm

Megan2018 · 12/09/2020 08:12

Definitely not enough!
We use proper butter here, spreads are foul and we get through a lot. I don’t think that’s enough for 1 slice of bread really

Heronwatcher · 12/09/2020 08:14

Who died and made you butter monitor? He also doesn’t sound like he is very nice to/ about your mum which is a bit mean. Does he really begrudge someone a sandwich when they have been helping you? He sounds like a moody baby.

fuandylp · 12/09/2020 08:27

There's not a lot there for 4 slices of bread but he's being ridiculous throwing a strop and then going off with no sandwiches at all. He could have made do with that.
I don't butter on sandwiches if they have filling in them anyway and I think he could survive for one day with a very small layer of butter.
He's making a point because your Mum ate the butter. Cheeky beggar .... him, I mean!

Pelleas · 12/09/2020 08:36

It wouldn't allow for very lavish spreading and you'd have to spend time scraping the tub round, but you could just about get two sarnies from that.

It isn't mandatory to have butter/marge on your sandwiches anyway. If we unexpectedly run out I just have them on dry bread or use mayo.

Not worth making a fuss about.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2020 08:39

@SwanShaped

No one needs two sandwiches for lunch. Agree about margarine being disgusting. Slimy. I can even imagine the sound and feel of the knife scraping against the bottom of the tub. Urgh.
How many sandwiches you need might depend on when/how much breakfast you'd had, and how long it would be before you'd be able to get dinner.
ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2020 08:45

Since it came up - it's hump not ump. Possibly derived from the way cats arch up their backs or the spittiness of camels? But in many accents the h will be dropped, so 'ump.Grin

You might not need two sandwiches for lunch but some people do. Not everyone is like you. I don't need two sandwiches for lunch but the OP's DP might have a physically-demanding job or he might need more calories for whatever reason or he might eat little for breakfast or it might be hours before he comes home for his evening meal.
ExclamationPerfume · 12/09/2020 09:04

That would last us a good 4 days. How much does he use?

mumwon · 12/09/2020 09:07

if he buys sandwiches he will get less - many only have marg/butter on one slice & than only a scape

Oysterbabe · 12/09/2020 09:09

I don't have 2 sandwiches for lunch but I might also have crisps and /or a chocolate bar so not much difference.

Oysterbabe · 12/09/2020 09:10

Also a 10st woman doesn't need the same amount as a 16st man.

slipperywhensparticus · 12/09/2020 09:15

He will get less if he buys a sandwich most places butter one side only

Your right its because your mom dared to visit and eat

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 12/09/2020 09:15

And he's working a night shift. So that might be his main meal of the day.

LilyLongJohn · 12/09/2020 09:15

He's being ridiculous and acting like a toddler.

In your shoes I'd chuck it out and he'd have nothing unless he buys it

BabyLlamaZen · 12/09/2020 09:16

It's enough but if he was already in a bad mood and expected an easy scrape that mightve sent him over the edge Grin

Charleyhorses · 12/09/2020 09:21

That's his Xmas pressie sorted then. Massive catering pack of spread from Costco, all tied up under the tree!

Billben · 12/09/2020 09:25

There is more than enough there for two sandwiches. Surely he only butters one side of the sandwich anyway.

DizzyPigeon · 12/09/2020 09:26

Chances are it's not margarine, as margarine is no longer sold in the UK. And yes, I'm assuming op is in the UK.

It is 'spread'.

(which is basically much like margarine but with less fat).

And Yanbu op, there is plenty there.

WeeMadArthur · 12/09/2020 09:29

There’s enough there unless he’s making a butter sandwich!

Oysterbabe · 12/09/2020 09:29

Surely he only butters one side of the sandwich anyway.

This is a whole separate debate. I don't know anyone uses one slice of dry bread on their sandwich.
