Following on from the cordless thread.
I am looking for a new vacuum, (and washing machine, dryer, iron 😂😭) my old dyson is usless, dc40.
I really liked my dc07 upright for power, versatility and reliability. However it eas ancient, broken and too heavy.
Are there any good vacuums out there that can deal with dog hair, very long hair, muck and dirt (kids) and occasionally cleaning the decking.
I've looked at shark and dyson butvreviews seembto be either great or crap. My dc40 has all the suction of an out of breath smoker 😂

I've got the Dyson V11 Absolute, and its fab - I have 6 cats, and it does the job very well. Or, the alternative would be to buy a refurbished older vacuum - dh found me a refurbished, pre EU regs Miele Cat and Dog 2200W cylinder vacuum on Ebay.

GlassOfPimms · 02/09/2020 20:21

Hope there's something better than the awful second hand Dyson I was given by my DM recently. It was absolutely useless so I'd been looking at a new one but like you, OP I'm put off by the reviews.

I'm now hanging on to my ancient, heavy, upright hoover for dear life! It's so powerful it actually pulls up my underlay if I'm not careful!!

rabbitheadlights · 02/09/2020 20:26

Henry

SavoyCabbage · 02/09/2020 20:26

We've got the Miele cat and dog one which practically sucks the floorboards up. It's not cheap but I reckon ours is at least 15 years old.

bloodywhitecat · 02/09/2020 20:29

My Miele is on it's last legs so I am looking for a new vacuum too, I am looking at a Shark but are they really all that? I had a Henry, hated it, bloody thing fell over at will. We foster so have children in the house and we have a dog.

Vodkacranberryplease · 02/09/2020 20:30

Blame the EU. They kept forcing them to be made less and less powerful. I've got a Miele cat and dog that could lift carpet stashed away and even though I've got another newer Miele I'm keeping it because they don't make them like they used to!

fucking meddling beaurocrats. People as kid rate the Henry for suction power too. Dysons lose suction too

iamme21 · 02/09/2020 20:39

I have a shark liftaway and it’s the best vacuum I’ve ever had. In a house with a dog and theee long haired people. I would love the anti hair wrap one but there nothing wrong with the one I’ve got so can’t justify a new one. Not sure about on decking though?

Dinocan · 02/09/2020 20:42

Miele. We’re on our 2nd (the motor on 1st gave up after about 10 years, maybe longer). No complaints. We use it every day, never lost suction.

Menora · 02/09/2020 20:46

I got a vax pick up pet because it was so much cheaper, lighter and smaller than the other corded cylinder hoovers and I honestly couldn’t justify spending £200 on a vacuum that maybe was rubbish anyway. I didn’t want an upright either as my DC are petite teens and would 100% complain about it for sure.

Corded are stronger than non corded for a start.
I have to say that as long as you change the cylinder fairly regularly and wash the filters (cos they smell of dog after a while) mine is getting more hair up than I thought it would and a quick clean out brings back all the suction. I really thought it a bargain for £60!

SweatyBetty20 · 02/09/2020 20:50

I don’t have one, but a mate works as a housekeeper for the Royal Household (and therefore does a shit load of vacuuming!) and said a Shark upright every single time.

Pixxie7 · 02/09/2020 20:52

Swear by my Henry.

LadySlipper · 02/09/2020 20:52

I second what SavoyCabbage said. We have a Miele cat dog which is at least 14 years old and it is still amazing. Bits are falling off it due to my own carelessness but it can still lift the carpet off the floor!

Goldistheanswer · 02/09/2020 20:56

We gave up on the Shark vacuum. It simply couldn’t cope with dog hair! Now gone back to our beloved Sebo and it’s a joy to vacuum again! It’s the upright model rather than a cylinder type but I can really recommend them. They last for years.

1Morewineplease · 02/09/2020 20:58

Miele for us ( constantly shedding Golden Retriever.)

Othering · 02/09/2020 21:01

Agree. It pulls the carpet clean up on the highest setting.
Hyperion100 · 02/09/2020 21:04

EU put limits on power consumption so we dont destroy the planet quite so quickly.

Tidypidy · 02/09/2020 21:04

Got so fed up with our Dyson getting blocked we bought a Hetty. Was cheaper than a Henry but exactly the same features. It's AMAZING!!!!!

Laiste · 02/09/2020 21:05

Henry.

OK so he rolls about dramatically sometimes but a Henry (without the bag - just bang out the filter weekly) is the strongest suck you'll ever get ! Grin

There's a reason they're what's used in schools and offices.

Laiste · 02/09/2020 21:06

AND my last Henry lived for nearly 20 years and two house renovations.

Maverick66 · 02/09/2020 21:07

My 10 year old Henry is brilliant but I used my friends new Henry and the power in it is useless.

stovetopespresso · 02/09/2020 21:08

another vote for the cat n dog miele, its heavy though!

pinkbalconyrailing · 02/09/2020 21:13

dysons are absolute shit (at least the ones I had).
miele cat&dog is very good indeed. if you like lighter bosch do an eco one which is small and light and sucks like a big one

LoeliaPonsonby · 02/09/2020 21:17

Try a commercial vacuum, such as Nilfisk.

wizzbangfizz · 02/09/2020 21:18

I recently got the shark anti hair one and it's better than my piece of shit dyson but it's heavy and clunky and has a chord Sad

ListeningQuietly · 02/09/2020 21:20

Sebo

the old inefficient engines just wasted your electricity bill
the new ones do the same job for less money
