Anxiously waiting for a important call...

Had an interview Wednesday for my dream job, was told i would get a call today telling me if i was successful. What time do you think they will call before? The wait is killing me... i thought they would call first thing and put us out our misery. Was 7 people interviewed for the role. Do you think they would call the successful or unsuccessful candidates first?

I would say they won't ring until late afternoon and will ring successful people first in case they turn it down then they can offer it to another candidate. In my experience they may not call you until Monday if you are second or third choice as they may be waiting on confirmation from their first/second choice. Good luck!

Thank you for replying... i know not the most exciting thread! Driving myself insane waiting :(

We call preferred candidate and definite nos first

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 04/09/2020 12:02

Agree. They always ring the successful candidate first because if they turn it down they offer it to someone else. That doesnt mean you havent got it, OP, but I would assume you'd hear by at least 2 -3pm ish if you were successful as its a bit daft to wait until end of day to wait for a positive response

Spied · 04/09/2020 12:03

Exactly what Gigia said.
Good luck

RuthW · 04/09/2020 12:10

I would say very late. We would ring around 6pm.

LemonBreeland · 04/09/2020 12:10

Good luck, hope it goes your way.

tectonicplates · 04/09/2020 12:12

Also the preferred candidate might say "Could you give me a few days to decide?" so everyone else would have to wait then.

anxywait · 04/09/2020 12:13

RuthW why on earth would they leave it til 6pm? 🤣 why wouldnt you just call 9am and put everyone out their misery?? Thanks everyone for the good lucks

Hopefully you get the 1pm phone call to say you have got the job.

ChangeThePassword · 04/09/2020 12:16

The latest call after a successful interview I've had was 7pm.

Sometimes its late to fit around other work commitments, and sometimes as you are more likely to get hold of them when they are not at work.

Good luck!

Butterflyonmyshoulder · 04/09/2020 12:16

Good luck

anxywait · 04/09/2020 12:18

Thanks rainbow... If i don't hear by 5pm then would it be ok if i call/text to ask for an update? I sort of know the business owner personally so i have their mobile number and she has sent me a few texts about the interview. She said she would decide last night and let everyone know today...

I had this before with a job I was given—took until maybe 6pm. Sometimes they need to get sign off from a director or HR who can take ages.
Good luck!

I would say wait until the morning to text, although I don’t think it’s a huge deal either way

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/09/2020 12:46

Fingers crossed for you!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/09/2020 12:48

My DH has been on several panels and once ended up giving the candidates the news in the evening. Can't remember why though.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 04/09/2020 12:48

If i don't hear by 5pm then would it be ok if i call/text to ask for an update?
No. They told you they'll let you know.

HollowTalk · 04/09/2020 12:49

Best of luck!

ladymuck111 · 04/09/2020 12:50

They'll call at 2:53pm

Lockdowners · 04/09/2020 12:52

No. Don’t get in touch with them. They may just be busy and unable to call you til later (happens in my work a lot- you can be in back to back meetings til 4 or 5pm). They would definitely let the successful candidate know first but that doesn’t mean anything really.

Lockdowners · 04/09/2020 12:52

Oh and good luck! Hope you get it

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 04/09/2020 12:53

We have an appointable threshold in terms of scoring for each role, those below it are contacted first as even if everyone else turned it down they still wouldn't be offered, then we contact the appointable candidates to tell them they are appointable if there are any further vacancies in the same role in the next twelve months and then we call the highest and make an offer. This is because we have a lot of internal applications (public sector) and if you contact the offerable candidate first those who didn't get it tend to find out on the grapevine (unbelievably fast) before you can call them to tell them they were unsuccessful. Only once in eleven years have I known someone to turn down a role and that was because their husband had been offered a promotion between interview and offer and of course his career progression came first....... In that instance we called the next highest scorer and said we told you we'd contact you if a vacancy became available in the next twelve months, we have a vacancy. All interviewed candidates get a phone call.

AlwaysCheddar · 04/09/2020 12:57

They may have not phoned you yet just because they’re really busy with something else and their HR team are rubbish, so you’re going to need to wait this one out unfortunately.

KatherineJaneway · 04/09/2020 12:58

No, don't chase them. Someone could be ill etc and the call is delayed. Wait until you hear.
