Every time you refresh the page you’re presented with a picture of a person. But none of the people are real. The thought of the manipulation and repercussions are mind-boggling to me. It makes me really uncomfortable.

Yes, in this case, the discriminator is presented either with a generated image or one of about 70,000 portraits taken from flickr, and has to decide whether the image is real or not.

I guess that's why most of the people are white and have perfect teeth?

Yes, exactly - the generator will produce things that look like Flickr portraits, not things that necessarily represent the diversity of real people (because it's never seen that).

Imagine if the computer generated someone who looks just like you or someone you know. That would be really creepy!

It's quite fun if you play a game with it.. first one is your first future grandchild, second one second etc, third: you in the next life, fourth, your oldest child's future partner, fifth: someone who will change your life..

That's like one of those images created deliberately that look fine on first glance but get more horrific the longer you look at them.

It's interesting how the eyes nearly always show a catch light or reflection but the glasses never do
