Or is this an unusual bra size?

Just put my measurements into boob or bust and it came back with 32G. Is it just me or is that an unusual size. Didn't think my boobs were that big. I currently wear a 34 or 36 D or DD depending on progress or pregnancy/breastfeeding/weight loss/gain.
Where would I even buy 32G. I'm a skint student so can't be spending ££ on 1 bra!

I'd never heard of boob or bust or any way of measuring other than the old fashioned add 4 inches. So I just did the measuring (you can tell I'm wfh and procrastinating) and came out at 30JJ. I'm wearing 34GG, which feels ok though I do get some shoulder aches, but I'm not sure how I could go down 2 band sizes and be able to do up the hooks and breathe? Has anyone else found a completely different bra size from doing this that made them more comfortable?

Straycatblue · 07/09/2020 15:53

Asda have started doing a bra range for bigger busted ladies with narrower backs and larger cup sizes up to J cup, I used to have to spend a fortune to get a tshirt bra in size 32G from either specialist bra shops or debenhams, now I get t shirt bras from ASDA for £4

I wonder if people who can't do their backs set their shoulder straps too high up.
The back should sit lower than what you're used to if you add 4 to the size in inches.
It should look horizontal if you look at your side on a mirror.

Because I don't have any fat to squeeze and I have always been able to do my back with the same size as in inches.
Except a little bit with a black bikini top.
I also remember some pps complaining a while ago that black bras tend to come smaller or tighter than other bras. Could this be an issue?
Worst case, go up one back size.

Lweji · 07/09/2020 15:57

Also, it may help to go up a size in the cup.
You might have underestimated your cup size when measuring yourselves, and that will mean that the back will feel tighter.

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 15:59

Asda only start from back 32. I wouldn't say they cater for the narrower back people

QueenPaws · 07/09/2020 16:01

I'm a 34K and it looks fairly average on me as a size 16. I tend to like elomi plunge bras, especially the Matilda one

The problem with these shops is that their larger cup sizes are all for larger backs too.
I only found 4 32G.
No 30s.

rubydoobydoo · 07/09/2020 16:05

I'm a 30FF and have found some nice ones on ebay for a good price. The only places I've ever found my size on the high street are Debenhams and Bravissimo - I'd recommend getting a fitting at Bravissimo to check you have the right size too.

IndiaMay · 07/09/2020 16:12

I'm a 28G. Now that's impossible to find bras in

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 16:12

@IndiaMay me too!

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 16:13

Mind you I've put a few pounds on since lockdown so we'll see what they say when I go next!!

GunsAndShips · 07/09/2020 16:22

The misconception that anything above a d = large breasts persists.

I'm a 28F and have pretty small boobs. In fact, I am wearing a bralette today and often do without issue. My 13yo dd is a DD cup (26 back) and she had the utterly horrifying experience in M&S of overhearing two total pricks who were shopping with their wives guffawing over anything under a DD not being worth it. A DD is a "proper handful" apparently. Bleurgh.

aintnothinbutagstring · 07/09/2020 16:24

Bob or Bravissimo recommend a 34 band for me, which as a comfortable tape measurement of 35, 34 is too tight, and then a FF or G cup? Haha, the biggest cup size I've gone to is a 34F which still gapes a little and then too tight underneath that it's cutting into soft tissue, not good or safe. A 36 band (I can fasten on first hook) is better for me with ideally a D cup but DD is ok. I'd rather go for comfort and safety (a too tight underwired bra imo is a big no no). And too tight bras look awful if you have a bit of fat around your back, hanging over, yeah your boobs might look sky-high and fab but the back not so great. Trial and error I guess.

pickingdaisies · 07/09/2020 16:37

Bravissimo decided that, from 34c, I was actually either 28 or 30 e, and settled on 30e. Turns out I can't actually breathe in them, so now I wear 32dd. And I often add bra extenders just for the added stretch when I breathe in. But I find it really difficult to find soft bras (no underwires) in my size. Even if they nominally do my bra size, they will never be in stock. Or they will only carry my size in a handful of styles. Just found the same with that Asda link above.

@TheRealHousewife

I did a boob or bust measure and ordered on the back of that (after reading rave reviews on MN) Everything had to go back. I can’t remember exact sizes but usually I’m a 34G ... their site suggested something like a 30J .... band that tight unable to fasten. Cup’s humongous even for my very generous Twins 😮

Back to my 34Gs :)

I’m interested to hear this because I tried the BOB way of measuring and came out at 28H. I’ve worn 32 band before but often find them uncomfortably tight. Decided to try Rigby and Peller and they put me in 34D which are beautifully comfortable. I think the answer really is to get fitted and try on several styles.

Exactly! 32 is a pretty average back size. Even then, many supermarket bras stop at 32D. Or their bigger sizes start at 34D and upwards. 🙄
Lweji · 07/09/2020 17:08

A well know Italian brand started publicising bigger cup bras.
So, I went in to see what it was about.
I ended up advising the shop assistant that she should be buying in our equivalent of Bravissimo. Narrower back and larger breasts than her own shop caters for. Grin

strivingtosucceed · 07/09/2020 17:25

It's not unusual OP, I vary from 32G to 32H depending on the style and fit. I would say your clothes size is unusual though. I wear a 10 or small 12 so would think the 32 band is a bit small.

strivingtosucceed · 07/09/2020 17:26

Also I get all my bras from m&d, debenhams and ann summers in the sales. Way too expensive otherwise. I have to admit, Ann Summers is the only place I can get bras that don't make me look like a granny.

haba · 07/09/2020 18:15

Sainsbury's start at a 30 back...but you have to order into store, as they rarely have 30s out on display.

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 18:18

The 30 only goes up to a B cup according to the Sainsbury's website

It's ridiculous when you think about it. Most women with a 32 back size will be a size 12 or 14. That means that, while they sell clothes for size 8 and 10 women, and possibly 6, they don't sell bras for them Confused.

WaffleCash · 07/09/2020 18:35

I surprised you didn’t think your boobs were big. I’m a 34F and have spent the last 40 years with men and women goggling at my boobs and talking about how big they are.

I'm a 30f/30ff and I've always had comments about having huge boobs so I too am always a bit bemused when people say they've recently found out they're a 30ff/32f or similar but have never considered themselves to have a large chest.

woodhill · 07/09/2020 18:38

I feel huge at 30 f as I have narrow shoulders, they have got larger over the years'.
