I haven't had any really serious injuries , just a few cuts and bruises

A head injury from tripping over, causing a subarachnoid haemorrhage. Still feeling the effects of that one nearly 7 years on! Most painful thing(s) are the 11 discs I’ve herniated.

Watermelontea · 09/09/2020 23:21

Oh God I can only imagine, was it very painful? I remember the leaking, I was walking DC to nursery as I had no help and my leg was dripping with blood and gunk, though mine healed well after 2 1/2 months - I heal slowly they said.
Yeah that sounds similar in terms of how mine had to heal, I had to have it packed and slowly taken out and packed less and less. It was much, much smaller (and I imagine much less painful!) than yours, but just as deep I’d say.
Gosh, that must be such a lot that doesn’t seem like it’s old self, It’s a shame that there isn’t much that can be done for under the skin. Mine looks like a satsuma sized indentation so you can see where the regular tissue stops.

It’s my own fault that it got so far really, I kept insisting I was fine and didn’t want to bother anybody, I didn’t notice it properly, and neither did they they just thought it was a normal infection, until they examined me again after I’d been in for a night. I was on antibiotics for weeks and weeks afterwards and on the IV for 10 days. I didn’t know how serious it was until the doctor asked me if I knew why it was going up my body and I said no, and he said ‘the infection is spreading upwards towards the heart’

MsEllany · 09/09/2020 23:23

God @Brigante9 that’s pretty nasty!

I’ve never broken a bone, worst injury was 2nd degree tear maybe or when I was about 9 I fell off the climbing frame ripping into my leg. That caused a scar. I was too afraid to tell my mum as she was very much a ‘stop fussing!’ type parent!

ginsparkles · 09/09/2020 23:23

I broke my spine in two places and ruptured the ligaments in my back falling down the stairs.

Aposterhasnoname · 09/09/2020 23:25
@Aposterhasnoname Flowers I hope you’re safe and happier now. That’s horrific.
Remarried to a lovely man, thanks. And have had my revenge. Wont say how, but it was cold, and sweet.

bleuu · 09/09/2020 23:27

Sweet Jesus @Brigante9 Shock

MrsBeltane · 09/09/2020 23:28

Ruptured my Achilles tendon. Excruciatingly painful at the time.

Had to have a tendon from the sole of my foot grafted onto the tendon to repair it.

Matilda400 · 09/09/2020 23:30

Fractured my vertebrae when the loft ladder broke from under me and fell about 8 feet (it wasn't fitted properly)
That was July last year and even sitting here now I'm in pain, despite osteopath, physio and acupuncture.

@ginsparkles May I ask how long your recovery took?

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 09/09/2020 23:30

Not as bad as some of PPs but I bit my tongue almost completely off when I was a toddler. Apparently it was held on by a flap of skin. Broke my wrist. Scalded my chest making my mum coffee. I also burnt my fingers earlier this year. They were pretty nasty. I would post a picture but it won't for some reason Hmm

ginsparkles · 09/09/2020 23:35

@Matilda400 not an answer you will want to hear I'm afraid. I'm about 4 years on and whilst the pain is significantly better it hasn't gone. I can't be in a car for longer than a few hours without pain, walking/standing for long periods causes problems. Day to day I'm much better but will have flare ups. It's been like this for probably the past 12 months. So I was in regular pain for 3 years or so. I hope your recovery is smoother than mine!!

Brigante9 · 09/09/2020 23:36

@Watermelontea bloody hell, woman! 10 days on an Iv? That's crazy! I managed 10 minutes for another issue (phlebitis, surprisingly painful and my leg went grey in parts) but 10 days is incredibly serious!

Brigante9 · 09/09/2020 23:39

@MrsBeltane both of my parents have done this, I am perpetually in fear, they were in hip to toe plaster forever!

mineofuselessinformation · 09/09/2020 23:45

A birth injury.
Dc1 was a back to back birth, contractions every three minutes from the start. Around 36 hours from start to delivery.
For much of the time, they were resting on my cervix, low in the pelvis.
After birth, things weren't too bad (a bit of urine retention), but around 17 years later it came back to bite me on the bum.
Non-stop pain from waist to knees (I took codeine like Smarties). I ended up with surgeries for prolapsed rectum, bladder and uterus. I also had a pelvic floor repair. My prolapsed urethra cannot be repaired.
I'm pleased to say I'm pain free now (although I need surgery as my rectocele repair has completely failed now).
It wasn't so much concentrated pain, but the fact that it went on so long.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 09/09/2020 23:56

Wow! I thought some of mine were bad but having read this I feel they are rather minor now!

