To think hate speach against mums on Instagram / YouTube should be make a crime

With social media it's allowed amazing ways to communicate with people. But it's also allowed trolling and harrasment to happen at unprecedented scale.

Sites like tattle life and increasing Mumsnet allow people to troll women that make their living out of social media and the current rules in place don't allow the police to identify and bring to justice the trolls. You can pretty much say what you like including bullying someone over their appearance and their parenting with zero repreciousons. It's not on and needs to change.

I could go on but aibu to think these rules need to change? People are taking their own lives and the government did not approve my petition to afford people on social media greater human rights protection.

Well that went well Grin

I looked back through the other threads and found absolutely nothing that constituted hate speech. People are allowed to feel sorry for kids being forced to grow up in public. And they may say they 'consent' but who knows how they will feel about the parent in the future.

I follow 'thebirdspapaya' on insta and love her content, sometimes I worry how her kids will feel in 10 years having been so exposed. That's not hate speech though Hmm

Maybe explain to Susie that if this is her chosen venture she needs to be able to accept the tough comments sometimes and focus on the positive. And on the off chance there is something genuinely terrible to report to the police

thecognoscenti · 08/09/2020 08:09

Incredible scenes.

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 08/09/2020 08:13

@Bekindnotabully Susie has no idea you are posting? I'm sure some of her loyal followers will screen shot everything and pass it on so it can be used to gain sympathy/fit some narrative

Pourthetea · 08/09/2020 08:39

If susie doesn't know your posting where did the discount code come from then ??

Geggs · 08/09/2020 08:43

Ooooooo
StealthNinjaMum · 08/09/2020 08:49

So is this all a publicity stunt for Susie? I thought it was a misguided attempt to garner sympathy but I'm shocked if it was to promote Susie.

AlternativePerspective · 08/09/2020 08:52

Surely this should be removed as spam then?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/09/2020 08:55

Ah the old private message conversation eh? 'So many of you guys have been pm'ing me asking what my lipstick is so I'm going to advertise it for 20 mins' etc I think the world is really starting to get fed up with 'influencers' and their manipulative tricks.

Reads straight out the influencer playbook.... ‘so many of your DM’d me about this!’ No they didn’t!
HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 08/09/2020 09:04

@Bekindnotabully I think, by the discount code comment, you have outed yourself as either Susie herself or one of her stylists

Geggs · 08/09/2020 09:07

Why can’t you see OP that this is the problem. There’s no hate campaign, it’s badly advised business decisions and a complete lack of being able to deal with any constructive criticism or negative feedback.

Actually didn't SBS have a thread removed because it was a TAT ... if im not mistaken is this a TAT too ?

Mustnotbeleftblank · 08/09/2020 09:46

@Bekindnotabully

Susie has no knowledge that I'm posting here and her new venture is going very well with over 700 paid subs in a few days. She doesn't need pr just an end to the hate.

I will never post again.

Thanks to the 5% of people with a heart. I had the most beautiful pm conversation with someone here and I ended up giving them an exclusive discount code for a well known shop. This is what happens when you're nice, you attract good things.

Was the discount code for the shop that sells dead squirrel decanters?

What a hustle Grin

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 08/09/2020 09:52

@Parentinglark

I think you need to have a conversation with your friend Susie about what you have written here as whether you intended to or not you have dragged her & her business into a misleading and poorly thought out campaign. She should be aware of the potential damage you have done. I would be distraught if a friend of mine had dragged my business into a rambling on MN and conducted themselves the way you have done here

I do think you should consider this op. I've gone from knowing nothing about this person to knowing she runs a business which provides questionable service and who reacts aggressively and unpleasantly when her customers raise their concerns, all from your thread.

StealthNinjaMum · 08/09/2020 10:04

@AlternativePerspective to be honest I’m baffled. If this is an attempt at spam it’s completely failed and I would keep it live. Susie’s followers have accused mumsnetters of bullying and trolling and sharing photos of their customers and got Mumsnet threads removed, so it should stay even though it didn’t go the way op wanted.

