I haven't had any really serious injuries , just a few cuts and bruises

OP posts:
PolarBearStrength · 09/09/2020 22:30

A broken finger 😂 genuinely haven’t ever had more than bumps and scrapes other than that (not counting the cesarean wound!). Have a few self harm scars from my teenage years that in reflection probably could have done with being glued or stitched.

DH and I always used to go on about how strong our bones were... until he dislocated and broke his neck!

Purplewithred · 09/09/2020 22:31

Ooh @Brigante9 that is special!

My most serious injuries were caused by pushing out a very fat short 10lb baby in 3 contractions, but even they weren’t that bad.

Enchantmentz · 09/09/2020 22:31

Broken arm, as in both bones broken requiring pins. Have a large long scar on forearm and a cute one on the other.
Looks like they bogded the forearm then upped their game with the other side. 2nd worst is broken foot from getting hit by a car, trainer wrecked and a junk out of my foot, no other injury from getting hit by the car tho.

Polkadotties · 09/09/2020 22:32

@Brigante9 I knew there would be a horse related one and you win. Was your horse wearing studs?
I also own a 17hh Irish Draught Grin

Regularname · 09/09/2020 22:33

Most painful dislocated ankle

1Morewineplease · 09/09/2020 22:36

Walking past a boy at school as he was about to swing a punch at another boy and his elbow banged into my eye. This was decades ago, but for many years now , I've not really been able to see through that eye. Permanently damaged as is my eyelid.
Nothing like some of the trauma that I've read on here , though.

Watermelontea · 09/09/2020 22:40

Holy shit @Brigante9 that is absolutely terrifying! How long was the recovery and how did you found it regrew?
I had a fair sized chunk of flesh taken out of my leg and it still isn’t the same!
It was a little fatty cyst for years, but one scratch and it turned into an abscess and I got cellulitis which travelled up my leg, groin and stomach, I threw up in the triage area as I was so ill.

maddy68 · 09/09/2020 22:40

Broken tibia. The pain!!! And such a long recovery !

Brigante9 · 09/09/2020 22:41

@BanjoStarz I think yours is loads worse! I don’t have pain, really, just skin that feels stretched and a wobbly knee. I’ve partially ruptured various tendons around the knee post accident, it’s horrific. Having plates must be a pain. Do you set off airport alarms? Can you ride?

@Polkadotties, no studs, no, just shoes all round and a bloody heavy girl! Not my horse, who has far more brain than to stand on me! After all, he needs me to be able to walk to his feed bin!

SecretWitch · 09/09/2020 22:47

A ladder fell on my head at work. I ended up with a serious concussion. I have post concussion syndrome. Going on three years since the accident and I still drop words when I write. My short term memory has also been affected.

I fractured my knee falling of those high bar stools.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/09/2020 22:48

Dislocated my knee climbing over a fence... My foot got stuck, I lost my grip... And was hanging upside down. Unfortunately it was the first aid assistance that did the serious damage.
It will never recover fully.

JacktomyDaniel · 09/09/2020 22:48

@dudsville best comment ever 😂 I'm a total weirdo about nails. Tore one off my finger once. Genuinely would rather break a bone 😳 nails make me so squeamish.

Brigante9 · 09/09/2020 22:49

@Watermelontea it took 4 months for the hole behind the knee where the skin graft failed to close up. It had to heal from the bottom, so 2 inches down into the leg. Disgustingly, it leaked so I had to have a towel on my chair at work for ages. I got bored of nurses poking sticks in it!

There”s a major chunk missing, very obvious if I’m not wearing loose trousers, big V shape going in. The skin graft covered the hole but that’s all it did. Took a long time for the donor site to heal up, I think the surgeon was a bit brutal!

I’ve had cellulitis a few times, bloody pita! The throbbing is a demon. Having it track so far is horrendous. I bet you had a shit ton of antibiotics!

CardsforKittens · 09/09/2020 22:51

I was punched in the face several times by a complete stranger - he’d taken a variety of drugs and was off his head. Broke my nose and knocked out several of my teeth. And all without any kind of provocation - just a random attack in the street. Wanker.

Lucyccfc68 · 09/09/2020 22:51

No where near as bad as @Brigante9 but I did end up having 5 months off work.

Went to hospital to get a lump in my breast looked at and as the consultant was doing the fine needle biopsy, he managed to puncture my lung (4 times). It pretty much collapsed a day later and I had to have a chest drain put in. I would rather give birth than go through having a chest drain again.

Only positive to it was that I lost 3 stone in weight and fitted perfectly into my wedding dress, which the shop had ordered in the wrong size.

Doliv63 · 09/09/2020 22:52

Dislocated shoulder and broken arm whilst dog walking ...the pain was off the scale!!

Prettybluepigeons · 09/09/2020 22:58

I have broken my ankle in two places, my tibia on two separate occasions, multiple toes, my hand, one of the vertebrae in my spine. Spine fracture was excruciating. You don't realise how much you use your back to breathe, move everything.

Brianmaysmagicfingers · 09/09/2020 22:59

Snapped my Achilles’ tendon clean through. That wasn’t much fun.

LuluBellaBlue · 09/09/2020 23:03

I broke my back!!
Snapped in half on a Head on car accident, with two minor fractures either side. It was an unstable fracture and I’d got up and out of the car. Was told I’d likely never walk again. After 6 days they operated and fused me back together again!

I also smashed my foot up and that took far longer to heal and was more painful! I’ve made a full recovery now :)

LuluBellaBlue · 09/09/2020 23:03

Haha snapped in half is a bit dramatic 😂😂😂

Aposterhasnoname · 09/09/2020 23:06

Broken fingers (all ten, hammers can do that) nose, arm (two places) ribs (3) split lip, two black eyes, concussion.

Thanks EXDH, and for the record, I didn’t wake you up on purpose.

QueenPaws · 09/09/2020 23:09

Probably cauda equina. Arrow points to the crushed disc Blush second pic is the stitches
They operated before I was paralysed, by the time of the op I could only walk by dragging my leg behind me and couldn't lift it when lay down. The total lack of feeling was a relief from the screaming pain TBH Grin
The neurosurgeon told me people with a disc like mine aren't walking about usually, 5hr op and he said I was wilful. Walked an hour post op and back on a horse 9 weeks later

Also broken both ankles and feet but they were pretty minor. Trapping my finger in a door age 5, fainting back through a glass wall and then having a fit was a bit spectacular

QueenPaws · 09/09/2020 23:10

P.s that's why I bang on about cauda equina - I drove myself to a&e and walked in Blush so it's not always the dramatic thing people think. The only symptom was lying in bed and a sensation that felt like warm water running down my legs. Didn't think it warranted an ambulance HmmGrin

huuskymam · 09/09/2020 23:14

I broke my coxes falling from a horse, was laid up in bed for weeks over the Christmas. It was over 20 years ago and I haven't been on a horse since.

Brigante9 · 09/09/2020 23:18

@Aposterhasnoname Flowers I hope you’re safe and happier now. That’s horrific.
