Apparently there wasn't enough butter to make his sandwiches.

I'll attatch a photo, please do let me know what you think. I'm not taking him seriously, obviously.

When I said that there quite clearly is enough for two ham sandwiches he said "well I just like alot of butter" and chose to leave without any sandwiches at all and a face like a slapped arse.

I suspect he's got the ump about the fact that my DM had sandwiches here this afternoon and is blaming her for the lack of butter (I never use it)

So just for my amusement..

YABU - there isn't enough
YANBU - there's plenty

He should be able to make that spread to two sandwiches. It might not be as much butter as normal, but it’s fine.

Is he really being arsey about your mum having a sandwich?

MiddlesexGirl · 11/09/2020 23:57

Even spreadable butter is an abomination. Just buy a proper butter dish and leave it out on the side.

And no, that's not enough for two sandwiches plus whoever's used it before has made a right mess of it - I'd be annoyed if I had that mess to deal with to make my sandwiches.

MiddlesexGirl · 11/09/2020 23:58

Butter keeps for ages. No reason not to have plenty of spares in the fridge.

FenellaVelour · 11/09/2020 23:59

Easily enough spread for two sandwiches!

hippohector · 12/09/2020 00:00

I voted YABU because imo there is not enough butter there for two sandwiches. However, HE is BU for having a strop and being a man child over this.
Seriously, who has time for that shit?

jessstan2 · 12/09/2020 00:03

@Buttr

Of course the logical thing to do would be to spread it thinly and add something like salad cream or mayonnaise as suggested above.

The problem with that is, doing so would mean he couldn't then have his huff about the lack of butter.

He took some money to work instead then huffed how having to buy sandwiches there will waste his break time (overnight retail)

Ridiculous, he surely passes an open store on the way to work, even a petrol station shop. He is one big baby.
CardsforKittens · 12/09/2020 00:04

Is your DH frequently annoyed at your DM? Why isn’t he grateful to her for helping out? Seems like Buttergate is the thin end of the wedge.

SeaToSki · 12/09/2020 00:04

Oooo. Im coming over all reminiscent...I live in the land of ‘thou shalt only make sandwiches with mayo’. Butter never touches any ham sandwiches here and I do miss it (when buying a sandwich out, as I make my own home made ones very buttery)

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 12/09/2020 00:08

Why is everyone having two sandwiches? If you're DM had one sandwich and he had one sandwich there would've been plenty. Also I genuinely thought I can't believe it's not butter didn't exist any more, but then I've only just found out sunny delight is still a thing.
I am a proper butter fan and it's all I give DS but we do usually have a tub of lurpak in the fridge too

ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2020 00:08

The full story... he's being an ungrateful dick.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 12/09/2020 00:09

There is not enough spread there for two sandwiches

feliciabirthgiver · 12/09/2020 00:16

Margarine is the only foodstuff that rats won't eat!

HowFastIsTooFast · 12/09/2020 00:17

@Buttr

What's wrong with margarine by the way? Grin
For me it was all we got as a kid, and it was the very cheapest kind, on the very cheapest white sliced bread, sometimes toasted. It's slimy and chemical tasting and it doesn't melt like butter, it pools like melted plastic.

Many years later the thought of it is enough to make me gag.

Shock the sandwich police are here!

Why is DM only allowed one sandwich? Maybe she was hungry? Maybe DH COULD HAVE BOUGHT MORE MARG?

Buttr · 12/09/2020 00:45

I believe my DM gets on his nerves somewhat. He would never say that to me (or her) but it's the impression i get.

I'll let him know to get some 'proper' butter Grin

OP posts:
blueshoes · 12/09/2020 00:50

I think your DM is somewhat inconsiderate to use up all the butter. If I was a guest in someone's house, I'd try to ration my use so I don't leave the host with nothing left. I'd be pretty annoyed too if I were your dh.

Weetabixandcrumpets · 12/09/2020 00:54

Okay I admit it. I sometimes get grumpy and even petty when something I want from the fridge has been finished and I'm off to work (and I am the one who does all the shopping).

Not enough and yes, one of you, get 'proper' butter. Grin

Buttr · 12/09/2020 00:54

I don't think she used much at all just a thin layer, she definitely isn't a CF.

OP posts:
Buttr · 12/09/2020 00:55

Oh I will definitely be getting some proper butter, to see the difference mostly Grin

Spreadable butter is ok for sandwiches.
HamRadio · 12/09/2020 01:02

Is she there a lot?

If my MIL was always around my house it would irritate me. If I went to make a cup of tea and she had used the last of the milk (for example) it might be the straw that broke the camels back.

Nandakanda · 12/09/2020 01:05

I could get three ham sarnies out of that.

Your husband is talking out of his arse.

Mayonnaise is OK on ham too.

KunekuneKristmasCake · 12/09/2020 01:13

Hang on. You’re injured and she is there helping you out and looking after the kids - and he’s having a strop about margarine? I’d laugh all day at the thought of his sulky little face trotting out the door!

BoomBoomsCousin · 12/09/2020 01:16

By two sandwiches I assume four slices of regular, commercial, sliced loaf, in which case, No! Nowhere near enough. But that's why I rarely have butter on my sarnies any more.

MintyMabel · 12/09/2020 01:24

I thought mumsnet decreed that it’s spread not marge...

No, it was the EU who did that. Maybe we’ll get it back after Brexit.
