Or is this an unusual bra size?

Just put my measurements into boob or bust and it came back with 32G. Is it just me or is that an unusual size. Didn't think my boobs were that big. I currently wear a 34 or 36 D or DD depending on progress or pregnancy/breastfeeding/weight loss/gain.
Where would I even buy 32G. I'm a skint student so can't be spending ££ on 1 bra!

I measure a 32G on boob or bust. I don't think it's super unusual.
I tend to wear that or more often 32FF depending on the fit of the bra.
I am wryly smiling at people suggesting you try a supermarket for bras. In my experience that would be pointless. I've very rarely found anything I like in my size!

Definitely try Brastop as I get most of mine from there. They have lots of decently priced, pretty bras. A lot are in bright colours if that's your kind of thing.
I have a couple from M&S as well.

Covert20 · 07/09/2020 11:29

Not to me - it’s my bra size...😂

minnieok · 07/09/2020 11:30

32's are hard to buy cheaply above a d, dd is 32e. I'm 34 f but have a higher budget for such items (dd is a student)

toastfiend · 07/09/2020 11:32

I used to think I was a 36C after having my DS. Measured by Bravissimo (and BoB) as a 32G and never looked back. I didn't find bras too hard to find at that size. Bravissimo are pricey but have some good sales - where I got most of my bras. I'm a 30F now and I find that size a lot harder to find in stores other than Bravissimo. Very few places seem to cater for much beyond a C cup below a 32 band. It's a shame.

minnieok · 07/09/2020 11:32

Ps in bob I'm a 32j but it leaves a horrible red mark is is bordering on painful, I'm sticking to bravissimo measurements

Covert20 · 07/09/2020 11:32

@DemolitionBarbie

WTF have I just read?! When had anyone ever suggested having boobs over a D cup is slutty?! I appreciate you’re saying it’s not, but who is?! After 25 years of being an E or larger I have NEVER EVER heard anything like it! 🤯

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 11:41

I know bravissimo is pricy but like pp said it's way better having a little amount of good fitting bras than loads of bad fitting.
Also personally I want to try them on and get the fitter to look at bravissimo so I wouldn't order online but I guess lots of people would
I feel a bit shit at the minute I've put a few pounds on and I think I'm wearing the wrong size now. I hate it when my bra is old or not right I know I look better and feel better in the right one

Crocky · 07/09/2020 11:41

@Seeline women should not be adding 4” to the back size. That would leave you with no support and old advice like this is why so many women are wearing the wrong size.

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 11:42

Also even in different brands you won't necessarily fit or you need a different size

Seeline · 07/09/2020 11:49

I know you don't add 4" on, but if you are buying in M&S you have to because that's how they make their bras. If you measure eg a 36" bra in M&S it will actually measure as a 32" back size. Follow the fitting guide from Bravissimo and the M&S bras will actually fit - they are just not called the same size as you would buy from other shops who correctly just use the back size you actually measure!

Pukkatea · 07/09/2020 11:53

Honestly, for me this new way is a load of rubbish. My apparent 'proper' bra size doesn't do up around my back and the cups gape, and any band size lower than my old plus 4 measurement leaves me with the band cutting into my skin, leaving horrendous marks and causing pain. Completely don't get it.

LakieLady · 07/09/2020 11:55

Another vote for Debenhams (naffly named) Gorgeous range of bras.

They wash and wear well, and have a sale on atm. Some styles are £17.60 for 2, which I think is an absolute bargain for big bras!

Have you seen a fitter?
combatbarbie · 07/09/2020 11:57

Don't bother with supermarkets, they don't start bigger cups til 34/36.

I get mine from pour moi, generally in the sale. I was a 34dd, boob or bust makes me 32ff and I do feel better in that size.

steppemum · 07/09/2020 11:59

Don't mess about trying to get a cheap supermarket bra. Even if you do find the size they aren't true to size and don't fit.

not necessarily
I wear asad bras. I found one I liked and ended up buying about10.
I find that in any shop, I can try on 10 bras in 'my size' and only 2 of them fit properly and only one is comfortable. That is the same if it is Bravissimo or Asda. There is no substitute for trying them all on until you find one you like.

Pukkatea · 07/09/2020 12:02

@Lweji yes, after my own incident with the bra that wouldn't fasten, I went to one fitter who measured me as a size that cut into my back, and a second who measured me as the same size I've been fitted as previously and wearing for years, which seems fine and comfortable but is apparently now wrong?

D4rwin · 07/09/2020 12:05

M&S EVERY bra i liked the look of today had a 32G but not a 34G in store.

Lweji · 07/09/2020 12:06

@Pukkatea

If it gives you good support and shape, then it's the right one for you.
That's why trial and error and observation are better than just measurements.
Good shops don't go by measurements but by looking at how the different bras fit on the person.

Lweji · 07/09/2020 12:10

It also depends on the boobs.
Mine are quite heavy bottom and need proper support.
Some red marks are normal for how tight they need to be.

Others are more like half cups and may need minimal support.

But the first few times wearing a well supporting bra can feel weird and too tight (like when I started wearing proper bras again after lockdown Grin).

Unicornflakegirl · 07/09/2020 12:16

I bought bras in Bravissimo on the advice of one of their fitters and was left with sore red marks like @Pukkatea but I persevered because it was Bravissimo the supposed holy grail but gave up when it actually dug in so much my boob bled.
They measured me a 28H so similar-ish size to the OP.

DaffodilsAndDandelions · 07/09/2020 12:17

Thankyou for all your help. I have ordered some from Debenhams in the sale 🙂 fingers crossed they fit. I am a little apprehensive as I'm used to a bigger band smaller cup and none wired. It will be nice to wear something that makes my boobs look like boobs and not just stop me showing a nipple thru a tshirt!

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 12:18

I'm a 28h and I shop at bravissimo.
I think if you'd have told them they'd have sorted you out with another bra free because they fitted you

purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 12:18

What clothes size are you

SorrelForbes · 07/09/2020 12:19

I'm sorry but this isn't true. A bra with a 32" band should 'stretch' to 32", regardless of whether it's made by Debenhams, Bravissimo or M&S. The latter have some shocking quality control issues with their bras but generally they will fit in the same way as bras of other brands (they do tend to miss out the FF and GG sizes though), The issue with M&S is that they will measure you at 32" and add 4" to get you into a 36" band. They will tell you that is because that's how their bras fit but it's complete rubbish! They just want to squeeze everyone into a narrow size range to keep costs down.

Apart from the quality control issues and the annoyance of having to remember that they miss out some cup sizes, there's nothing wrong per se with M&S bras. It's just their fitting methods that are bonkers!

combatbarbie · 07/09/2020 12:21

@OP it will feel tight to begin with but you should notice the cup/support element straight away. Bare with the initial adjustment discomfort, it is worth it.
