I work in the charity sector and think I'm ok for at least 12 months, although another department of the same organisation will be making redundancies soon.

My mate is in the pharmaceutical sector and they're going to be hit quite hard soon too.

How safe do you think your job is?

I work in aviation, so....

puffinkoala · 11/09/2020 20:58

Car dealership. Not concerned, we are incredibly busy and car sales are up

And yet a friend of mine has been made redundant from his. Obviously varies around the country.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 11/09/2020 20:58

Public sector, Criminal justice, we've already been cut to the bone so badly there is now a recruitment drive and it sounds terrible but in harder times crime rates and our workload increase.

YogiMatte · 11/09/2020 21:01

3rd sector
Back in April we were being told there would be redundancies within the team, however these have not transpired yet. So I will hang on in there for now.

Darkbendis · 11/09/2020 21:03

DH's job is very secure (NHS), I am self employed and have always been very busy, even during the lockdown - however, I have no idea how things will be next year. So far so good...

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 11/09/2020 21:06

Work for a supermarket so very secure. We’re on a recruitment drive and we’re expanding our home shopping pod.

Close to minimum wage though and everyone assumes you’re a thicko.

NaughtipussMaximus · 11/09/2020 21:09

Reasonably secure for the next year or so. After that, who knows?

Bilingualspingual · 11/09/2020 21:11

Theatre. Whole industry up shit creek. Terrifying.

Oysterbabe · 11/09/2020 21:16

Mine feels a little precarious. We're overly reliant on a single source of work that could cut us off whenever they fancy. I'm quite senior in my role so I think they'd dump others before me. It's still not great though. I'm fairly employable so I reckon I'd find something.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 11/09/2020 21:16

NHS MH Forensic (management)

Yes it’s safe. We are very busy and under a lot of pressure

But not worried about job security

CorianderLord · 11/09/2020 21:18

Unless something catastrophic happens... very.

We've already done several rounds of redundancies. Our team is tiny (3 people - manager, me and another my level) but we pull in triple what the other teams our size do. I'm the newest but that also means I'm not paid loads and am just as good and reliable.

CorianderLord · 11/09/2020 21:20

And the redundancies only got rid of about 10 people not in my area of the business

KeyWorker · 11/09/2020 21:23

Very secure. NHS neonatal nurse so unfortunately there will always be a job for me. (Baring negligence or gross misconduct of course!)

Cocothefirst · 11/09/2020 21:28

Charity fundraiser. A number of my colleagues are going through redundancy consultation and I'm concerned.

BingIsAMassiveTwat · 11/09/2020 21:41

Very secure. Workload has hugely increased and even if it hadn't, out of the 4 people doing my role in the team I would be the last to go.

womty · 11/09/2020 21:43

I'm the newest but that also means I'm not paid loads and am just as good and reliable.

Normally being the newest is bad because "you're" much cheaper to make redundant.

Loftyloft · 11/09/2020 21:46

My job will likely be moving to Poland next year.

I’m hoping another role may come up in the same organisation (though most are edging towards Poland), and I’d like to think I could get another job without too much issue (professionally qualification) but who knows in this climate.

Sideorderofchips · 11/09/2020 22:25

@mrssnitchnose

We are trying to play catch up on last year plus we have every increasing year group sizes. Normally we start off etih about 20 practicals a week at this time of the year. We are at 32 and rising!

MrsSnitchnose · 11/09/2020 22:49

@Sideorderofchips We've done 50 this week! Doesn't sound too bad because there's 3 of us but I deal with the biology ones and they're big as you know. Had to make up my algal beads this week too

EL8888 · 11/09/2020 22:52

Very secure. Mental health nurse so “business” is booming sadly

Doodlebug5 · 11/09/2020 22:55

Aerospace

Fucked massively

foofooyeah · 11/09/2020 23:00

Travel industry, But I work in IT department .
Not been furloughed but do not feel at all secure.

CherryPieface · 11/09/2020 23:00

I work for a university so think I’m ok. Husband works in recruitment - quite worried about his future.

Itsalongwayto · 11/09/2020 23:06

1000%. Nhs. 20% shortage in my field.

Atla · 11/09/2020 23:13

NHS nurse. Job very secure. DH is a software engineer, can work from home. Job also secure.
