Apparently there wasn't enough butter to make his sandwiches.

I'll attatch a photo, please do let me know what you think. I'm not taking him seriously, obviously.

When I said that there quite clearly is enough for two ham sandwiches he said "well I just like alot of butter" and chose to leave without any sandwiches at all and a face like a slapped arse.

I suspect he's got the ump about the fact that my DM had sandwiches here this afternoon and is blaming her for the lack of butter (I never use it)

So just for my amusement..

YABU - there isn't enough
YANBU - there's plenty

What's wrong with margarine by the way? Grin

IMN are notorious butter snobs OP Wink

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 11/09/2020 23:28

He is being unreasonable in assuming you have the role of Butter Monitor if you haven't formally accepted that responsibility

Completelyfrozen · 11/09/2020 23:30

I dont know why your DH is remotely bothered. It's margarine!! I'd rather buy sandwiches from the shop than eat margarine. Grin

killerofmen · 11/09/2020 23:31

Sorry to throw this into the mix with the buttery snobbery but when you say two ham sandwiches, is that 2 slices of bread or 4?

Completelyfrozen · 11/09/2020 23:32

OP, Margarine is a plastic box full of coloured chemicals and it doesnt even taste buttery. Even flies wont touch it!! I certainly wouldnt give it to my family.

jessstan2 · 11/09/2020 23:33

He's a baby. Shops are open, he can some lunch.

CardsforKittens · 11/09/2020 23:34

I could definitely get two ham sandwiches with that, but I add mayo and mustard. Or lettuce, tomato and mayo. More butter than that, without additional ingredients, would make it too greasy for me.

On another note, is it the ump or the hump (perhaps with a silent h)? I always thought it was the latter but now I’m doubting myself.

Buttr · 11/09/2020 23:35

I really had no idea margarine was widely despised!

So for two ham sandwiches that would be four pieces of bread.

I would definitely be able to make up the two sandwiches with that amount of spread myself.

He must lay it on with a trowel.

I honestly don't know. I was torn between the two so settled for "ump" Wink

That wouldn't me another 2 days. Probably best to just bin it if its margarine though.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/09/2020 23:38

Would last me another 2 days 🙄

Buttr · 11/09/2020 23:40

I'll chuck it in the bin momentarily, when he comes home in the morning and goes looking for his margarine dregs I'll let him know it's gone and that we're not to buy it anymore as it's grotesque Wink

Oh op. It's Mumsnet. Wher a chicken lady you 6 years and no one must poo in the guest toilet! Tell him to get the butter knife out and stop being so mardy!

CandyLeBonBon · 11/09/2020 23:43

Lasts not lady. Goddamit my fingers need a stern talking to!

yellowgusset · 11/09/2020 23:43

Margarine is great! Always the right spreadability straight from the fridge.

Butter's too hard in winter and if you forget to get it out out of the fridge until you need it then it's rock solid! Nightmare.

CandyLeBonBon · 11/09/2020 23:43

Yes, @yellowgusset ! Grin

chipsandgin · 11/09/2020 23:44

Butter or any butter substitute is grim in sandwiches anyway. Plus he’s being an arse, presumably there is more to it/he’s a petty man/he’s a lucky man if that’s his biggest problem. Whichever it is I’d tell him to pull himself together because he’s being ridiculous I I wouldn’t have time for that shit!

Queenoftheashes · 11/09/2020 23:44

I thought mumsnet decreed that it’s spread not marge...
I could easily get a couple of sandwiches out of it anyway.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 11/09/2020 23:47

Is it spread rather than spreadable butter though? My lurpak comes in a tub that looks exactly like that.
Either way. No. Not enough for 2 butties there.
Still no need to act like a toddler about it though. Grin

CardsforKittens · 11/09/2020 23:49

Someone hold my pint.
Butter makes a sandwich. A sandwich without butter is like the night sky without the stars. The only way I’d leave out the butter is if I’m having panini with salami and cheese. And even then I’d consider it.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 11/09/2020 23:50

That’s only enough for 1 sandwich for sure, if you like butter, like I do

I’m glad I’m not the only one that spotted it was marge! Marge is U in all circumstances, as is people calling marge butter 😂 spreadable anchor/countrylife is the way to go

Casmama · 11/09/2020 23:51

interesting that the dp is being accused of being petty when it is the op posting photos of her margarine tub on the internet and encouraging people to slag of her dp!
Buy spreadable butter - margarine has more in common with petrol than it does butter.

Carrottop73 · 11/09/2020 23:53

That spread/ margarine looks horrible anyway. Better off without it.

You are right not to touch it yourself. If he wants more I’m sure he knows where the shop is.

Buttr · 11/09/2020 23:54

I think the bigger picture here is that he's annoyed about my DM eating things that he has (in his mind) saved for himself, even though the spread is there to serve the household and not just him.

I've hurt my leg so DM has been here today kindly helping me out with the kids, during which she's not had time to have lunch at home so I've told her to help herself here.

She has two sandwiches.

DP gets up and goes to prepare his for work and sees there is (in his view) considerably less spread there than when he went to bed, and it's my DM who's used it.

That, in turn, annoys him because he can't have his sandwiches the way he wants them so decides to be a bit childish and have none at all.
