What is the point

In living, if we aren't allowed to live.

Human beings are sociable animals. We went into lockdown to save the NHS from being overwhelmed

Yeah, well that happened months ago

I don't see the point in going on any more - government on a power trip. My life curtailed for nothing

Waste of time

the NHS was never overwhelmed

@SantaClaritaDiet

The thing is, you only get to decide how bad the rules are for you. Not for other people. You have no idea what experience others are having.

that's not the point. It's pretending that suddenly we have "rules" and have lost our freedom that is childish. WHEN did you ever have absolute freedom - even if ,as the French would say, your freedom would only stop where others start.

I can see the inconvenience - I experienced the exact same restrictions as everyone else - but the sudden lack of "freedom"? Hmm Come on.

Well yes, we obviously have less freedom now than we did before. I imagine that’s what is being complained about.
SueEllenMishke · 10/09/2020 16:07

It is shit. Really shit.
I'm trying to stop reading all the posts where people are complaining about the new rules coming in on Monday because I live in an area where we haven't been able to mix households for weeks and weeks ....
Socialising with 5 other people would be a dream for me right now. I miss my friends.

amusedtodeath1 · 10/09/2020 16:08

That should be OP, not wish don't know what happened there.

3rdNamechange · 10/09/2020 16:11

I wish people would stop saying hospitals at half empty. They are not. We are at normal levels. When the flu and norovirus hit and Covid we will be in trouble.

Shockingstocking · 10/09/2020 19:46

Wish, I just read that you said you're not suicidal just angry! WTF!! So you're using serious mental health issues to prove a point? You're taking it???? That's just fucking awful OP. I felt for you, but I won't make the same mistake again.angry

This.

Shockingstocking · 10/09/2020 19:46

Without the wish mistake but not my error to correct.

Shockingstocking · 10/09/2020 19:52

You're allowed to be sad, of course you are. But pretending you're questioning living and making statements that are known to be associated with suicide when you're apparently just 'angry' is dangerous and manipulative.

People who actually need help should see a GP. They most certainly can stabilise mood if needed or pick up the phone and speak to a psychiatrist if they're out of their depth and overwhelmed, or advise the patient to go to A and E where there will be the opportunity for help if they're suicidal.

I have no problem with people who are not suicidal but just angry having a moan wherever they feel like it. But pretending you're in a place where you're not is harmful to people who really are in that place.

Stop the manipulation, please.

gypsywater · 10/09/2020 19:55

So fucking manipulative to pretend you're suicidal to make a point. Fucks sake.

Shockingstocking · 10/09/2020 20:12

Unfortunately I think this appalling behaviour is quite widespread.

Shockingstocking · 10/09/2020 20:16

Covid isn't the only killer and it is far less dangerous to children than lots and lots of other things

I agree with you there. And that is exactly why we need to make it front and centre of the agenda. There is a massive threat to vaccination and screening programmes in developing countries because Covid will drain available resources while it is still a problem.

saveforthat · 10/09/2020 20:36

My parents and grandparents were called upon to fight in the world wars. There was no working from home then or internet to keep in touch/shop etc. I think what we are being asked to do is pretty easy really compared to their experiences.

At the risk of getting flack for resurrecting a zombie thread I'm keen to know, how is everyone that responded doing?
Has anyone changed their opinion on lock downs?
