I work in the charity sector and think I'm ok for at least 12 months, although another department of the same organisation will be making redundancies soon.

My mate is in the pharmaceutical sector and they're going to be hit quite hard soon too.

How safe do you think your job is?

There have been redundancies, about 10 out of 50 people, at my work. I'm currently on maternity leave and my cover was made redundant so someone else is covering my position.... how long before they realise they don't need to pay me too?? Will just have to see what happens but my partner is still working flat out and earns good money so I'm not overly worried but I would like to go back to work. The worst thing that can happen is I become a SAHM, there are people far worse off than me so I can't and won't moan.

womty · 11/09/2020 17:33

Fairly secure but expect to me hit by wage stagnation & tax rises.

womty · 11/09/2020 17:33

be

teenagetantrums · 11/09/2020 17:37

I work in care home. Worked whole way through lockdown. No change in my job security. My DP works in a supermarket so obviously secure.

vlarder · 11/09/2020 17:38

I work for one of the biggest Internet providers in the UK - no redundancies or furloughing. Thank God!

Infullbloom · 11/09/2020 17:42

Very secure. Vet medicine, never been busier. However I'm actually about to jump ship to a new employer, loads of vacancies in our industry just now.

bugglyy · 11/09/2020 17:43

Fairly secure & have both been busy throughout lockdown but who knows what the economy will look like in 6 months time. I'm a teacher but we have lost & are losing a much higher number of kids than normal at my school so staff numbers may shrink. DH is in finance but transactions in the wider economy needs to continue for there to be business for his company. If your selling a service people have to have money to buy it.

longhaulstress · 11/09/2020 17:44

At a sports club and quite nervous about job security currently. No redundancies but very dependent on future memberships/bookings which are shaky.

ErickBroch · 11/09/2020 17:44

I am also in the charity sector - fortunately i'm in an in-demand position in fundraising. We have had some redundancies in other areas, but not fundraising. I hope it pans out ok although everyone is aware of the risk. I am grateful that a lot of charities are hiring my position right now though so if things do go tits-up - I might be ok!

FineWithWine · 11/09/2020 17:45

Secure- NHS nurse in an acute hospital setting. We are always short staffed and seem to permanently be recruiting new nurses but they inevitably leave after a few months.

windyautumn · 11/09/2020 17:45

NHS hospital therapist in a highly specialist role - never been busier currently. Massive backlog from covid and patients will always need us.

bluebeck · 11/09/2020 17:46

I work in Employment Law so very secure!!

SockYarn · 11/09/2020 17:51

I'm self-employed so I can't be sacked/made redundant. I've been busier than I ever have been through lock down and that shows no signs of slowing, so should be fine.

iklboo · 11/09/2020 17:56

Our team are business vital, our company is essential. I'm the top performer in my team my quite some margin and quite senior. I'd hope my job is secure but never say never!

gingerninja99 · 11/09/2020 18:01

I work for DWP and my job was not secure pre COVID (earmarked for closure) and since we still don't know our local future I'd say it still not secure

wizzler · 11/09/2020 18:02

I've been told that my company will lose half the senior managers before March

TeeBee · 11/09/2020 18:05

Not worried at all. I work indirectly with pharmaceutical industry. I'm self-employed and fully booked out for the rest of the year; a lot of it COVID diagnostics. I'm having turn work away. Just as well as I'm a single mum and the only earner.
Sorry to those losing jobs; that must be utter shit and scary Sad

KitKatastrophe · 11/09/2020 18:08

I am a private tutor. At the moment my job is pretty secure - I'm in high demand. I suppose if a lot of people lose jobs then there will be fewer people who can afford a tutor.

My husband works in the NHS so quite secure. He isnt a doctor or anything like that, completely office based, so I suppose if the budget is really stretched he might lose his job but I think it's unlikely.

thecatsthecats · 11/09/2020 18:08

About as safe as it could be.

Our company works with key workers. Our service helps with covid recovery. We've just taken on new staff, and we've secured loans for investment on top of our reserves.

As for me personally, we're a small team, and I have the greatest experience of different business functions. Finance, customer support, service design, systems and operations management.

Poptart4 · 11/09/2020 18:09

I'm in health care so should be fairly secure.

However this time last year 2 people were made redundant from my job

PepperMooMoo · 11/09/2020 18:10

Careers Manager, employed by the LA to work in a large secondary and attached sixth form.... mines the job that would go during a restructure or redundancies I'd think .... 🤔

Poptart4 · 11/09/2020 18:11

Posted too soon...

2 people were made redundant from my job out of the blue and that thought me that no job is ever really guaranteed.

Bookriddle · 11/09/2020 18:11

Well i was made redundant back in july, but working for a agency, been working at the same plqce since, i think they are gonna offer me a full time job!

My wife is a nurse practitioner in ITU her job is safe as houses

JamSarnie · 11/09/2020 18:15

Have been working throughout but I never consider any job to be secure as you just never know.

MedSchoolRat · 11/09/2020 18:15

Pffffttt.
Haven't a scoobie.
My contract has already been slashed so why wouldn't it be slashed further?