AlternativePerspective · 08/09/2020 10:13

Stealth, yep, I see that now having read through the majority of the thread.

I haven’t reported it, and I suppose it could be a warning how not to promote your business. Wink.

Beachcomber1 · 08/09/2020 10:28

I’m going to be so disappointed when this thread gets zapped Grin
I’m guessing “real life concerns”?

I have over 28k Instagram followers. That number has grown organically over the years as I set up a page about a particular interest I have where I live, and it’s attracted like-minded individuals who either live here too, or are planning a visit. I don’t really “work” it.

I do get offered a lot of free shit. I turn 99% of it down. If I think something is interesting and want to find out more I’ll accept it, especially if it means I can see it sooner than I would through normal means, but I make it clear that accepting it doesn’t mean endorsement, or even a mention.

All this “oh I’m so surprised at this freebie that turned up on my doorstep that just happens to be the exact right size and has all my children’s first and middle names engraved on it” shit really annoys me. Nothing ever turns up at a doorstep unless the sender is given your address, or unless you put your address out there, or give enough personal information so that you’re traceable.

I’ve also done some paid promotions with some brands I do really like and want to promote over the years. Nothing major, just a few clearly labeled sponsored stories here and there.

I’ve never once received a nasty PM or comment. I haven’t been “bullied” or harassed. Nobody has attempted to turn up at my house, or threatened violence against my family.

I’ve never once appeared on any of my instagram content. The most you’ll get is maybe a snippet of my voice or a glimpse of my hand. You can see what city I live in, but nothing more specific. I don’t have my real name on there. I don’t feature anything to do with my friends, family, or personal life. I don’t mention whether or not I’m in a relationship, have children, what I do for a living.

I’m convinced that the last two paragraphs are directly linked to each other.

ZezetteEpouseX · 08/09/2020 10:33

What a hustle

Grin Grin Grin

People trying to stir up hatred and drama to boost their so-called business only deserve to fail.. as they already are. The "any publicity is good publicity" is so dated and cringey.

(and OBVIOUSLY it's not Susie I am talking about here, in case it's not clear)

MrsToothyBitch · 08/09/2020 12:12

I ended up off work today after an accident, and since I've been unable to walk or do anything, I've started to look at some of the threads about Susie on tattle. I found the demonic smile comment- which is a bit mean, and there are a couple of other comments so far which seem a little personal, but the majority of the comments seem mild- not necessarily nice to read about oneself but needed. They critique her business and ethics and fashion background and mention her "tribe" of followers bullying people who ask legitimate questions and her blocking people. Some of them deride her style/styling - which is a matter of opinion, and which is perfectly reasonable.

There are some comments which I would not have put on a public forum myself - I do think there are some things better left unsaid-, but these were a minority. It still hurts to read if it's personal but again, people are allowed to air their opinions and if you put something like your personal style up for discussion, you do have to understand that people may have a different opinion to you and it may not be glowing.

WithGusto · 08/09/2020 13:40

@MrsToothyBitch I've just had a browse at her install...never heard of her and never seen her pop up organically.....now I know why.

OP my best advice for Susie would be to ignore and keep her had down whilst banking the cash.....before people realise the inevitable. Lordy 😬😬😬😬😬😬

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/09/2020 15:29

The discount code was clearly from hotukdeals!

It's very important to have a good example of doing something badly, helps you avoid making the same mistakes yourself!

It’ll have been for one of pals that sells jewellery or clothes that she’s always advertising and plugging. But not declaring as ads.
MrsToothyBitch · 08/09/2020 21:01

@WithGusto I have to admit that I rather concur. Most of the criticism seemed to me to be a fair- if overwhelmingly negative review of her services and her conduct online /brand engagement. She should take the cash whilst she can then run, I think- before the bad reviews sink her and her customers and online fans army of clones drop away. The sad thing is that whilst instagrammers and styles do naturally wax & wane in popularity, she could offset so much of that by just listening to her feedback.

I'm also not very into her style, although that's on me.