My most serious injury I would say was when I broke my back and my wrist (at the same time) being thrown from a horse. I spent 4 months in an upper body cast and had to have physio to re-learn to bend, I was very lucky to come out of it ok, it was touch and go for a couple of days as to whether my spinal cord had been clipped and mobility affected as I couldn’t move my legs at first but I don’t actually remember it being that painful. I just felt like I’d badly winded myself, it only became apparent something was well off when they tried to pull me up and I couldn’t move my legs. I’ve also broken my hand falling off a different horse when it refused a jump.

In terms of most painful though I’d say my current injuries despite being classed as less serious. Car accident at the start of the year, whiplash type injury its classed as. I suffered a few injuries but the worst being my shoulder and back. My shoulder injury led to a trapped nerve which was horrific pain and prevented sleep, its improved a lot but still not right and my back is still really painful and everyday is a struggle despite physio. 😢

Watermelontea · 09/09/2020 23:58

Yeah, it was all very unexpected and a bit crazy! I honestly thought I’d be in and out the same day, just with a follow up appointment!
I had to have the line moved twice as the cannula kept coming out, and wouldn’t go back in, but that was a PITA as my veins are shit, I’m lucky they didn’t try my foot as there was talk of it. 🤢
The worst bit for me was trying to sleep with it in, and being woken 4 hourly for a fresh bag, I love my sleep! Grin
Still though, yours is a much more gruesome experience and I don’t envy how much that must have hurt!

Watermelontea · 09/09/2020 23:58

Tore muscle ligaments and cartilage off my ribs after an unscheduled dismount at a comp. Got back on and we still came 4th.

Cracked ribs after hitting a very solid upright on a post and rail fence at canter buck. Had a bruise that went from my wrist, up my arm and down my ribs.

Put a huge hole in the muscle over my shoulder blade warming up before a lesson. Instructor asked me what happened. "Well you remember last lesson when you said if I did that I'd come off? Yep, I did that..." I couldn't lift my arm to the front, had to pick it up and put it where I wanted it. It's better now.

squeekums · 10/09/2020 00:36

@Brigante9 Damn you 'win"

My worst is a assumed broken foot, black, double size, now i cant wear some shoes i did cos it healed odd. Never once saw a dr for it lol

TurquoiseDress · 10/09/2020 00:36

I should be asleep but I cannot stop reading all these injury stories!!

1DoesNotSimplyWalkIntoMordor · 10/09/2020 01:04

Lisfranc fractures, it took 2 lots of surgery, 2 plates and pins, 1screw through the middle of my foot, damaged ligaments removed and bone grafts to fuse the 1st and 2nd TMT joints, bone grafts to repair 2nd metatarsal. The 1st TMT joint apparently has some degeneration in it and I will likely need more surgery. I'm still in pain with every step that I take but the scariest thing about it was that it could have ended up with amputation.

PhilSwagielka · 10/09/2020 01:07

Probably the time I self harmed really badly and had to go to hospital and gave it stitched up.

Susannahmoody · 10/09/2020 01:10

Emergency appendix removal during cesarean

DustyMaiden · 10/09/2020 01:12

I broke a fingernail. I once had a nasty fall but just got up no injuries.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/09/2020 01:15

I've broken both my little toes a few times, they are well deformed now! Was beaten up and had hairline fracture of my wrist when I was 19 (thanks ex bf) but nothing major. DH cracked his head open as a child and had stitches from front to back, which i only saw in his later years because he was so self conscious about the scar he kept his hair quite long until he was in his 50s.

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/09/2020 01:18

I fell through the ceiling of a house we were clearing.

I was black from the knees up to my waist.

I was also in a car accident. A Volkswagen polo decided to embed itself into my rib cage
