I haven't had any really serious injuries , just a few cuts and bruises

OP posts:
Questioningeverything · 10/09/2020 14:41

My neck in a car accident (story very outing but I was a child)
My elbow- wasn’t picked up on initial xrays, so healed badly.
My toe- fuck me did that hurt
My finger- dislocated it at another point too, dislocation hurt more
My shoulder- sort of, it had a step when you looked at it from behind- it was a good 2-3 inches lower than it should have been
I’m a walking disaster zone 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Sewcialist · 10/09/2020 15:21

God some of these are horrific.

Horses are fuckers. I broke an arm falling off a horse, I only fell about 30cm onto a pile of sawdust, fuck knows how I managed to break a bone Hmm

Injury with worst long term effects was dislocating my shoulder falling off the sofa during a seizure. I was confused (post ictal) when I came round and put it back in place myself. Dislocated it again a few months later and put it back in myself again. It's fucked now and I'm waiting for an op Hmm. The doctors have asked me to try and stop myself putting it back in place.

Also managed to knock myself unconscious dancing with DH - he "twirled" me and I banged my face into a stone pillar. Also I broke my finger when we were dancing in our kitchen and we tried to recreate the lift scene in Dirty Dancing. We've stopped dancing now.

Brigante9 · 10/09/2020 18:43

@JacobReesMogadishu nope, one was in the field trying to catch in!

Brigante9 · 10/09/2020 18:44

@CokeyCola yes, but only mine, gently!

Peacocking · 10/09/2020 19:03

I cracked my coxyx by putting two mattresses end to end on the stairs and sliding down them on a sleeping bag taking turns with the kids. My heels caught the edge of the bottom mattress, lifted it and my bum came down hard on the stair. I was in my 30s.

The doctor said he couldn't give me any tablets for stupidity....

catfeets · 10/09/2020 19:13

Fractured my skull aged 3 falling 6ft head first onto concrete.
Slipped a disc twice - the second time it seems to have become a permanent feature Sad.

BanjoStarz · 10/09/2020 20:31

@Brigante9 I don’t set off airport alarms - they had to remove the metal work a couple of years ago as it was causing pain Confused

I ride very occasionally and very gently, i shouldn’t really because the pain afterwards is almost not worth it, I have to have someone to catch me when I get off as I can’t land on my bad side and darent put all my weight through my “good” side as that’s getting less good because I keep using it!

Thisisworsethananticpated · 10/09/2020 20:44

RosieLemonade · 10/09/2020 21:42

@60sbird

Years ago we used to have a hamster and used to let it roam around in one of those plastic ball things anyway one night I was in bed trying to go to sleep facing away from the door, when my then 4 year old ran into my room and climbed into bed with me, I thought ignore him and he will go back to sleep, then the hamster came rolling into the room at full speed and banged into my mirror, my 4 year old sat up quickly so I turned over to tell him not to worry it’s only the hamster mummy must’ve forgotten to put him away anyway I turn over and no child in my bed, no hamster in my room I called my mum up crying, I was 27 and it was 2am, she was not impressed
Which thread was it meant to be on? Sounds interesting!
foxtiger · 10/09/2020 21:44

Very unserious - a cracked (not even properly broken) bone in my wrist when I was 16.

Brigante9 · 10/09/2020 21:45

Shall I do another? Not an injury, but all the skin on my hands/feet started falling off. Turned out to be a severe episode of eczema, which I’d never had until a couple of years ago!

D4rwin · 10/09/2020 21:46

I'm deaf in one ear thanks to a childhood accident jumping off a swing and falling badly. To be honest I was too dazed to realise the various pains that I was feeling then there was fuss and lollipops. My face was bruised for a while too.
Dislocated shoulder whilst stuck underwater in my canoe. Took water into my lungs. Not fun, definitely a 1 star review there.

RIPWalter · 10/09/2020 21:55

Dodgy rotten beach side trampoline in Greece...Open fractured tibia and fibula with bone fragments (which had to be removed) and nerve damage, and a cluster fuck of poor decisions and incompetence by 2 orthopaedic surgeons before my df kicked off and I got put under the care of a lovely orthopaedic surgeon who was amazing, fixed my leg and used me as a case study for a orthopaedic conference in Switzerland.

Then a couple of years later (downhill mountain biking) I fractured my hand.
Fracture/dislocation 4th and 5th metacarpals (5th one fracture through the cartilage at the end of the bone) crushed the 5th carpal into oblivion. The duty orthopaedic surgeon the day I went in for surgery was the lovely doctor who had finally sorted my leg out.

The hand was a less significant injury at the time but gives me more pain 20 years on.

RIPWalter · 10/09/2020 21:59

Also fractured my orbit windsurfing in some very big waves but by some miracle wasn't knocked out. So not too big a deal, but probably the closest I've come to dieing.

Ringsender2 · 10/09/2020 22:01

@CMOTDibbler that's impressive-sounding. How did you manage it?
@RIPWalter you too!

Imonlydoingwhatican · 10/09/2020 22:06

Cricket ball to the head as a child.

Luckily i dont remember much of it. My mum on the other hand

Sickoffamilydrama · 10/09/2020 22:15

I'm hypermobile so used to dislocate my knee caps regularly hurts like a mother fucker and that's being polite.
Broke my coccyx playing bench ball.

Horse related ones are being bitten my particular favourite was on the neck that was a great love bite and kicked across from one side of the yard to the over.

Oh and landing wrong in the water when jumping from a massive pirate ship in Cyprus had huge bruises from the back of my knees right up to my back lucky I didn't knock myself out🤦‍♀️

purplesky18 · 10/09/2020 22:23

Another horse story, I fell off quite a large horse (at a very slow canter may i add) and ruptured my appendix, a cyst in my ovary and to top it all off I damaged my bowel also, resulting in a 5 hour emergency surgery to fix all my organs at once lol. Never rode again after that.

littlemisslozza · 10/09/2020 22:28

Currently recovering from multiple fractures to my pelvis caused by a hard fall from my horse who bucked several times. Previous fracture to my sacrum when I was a teenager but not horse related.

nearlyoldenough · 10/09/2020 22:29

I’ll add more horse ones, just to really put people off them 🤣
Broke my arm in three places when I was 11, falling off a horse onto a road, really scuffed my head up as well. Was in hospital for days and people would come in and shake their heads and say “ road accident? “ sort of, my mum would add !
Got kicked in the stomach, no serious damage but amazing horseshoe shaped bruise
Broke my little finger falling off in Sherwood Forest and had to just get on with it and ride 30 miles, because it was a team race, still bent.
Still ride every day, figure I’m old enough that somethings going to get me so might as well enjoy it .

Skigal86 · 10/09/2020 22:30

Most painful was probably my broken elbow, although it was only really awfully painful for a few days, I was home alone so I didn’t dare take the good painkillers.

Most serious was probably the skiing accident I had as a toddler which 1cm down would have left me blind in one eye. I guess this must have been pretty painful but I don’t remember much other than the nurses being very kind and giving me things to play with to keep me still while they treated me.

DENMAN03 · 10/09/2020 22:35

Another horse related one! Fell off at speed and landed on my feet. Broke my leg and ankle in several places plus dislocated it. This was after the surgery to plate it back together. Tuck and roll people! Don't try and stand up! Smile
