I work in the charity sector and think I'm ok for at least 12 months, although another department of the same organisation will be making redundancies soon.

My mate is in the pharmaceutical sector and they're going to be hit quite hard soon too.

How safe do you think your job is?

*staff not stagg!

QueenPaws · 11/09/2020 19:31

Car dealership. Not concerned, we are incredibly busy and car sales are up

AbsentmindedWoman · 11/09/2020 19:35

My mate is in the pharmaceutical sector and they're going to be hit quite hard soon too.

@GreyShadow why will the pharmaceutical sector be hit quite hard? Aren't essential drugs, well, essential?

CloudyVanilla · 11/09/2020 19:35

I work for a large higher education employer so initially felt pretty stable. But, on reconsideration I a) have been there just over a year and have spent the majority of that on mat leave and b) my particular job involves something that might be diminished in the wake of a less face to face world Confused

I like my job and love my company though so I'm hoping to stay

Chocolatekitty · 11/09/2020 19:36

As secure as my workplace. I'm a higher education librarian looking after electronic resources, so distance learning is seeing me busier than ever. As long as the university stays open in some form, they need someone in my role.
If there are major changes in funding in the next year or two though, who knows?

RichPetunia · 11/09/2020 19:39

Very, unfortunately. I want to be pad off.

KeepingPlain · 11/09/2020 19:43

Mine is pretty secure, I should be fine.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 11/09/2020 19:44

As secure as it was before the pandemic. My company is doing well. Of course there is always a chance they will restructure/outsource. But then there always is. I’d get a reasonable redundancy payment if anything happened, and I have enough savings to live on for 2 years - so I’m not especially worried. DH’s job is probably less secure, but as long as one of us is working we’ll be fine.

Witchcraftandhokum · 11/09/2020 19:47

I'm a teacher so pretty secure...even though everyone hates us.

Hongsi · 11/09/2020 19:51

Very secure now I work in a niche tech role now after retraining as I was made redundant last year after my previous job lost loads of contracts because of Brexit uncertainty.

Hargao · 11/09/2020 19:55

My job is hopefully secure (professional working in-house for a company in a sector doing well) but DH is in aviation so very much not secure.

Slippy78 · 11/09/2020 19:58

Pretty secure until EV's take off in this country - I manage a petrol station.

Allthebubbles · 11/09/2020 19:59

Teacher I think I'm ok.

I'm an emergency planner for the NHS and have led the trust response to COVID. Theoretically my job should be 100% safe but when this is over, budgets will be slashed and it wouldn't surprise me if they thought, 'we've had our once in a lifetime pandemic, we'll manage without you now' GrinHmm

FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 11/09/2020 20:16

Been made redundant. Theatre industry, and if the theatres ever open, any new jobs are to be minimum wage, and zero hour contracts. Couldn’t live like that if there are other options. Currently researching work prospects as a funeral director.

Wrenna · 11/09/2020 20:23

I’m a student aid assistant for a school district and if anything they will welcome more hours from me.

vanillandhoney · 11/09/2020 20:27

I'm not worried. I'm a dog walker and I'm busier than ever.

MrsSnitchnose · 11/09/2020 20:34

@Sideorderofchips Me too! Busier than ever even for this time of year and have been working flat out all week. Think they're trying to get all the big practicals crammed in at the start in case we have to close at some point

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/09/2020 20:36

NHS hospital very safe. However I have two friends made redundant this week out of the blue , different industries, so it’s made me worry for the economy.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/09/2020 20:45

Medical research, much of it now covid related, so feel secure

JamSarnie · 11/09/2020 20:53

What worries me is the knock on effect when companies fold or shrink. So much is interconnected. Also when unemployment rises people have less to spend and even those who have a job worry and start to save and spend less. Then you have less taxes further down the road and public services are cut.

That's why I am worried even though my job appears safe 'for the moment' because this is going to have a long term impact.

RaspberryToupee · 11/09/2020 20:56

My role is regulatory but not valued by the company. I think they would love to get rid of my team and blame Covid but they’ll be shooting themselves in the foot as they will receive fines for not having my programmes in place. Our budget has been slashed and covid blamed (partly true but there’s always an excuse to slash our budget). I think they’re driving to drive us to quit, then wont re-recruit the roles because of covid, then offer low wages and not fill the positions so offer excuse after excuse as to why they couldn’t fulfil their obligations.

TwilightSkies · 11/09/2020 20:56

I work in a care home which has a long waiting list. Very secure!
Crap money though...

puffinkoala · 11/09/2020 20:57

At the moment not too bad. But if we really do end up with a no deal Brexit all bets are off Angry
