I haven't had any really serious injuries , just a few cuts and bruises

OP posts:
Heathercob · 10/09/2020 01:24

Broke both bones in my left leg falling off a cob on the beach and landing on my feet. Got a rod in my tibia and a small skin graft.

TheSunIsStillShining · 10/09/2020 01:25

I got hit by a car whilst on my bike as a kid and skid across gravel for meters. Didn't break anything, but 100s of gravel pieces had to be removed from my whole left side and around my knee I had enough, so still have 2 bigger, visible ones embedded. They are like very weird souvenirs :)
Had my thumb nail removed 2x as heavy steel doors were slammed on it (one building, one car).
Got bitten by a camel, but no trace of that by now. :)
Had 12 broken ribs, 1 broken wrist, 3 black eyes and 2 concussions in the course of 3 years (played skate hockey, not abusive ex)
Been on feeding tube for 3,5 weeks.
Nearly didn't make it after giving birth, touch and go said the doctors. I wasn't aware too much thankfully.
And despite all of these I am still in huge pain from a papercut :) which hand sanitizers remind me of regularly.

Finfintytint · 10/09/2020 01:29

Broken femur, fractured skull and burns due to car collision as a child. I dont remember this thankfully. Also tib/ fib ankle break / dislocation as a result of an assault at work plus several finger/ nose injuries also due to work.

k1233 · 10/09/2020 01:36

I cut my index finger nail in half vertically (full length from tip to cuticle) whilst making lunch for work one morning. Thought I'd just cut the skin till blood started pouring out of the nail. What do you do? It can't be stitched but needed medical attention. Not ambulance worthy, but I live by myself. Ended up having to drive very carefully to a Dr surgery to get it cleaned up and butterfly stitches and dressing applied to the nail. Once the shock wore off it really hurt! Good thing is my nails grow fast. Did it 1st Nov and it had grown out by mid Dec. Had a big dent at the base that had grown out by Feb.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 10/09/2020 01:44

Dislocated my knee cap 11 times in 3 years, dislocated my shoulder falling off a horse, broke my ankle and ruptured 3 ligaments (stepped if a small wall), fractured my other ankle tripping in the driveway, broke all the fingers in one hand, broke my thumb and popped it out of joint,

Hit a stationary bulldozer blade with my shin when my pony shied at something else cut it to the bone through my boots and pants rode home and mum freaked when she saw my grey pony had turned pink down one side. (I also got to go in the rescue helicopter which was cool)

Fractured my neck after rolling down sand dunes in a tractor tire and falling out halfway down

Jesus it looks bad when I write it down.

donnadenise · 10/09/2020 01:49

An untreated broken patella, I didn't know I'd done it. It took 3 years to heal.

Minimincepies · 10/09/2020 04:36

If this thread has taught me anything it is that I should NEVER get on a horse!

I've had a handful of broken bones, a few concussions, whiplash and a couple of dog bites but nothing to compare to most on here!

seayork2020 · 10/09/2020 04:41

I had a spider bite (well 99% sure it was from a spider) in my leg it started as an it then developed in a 10p size hole in my leg that went through to the bone.

It was equal gross and fascinating in equal measures

CSIblonde · 10/09/2020 05:34

Broke an elbow & x-rays showed numerous bits of bone had chipped off & were floating around loose ,which is apparently dangerous . Operation to remove them left me with 8inch scar that didn't heal properly for months on end & some internal suture thingy poking out. Still can't straighten my arm & get neck pain on that side now.

Brigante9 · 10/09/2020 06:55

@Watermelontea the leaking was bad, they shoved a sponge on the gap, attached to a vacuum machine which I had to carry round, along with a catheter. We joked on the ward about carrying our bodily fluids round. Another woman had lines coming out of her surgery site and a Sainsbury’s bag to carry the IV bag it collected in.

malificent7 · 10/09/2020 06:59

This is why i am scared of horses!

Hoppymclimpy · 10/09/2020 07:15

Oh my, some of these are really really painful sounding. Mine aren't quite as bad in comparison :
As a kid x2 fractured wrists x3 fractured tib x1 broken arm.... found out to have very weak bones!
From age 12 onward... Regular dislocating kneecaps. That smarts. Have had x3 knee stabilisation ops so far.

The most painful was the perforated stomach ulcer 3 years ago. Blue lighted to hospital, emergency op where 4 litres of pus were pumped put of my abdominal cavity. I woke up 9 days later in ICU after fighting sepsis. That one was a bit hairy!

EmbarrassedUser · 10/09/2020 07:20

I’d say broken rib after I fell flat on my chest during a seizure. I was in complete agony for months and even breathing was painful initially. Over the counter painkillers barely touched the sides 😭 So glad when that was healed.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 10/09/2020 07:28

I had a disagreement with a blue tit and it came out of it much better than I did.

Nothing broken but I was quite black and blue in places Shock

Ringsender2 · 10/09/2020 08:44

@Hoppymclimpy - that sounds like something for Sporners Corner

CokeyCola · 10/09/2020 08:56

@Brigante9. Did you ride again after that?

bengalcat · 10/09/2020 08:59

Fractured lumbar vertebrae coming off a horse - was glued together to fix it , home the next day - thankyou to Lancashire’s air ambulance and Prestons neurosurgical team . No long term effects .

60sbird · 10/09/2020 09:09

Wonderful ex threw a mug at my face, went for an X-ray and the radiologist sent me home Saying my face was just bruised, I got a phone call THREE days later saying a senior radiologist had looked at my X-ray and that my cheekbone was broken and that I needed an operation to fix it with a metal plate

Athrawes · 10/09/2020 09:13

Fractured skull, broken ribs, cracked vertebrae. All from different cycling or climbing accidents.
Worst is the elbow injury from swimming.

Watermelontea · 10/09/2020 09:15

@Brigante9 - Oh God I can’t even imagine, it must have felt like such a long time for recovery! I was wondering how such a large area can be packed, you poor thing! Did the horse totally miss the bone, or did you have a breakage too?
I have to say, the Sainsbury’s bag tickled me a bit.

Athrawes · 10/09/2020 09:15

Oh and I fell down a rabbit hole and sprained ankle. Xrayed to see if it was broken, it wasn't but they showed me 4 previous breaks which had been left untreated before - thanks parents

Nottherealslimshady · 10/09/2020 09:16

Got hit in the face with a golf club, somehow didnt break my cheekbone. Doctors were convinced it would be and were very mad I went to bed before going to A&E (long story- I was a child)
Got bit by a rat which got infected, had to have an operation to remove the infected tissue and iv antibiotics because the infection spread.
I've been in so many accidents and had so many injuries but miraculously have never broken a bone.

CMOTDibbler · 10/09/2020 09:22

Crushed everything in my mid hand backwards, dislocated my wrist through the small bones, tore all the ligaments in my wrist, shoved one bone in my forearm back through my elbow (breaking my elbow as well and tearing all the bits that hold your arm together) and through a nerve.
The only function I have below the elbow is half a thumb movement

Hoppymclimpy · 10/09/2020 09:25

@Ringsender2
It was a strange sensation waking up with drains either side of my belly button and looking at what was coming out 😳. Luckily I was so out of it on drugs that it didn't gross me out! The last thing I'd remembered was sitting in my office at school with a colleague, standing up and going 'shit, that hurts'....... and then I woke up!

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/09/2020 09:29

Dislocated coccyx when giving birth to my now 20 yr old dd. Got bitten by a horse on the boob when I was 15, hurt like hell.
