I work in the charity sector and think I'm ok for at least 12 months, although another department of the same organisation will be making redundancies soon.

My mate is in the pharmaceutical sector and they're going to be hit quite hard soon too.

How safe do you think your job is?

No idea no one knows this shut show will pan out.

ConfusedPanda · 11/09/2020 15:57

I'm not worried at all

houseofhungryboys · 11/09/2020 15:58

Public sector - local Government - hoping it is pretty secure 🤞🏻

Spidey66 · 11/09/2020 16:04

NHS mental health nurse. My job is secure, I'd put my last pound on it. We're going to be very busy (not in a good way) as a result of the pandemic.

speakout · 11/09/2020 16:06

Not too worried.
I am self employed, I am busier than ever during this crisis.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/09/2020 16:06

Civil Service for the non-ministerial department which acts to ensure consumer protection and business competition. I was taken on as part of expansion to cope with the boost workload Brexit is going to cause. Then Covid happened and our workload has increased with that. We’ve been given remit to grow further. None of know for certain but I imagine all this will keep me busy for a bit.

It’s entirely sector dependent though, and some poor sods can have worked their ass off for years and find their industry collapsing.

NastyBlouse · 11/09/2020 16:14

I work for myself, so in some ways not secure at all.

But the flipside is that in some ways it's more within my power to influence than if I was on a salary. I have no boss, no employees and no premises so I've been able to change what I do very quickly in order to meet the changing needs of customers/clients, which has helped me survive thus far.

ameliajoan · 11/09/2020 16:17

I’m not worried. My job isn’t going anywhere; we struggle to hire enough people! Nobody will be let go.

Hadjab · 11/09/2020 16:20

Retail, in the process of being made redundant...

TrumpsAKnobHeadWazzok · 11/09/2020 16:28

The job I did is definitely secure. This job has become crazily busy because of travel restrictions.

In hard financial times more people commit fraud and I was a self-employed very busy certified fraud examiner working with fraudulent travel insurance claims.

As soon as money is tight people take a punt and the rate of fraudulent claims increases.

I had to leave due to health issues, but have had companies calling and asking if I can do the initial 'we know you're trying to scam us but tell us your tall tale anyway' phone calls. Some of them can be really funny! Most seem to think we believe them!

I've almost finished writing a book about being a fraud examiner; it's kept me busy as I miss my work so much.

KeepSmiling89 · 11/09/2020 16:31

NHS Speech and Language Therapist. My role is permanent and I'm very confident my job is secure.

Ariela · 11/09/2020 16:35

Mine is very secure, just busier than last year, taking on an extra person.

LagunaBubbles · 11/09/2020 16:37

I'm a NHS Nurse. So thankfully secure.

MercuryRising · 11/09/2020 16:38

I'm a teacher. I feel very grateful that my job is secure.

ZoeTurtle · 11/09/2020 16:40

I think I'm okay as long as the company I work for survives. My role is pretty crucial to getting us back on our feet.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/09/2020 16:41

I work in furniture manufacturing. During lockdown business was bad enough for me to be furloughed. At the moment business is booming, probably because people are spending more time at home/not having holidays. I'm under no illusions though, it could go either way. Another lockdown would be bad news.

LoudBatPerson · 11/09/2020 16:49

I work within the webhosting industry. We are seeing an upturn currently in all key metrics, as we do during most times of economic turmoil. I am feeling as secure as ever really, and have actually been promoted and given a pay increase in the last couple of months.

My husbands job is gone, directly due to Covid19, so I am very greatful for my security. We are fotuneate enough that I am the main breadwinner in our family and we can manage on just my salary.

FruitLoopyLoo · 11/09/2020 16:57

No idea. At the moment things seem to be going well surprisingly (work in conveyancing). That could change though 🤷‍♀️

My husband is self employed and again, surprisingly, has been incredibly busy.

GreyShadow · 11/09/2020 16:57

Oh wow! On the whole pretty positive!!

Sorry for those who are being made redundant, though. :(

But a bit of good news in a straw poll!!

roarfeckingroarr · 11/09/2020 16:59

Very secure. Huge company, no furlough or redundancies during COVID and committed to this continuing, personally valued by my director, plus I'm about to go on mat leave so I have the legal protections that come with it

Hingeandbracket · 11/09/2020 17:02

Fucking insecure - but then I always have felt that way. Very few jobs are truly secure.

Ragwort · 11/09/2020 17:06

Fairly confident at the moment, I work in charity retail and my shop currently performs well ... but it is entirely related to long term performance ... many shops in the charity retail sector have already closed or will close soon.

BlueThistles · 11/09/2020 17:09

my job is super secure, I have no worries.

MiteBiteatNite · 11/09/2020 17:10

It's funny, DH and I had this conversation yesterday. I work in the charity sector, although in a role which directly deals with people who have been affected by financial/housing/consumer problems so sadly, but also gladly for me, there's no chance of my position being made redundant any time soon. If anything, I think they'll be increasing my hours as I'm part time at the minute.

DH works in the construction industry and his firm have hired 4 people since they returned to the office in July. However, there will absolutely be redundancies in the next financial year. DH works in a very niche role, and he has created and developed processes and products which only he has the knowledge to implement. His firm need him, and that's unlikely to change any time soon. He's 100% certain his job is secure.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/09/2020 17:12

I think the crunch time for me will be in 12 months, when the cash reserves we are using to tide us over may run out.

I hope to be gone before that happens.
